An report from the fields of Nepal where local farmers and cooperatives grown herbs and tea organically, providing ecologically friendly jobs, and the key ingredients for Sherpa Power Tea
2. In April the Sherpa Power team flew to Nepal to
check in with our partner farmers, and see the
progress of our Healing Herbs Nepal Program, which
provides the tea and super-herbs used in Sherpa
Power. Subsequently, we were on the ground with
the farmers when the earthquake struck Nepal. While
this event was extremely devastating for the country
of Nepal, and some of our partners experienced loss
or damage to their housing, we are very happy to
report that our entire team and all of our partner
farmers are alive and well.
3. The severity of the quake reminded us just how vulnerable our friends
in Nepal are and has reinforced our passion and determination to
support them with desperately needed economic opportunity.
4. As life slowly gets back to normal in the village, we are
excited to update you on all of the uplifting progress
currently underway.
5. Womenโs for Human Rights (WHR)
In our last update we informed you about our newly formed partnership with
WHR. We are happy to report that they have been busy planting yacon
tubers that will be processed into syrup and brought to the US for retail sale.
6. We rolled up our sleeves and helped out - such
a fun and fulfilling day!
7. Yacon is a low-glycemic, low calorie, prebiotic sweetener that
fosters healthy probiotic growth. While yacon has been gaining
popularity in Europe, it is just starting to catch on in the US and
we are very excited to help bring this healthy sweetener to you.
8. Profit sharing from yacon
sales will help WHR
provide widows and
single mothers with
technical training,
educational scholarships,
and meeting space where
women can go to have
social and emotional
support in their time of
need.
10. KTE is the source of the organic
premium whole-leaf green and
black tea that makes Sherpa
Power so delicious.
KTE is the first certified organic tea
estate in Nepal, and has never
sprayed pesticides on their soil,
which has created some of the
purest and most fertile soil in
Nepal.
Mount Kanchenjunga is the 3rd
highest in the world and borders
the Darjeeling area of India. KTE is
just across the border and shares
the ideal conditions for growing tea
for which Darjeeling is famous.
11. Equally important, KTE
requires that all farmers send
their daughters to school,
provides educational
scholarships, has a
community cow program to
ensure all farmers have
access to fresh milk, while
25% of their work force is
comprised of the most
marginalized caste in Nepal.
We are very proud to partner
with KTE to support these
efforts and bring you some of
the highest quality tea you
will ever taste.
13. Thank you for your continued interest and support of
Sherpa Power and, through Sherpa Power, the
Healing Herbs Nepal program. Now more than ever
the people of Nepal need the support of our
partnership. We remain dedicated to improving the
livelihoods of farmers in rural Nepal.
Until then, Namaste.
