  1. 1. Introduction to Git and Github
  2. 2. AGENDA What is Version control ? What is GIT ? What is GitHub ? Primary Commands
  3. 3. WHAT IS VERSION CONTROL ? ➔ Version control is a system that records changes to a file or set of files over time so that you can recall specific versions later.
  4. 4. Centralized VCS ➔ A central server repository (repo) holds the "official copy" of the code ➔ The server maintains the sole version history of the repositories. ➔ Subversion, CVS, Perforce, etc.
  5. 5. Distributed VCS (Git) ● You "clone" it and "pull" changes from it ● Your local repo is a complete copy of everything on the remote server ● When you're ready, you can "push" changes back to server ● git, mercurial, etc.
  6. 6. WHAT IS GIT ? ➔ Git is a version control system(VCS) for developers. ➔ Git is installed and maintained on your local systems. ➔ One thing that really sets Git apart as its branching model.
  7. 7. WHAT IS GITHUB? ➔ GitHub makes it easier to collaborate using git.hosting service ➔ It’s a platform that can hold repositories of code in cloud-based storage so that multiple developers can work on a single project and see each others’ edits in real time.
  8. 8. PRIMARY COMMANDS git add . git commit -m “X” git push git pull git branch
