Sweet revenge feedback analysis
1. What Sex Are You?
My demographics showed
that I aimed my short film
Male at female: male, 60:40, so I
30%
aimed to ask more women
Female to men when handing out
the questionnaire.

I didn’t ask any people 6
under the age of 15 5
because according to the 4
age certificate

guidelines, ‘sweet revenge’
is a certificate 15 in the UK. 2

I asked quite a few Caucasian people because their ethnicity was that of my
target audience, so I wanted to see if it interested them. However, I still asked
some people who weren’t my target audience so that I could see if my
hypothesis of other cultures disagreeing with the sexual nature of ‘sweet
revenge’ was correct.
3. Did You Enjoy 'sweet revenge'? I was so pleased to see that the majority of those I
asked said they enjoyed ‘sweet revenge’. It was
actually quite surprising because I knew that I had
touched on some sensitive subjects (i.e. rape) and
20 so I though that this would influence peoples
opinions of the film.
15
The one person who said they didn’t fully enjoy
10 ‘sweet revenge’ said it was because ‘it was too
frightening for her likes’ as she’s easily influenced
5 by films. However, the rest said that it was a
‘reality check that I needed’, ‘it was perfectly
0 composed’ and ‘it was unexpected for it to be so
Yes No great!’.
What Genre Is 'sweet revenge'?
On my questionnaire, this was an open
question and the genres on the right were 20% 25%
the ones that were mentioned. Thriller
Horror
I’m glad that people understood the style I 5%
was going for, as Film Noir is considered (by Crime
50%
some) as a mixture of Crime and Detective Film Noir
films and most said that it reflected a Crime
film and many noticed that it was in the
style of Film Noir.
4. Did You Like The Narrative?
Most people said they liked my narrative because it
was ‘original’, ‘it spoke for many girls who have
been through the same taunts’ and ‘raised an
5 awareness that many are afraid to pinpoint’.
4 Those who didn’t like it mentioned almost the same
reasons, that it ‘focused on taboo topics’ and
3 ‘makes a person scared to pop out an get
milk’, however, this doesn’t upset me because it
2 means that the messages and the feelings that I
1 was attempting to emit to my audience through the
narrative had done their job perfectly because
0 people have clearly been affected by it.
Yes No
Were The Locations Suited To The
Narrative?
Everyone thought that the locations
20
‘were perfectly matched to the story
line’. Many said this was because ‘they 15
were common places where you would 10
suspect acts like these would take
place’ which was the exact reason why I 5
chose these locations. 0
Yes No
5. Did 'sweet revenge' Come Across Everyone commented on how they thought it
looked like an actual film that had millions
As Professional? funded into it, this took me by shock as the film
cost almost nothing to make. Many mentioned
how ‘the camera angles used were incredible’
20 and quite a few people asked me how I filmed
certain shots, how long it took me and if I had
15 done it all on my own.
10
In the screen showing that I did, everyone who
5 saw it agreed that they loved the CCTV footage
0 and kept asking me how I got up so high.
Yes No
Was There Anything That You Disliked
It was satisfying knowing that I had created
In The Film?
a film that pleased so many people.
The two, who didn’t like it said that it was
due to it’s ‘explicit nature’ and because it
‘wasn’t a style of film that they would
20
necessarily like’. These are very valid 15
reasons for not liking ‘sweet revenge’ and I
can understand that it may affect some 10
more seriously than others, however, these
sorts of narratives are some girls’ actual 5
lives, so I'm not raising anything that is
totally absurd, I'm just raising more
0
awareness to it so that it can be stopped. Yes No
6. Was The Ending What You Almost everyone said they ‘expected Ben to
kill Candy right until the knife came out’.
Suspected? Those who guessed the ending said that
they’d ‘seen quite a few Film Noir films and
expected the female to kill the guy’ and that
20 ‘after seeing that Ben had harassed Candy, it
15 was clear she wanted ‘revenge’ from the film
title’.
10
5 A status switch is what I attempted to
create, Ben starts off with more power as
0 Candy is a victim, however, she reverses the
Yes No role and gains power over Ben.
Was The Editing Successful?
‘The editing was so professional’,
‘Everything was so smooth in the
transitions’, 20
‘There was continuity
throughout, which is hard to get’. 15
These were just some of the comments
10
said about my editing. I did try quite
hard to make sure all sequences ran 5
smoothly and felt like it was all one
rather than something made up of small 0
clips put together. Yes No
7. Did The Soundtrack Sound
Professional?
Hardly any of the people I gave the questionnaire
to could believe that I composed the soundtrack
myself using Einaudi’s ‘In A Time Lapse’.
20
15 One person said that ‘it fit perfectly with the
narrative and actions that were happening’.

Did It Create Suspense?
‘I loved the violins that were used, they
really created a creepy atmosphere!’ 20
I think from the diagram it’s clear to see 15
that my attempt at creating suspense in
10
my soundtrack was a job well done.
5
Someone said that ‘without the
soundtrack the film wouldn’t have it’s 0
eeriness that it grasped so well’.
Yes No
8. Did 'sweet revenge' Emotionally
It was good to see that people were
Touch You? moved by the film and that the films
purpose worked. One female mentioned
the morning after the screening that she
15 ‘couldn’t sleep that night’ she was shaken
so much.
10
Those who said it didn’t touch them said
5 this because their ‘not easily affected by
films’ or that they ‘couldn’t see why it
0 would because it wasn’t realistic enough’.
Yes No
Any Improvements That Could be
Made?
The only flaws commented on were the
‘quality of the camera’ and that ‘one
shot was slightly shaky to start off’. 20
15
I think I succeeded in making a 10
respectable short film in the style of
5
Film Noir.
