  1. 1. TOPIC – COMPARING QUANTITIES M.MUTHUSHREE
  2. 2. oIN OUR DAILY LIVES,WE ARE FREQUENTLY ASKED TO COMPARE TWO QUANTITIES. THEY MIGHT BE HEIGHTS,WEIGHTS,WAGES,GR ADES,AND SO ON…..
  3. 3. TO COMPARE TWO QUANTITIES,THEY MUST HAVE THE SAME UNITS . FOR EXAMPLE:- WHEN COMPARING THE HEIGHTS OF TWO PEOPLE WHO ARE OF 150 CM AND 75CM TALL,WE USE RATIO TO REPRESENT.TO REPRESENT THE ABOVE EXAMPLE IN RATIO-150:75
  4. 4. RATIO:- A RATIO IS A MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSION THAT COMPARES TWO QUANTITIES USING A SPECIFIC PROCEDUER. FOR EXAMPLE:- Q-FIND THE RATIO OF 3Km TO 300 SOLUTION- 3Km=3x1000m =3000m THUS,THE REQUIRED RATIO,3Km:300m IS 3000:300=10:1
  5. 5. EQUIVALENT RATIOS:- Equivalent ratios are those that can be simplified or reduced to the same value. Two ratios are considered equivalent if one can be expressed as a multiple of the other. Some examples of equivalent ratios are 1:2 and 4:8, 3:5 and 12:20, 9:4 and 18:8, etc.
  6. 6. Example : Find two equivalent ratios of 10:11. Solution: To write the equivalent ratios of a given ratio, we can multiply the terms by any natural number starting from 2. We can divide as well if the terms are not co-prime numbers . Here 10 and 11 are co-primes, so let us multiply them by 2 and 3 to find their equivalents. 10:11 = (10×2):(11×2) = 20:22 10:11 = (10×3):(11×3) = 30:33 Therefore, 20:22 and 30:33 are the two equivalent ratios of 10:11.
  7. 7. PERCENTAGE:- In mathematics, a percentage is a number or ratio that can be expressed as a fraction of 100. If we have to calculate percent of a number, divide the number by whole and multiply by 100. Hence, the percentage means, a part per hundred. The word per cent means per 100. It represented by the symbol “%”. Examples of percentages are: 10% is equal to 1/10 fraction 20% is equivalent to ⅕ fraction
  8. 8. Eample Q calclate 10 of 80 solution let 10 of 80=X 10/100 80=X X=8
  9. 9. Question 1. what is the value of percentage 2. How equivalent ratio are formed 3. Fin the ratio of 2 hours to 12 hours 4.Are the two ratio 30;50 and 50/75 are equivalent
  10. 10. Answer 1. 1/100 2. To find an equivalent ratios, multiply or divide both the quantites by the same number . 3. 2;12= 1;6 4. a.30/50=3/5 b. 50/75=10/15=2/3
