• They were both from the House of
Trastamara and were second cousins, being
both descended from John I of Castile.
• They were given a papal dispensation to
deal with consanguinity by Sixtus IV.
• The title of “Catholic King and Queen” was
bestowed on them by the Pope Alexander
VI in 1496.

on September 13 1598.
• He was the king of Spain.
• He was the lord of the seventeen Provinces
from 1556 until 1581.

• Queen Isabella struggled with the decision
on either to let the conquistadors bring
over slaves and sell them off.
• Spain was bringing over new things over to
Americas.
• Queen Isabella didnt believe in Slaves, but
had them in her own home.

• The main thing that was brought over from
Europe was their religion.
• Spaniards adopted La Virgen de Guadalupe
to their religion since it was an important
icon in the culture of the Natives and
would allow them to continue to worship
her.
• To maintain the Spaniard’s wealth, power,
and identity in the New World, the Spanish
created a caste-like system
