Quantitative research is a formal, objective,
systematic process in which numerical data are
used to obtain information about the world.
This research method is used: to describe
variables; to examine relationships among
variables; to determine cause-and-effect
interactions between variables.
To survey means ,” to look at or
examine”.
It involve “an observation or an
overview”.
A nurse researcher might use a
survey to gather data on the health
need of patient , their perception of
the nursing care or their attitude
toward a phenomenon.
• Examine if variables related to each
other,
• Qualified the strength or relationship
between variable (no t cause & effect)
• +ve or –ve direction relationship is
determined
A correlational study to assess the
relationship between stress and coping
behaviour seen among patients with
myocardial infection in selection hospital,
Bangalore.
• Literally means ‘from after the fact’;
• Data are collected “after the fact”,
i.e examine the effect and look back
in time to determine the cause (
Dietary habits and Hypertension )
Ex-post facto research prospective
studies start with a determination of
a ‘cause‘ and then look forward in
time to determine the ‘effect’ ( post
traumatic stress disorders among
tsunami survivors).
It examine the differences between
two groups on some dependent
variables of interest.
A comparative study of dietary
practices of anaemic and non
anaemic adolescent girls of selected
colleges.
• It is descriptive,
• It study with pre-existing criteria is
the sounder study.
How effective is the workshop in
teaching nursing personnel to deal
with life skill education of student
nurses.
They are concerned with the
development ,testing and evaluation
of research instruments and
methods.
Development of a tool to assess the
quality of life of patients with pain
due to advanced cancer and evaluate
the outcome of palliative care in
terms of quality of life.
