  4. 4 Current status of Bangladesh  Bangladesh is still a low-income developing country.  At least 20% people are living below poverty line.  78% of the labour force are engaged in low productivity, low income jobs with around 44% in agriculture.  Collection of tax revenue is very poor.  Risk of environment and climate change  Access to secondary & tertiary education is limited.  Quality of education at all levels is poor.  The poor are severely disadvantaged.
  5. 5 RESOURCEFUL SECTORS/AREAS OF BANGLADESH Geo-political location, Human resources, Education, Agro processing industry, Renewable Energy- Solar power, Wind power, Tidal Wave, Biogas, Geothermal Energy, Electronics and electronic assembly, Air Transportation, Ship Building Industry, Ceramics, Pharmaceuticals, Computer Software Development, Data Entry and Data Processing and off course Tourism.
  6. 6 TOURISM IN BANGLADESH: KEY FACTS OF 2020 (WTTC) GDP: TOTAL CONTRIBUTION The total contribution of Travel & Tourism was 1.7% of GDP in 2020 (2.7% in2019), and is forecast to rise by 6.8% pa and will be 4.6% of GDP in 2028. EMPLOYMENT: TOTAL CONTRIBUTION In 2020, the total contribution of Travel & Tourism was 2.3 % (2.9% in 2019) of total employment. This is expected to rise by 2.7% pa and will be 4.2% of total jobs in 2028. VISITOR EXPORTS Visitors spent 0.3% (BDT 12.2bn) of total exports in 2020 (0.8% in 2019) and is expected to grow by 6.2% pa and in 2028 total exports will be BDT 35.8 bn. INVESTMENT Travel & Tourism investment in 2017 was 1.4% of total investment. It should rise by 6.1% pa over the next ten years and will be 1.5% of total in 2028.
