BUSINESS
LEAGUE OF SUCCESSFUL
2020
Avalue-driven business as we know is worth millions.
But little do we understand the essence of it, the way it
is operated and the methods through which the process
is carried out can be more complex than just rudimentary
routine work. From the outside, it may give the impression that
the business is going smoothly. Its growth rate may be fast, but
actually, to know the comprehensive activities that involve the
bigger picture is quite a troublesome task. Business in itself is
very dynamic. Its continuous evolution and changing trends
redefine its tendency of operability and compel the business
owner to grow with the changes or go out of the business. The
term, ‘go big or go home’ suitably suggests the emotion of
doing business.
Its adversities make every person who is involved in carrying
out the business’s daily activities, a seasoned professional. One
must be ready to put all of their efforts in order to yield
optimum results in the business, especially when it comes to
profit maximization. That’s how a business grows, with a clear
vision to succeed in all its aspects and the efforts one person
puts into the operations. The efforts that we are talking about
may vary from various perspectives. But the essence of it
remains the same.
In this dynamics of business and success, one factor that has
been a differentiator with all its comprehensive inputs are
women. Women, wherever they may be, whatever timeline,
have been disrupting the business environment from the word.
They have proved themselves in every zone, every array, every
vertical of every industry, that they can bring solutions uniquely
suited to the business requirements.
Celebrating and encouraging the efforts shown by the women in
business, Insights Success with its latest edition - ‘League of
Successful Business Women 2020’, wishes to showcase the
stories of some extraordinary women who are in a league of
their own.

LEAGUE OF SUCCESSFUL
2020
Success Today – A
Dynamic Combination
of Women and Business
First in line with this league is Ann Chapman - Managing
Director and Co-founder of Minesoft, who is providing
leading-edge patenting solutions that can connect to the
target audience efficiently. She is a bibliophile who is fond
of written words and languages. Cara Scharf through her
firm Fearless Media is enabling various digital marketing
services, specializing in entertainment, retail, education,
and technology verticals. It is a full-service, NYC-based
company and Cara while leading it contributes to creating
beautifully integrated solutions and communication across
all media platforms.
Contributing to finding better solutions for the issues related
to inflammation, Dr. Caroline Barelle, CEO of Elasmogen
has been conducting various researches. Her vision for the
future is to build and grow the company in the clinical drug
development process. Also, Diana Williams - Founder and
Managing Director of Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs
believes in a notion of leading the business that provides
class-apart health and wellness experience to its esteemed
members. She proudly leads a team of superstars who are
relentlessly working towards bringing her vision to life. The
cluster includes a name that has significantly contributed to
the growth of McAfee LLC, a device-to-cloud security
company providing many state-of-the-art solutions in both,
enterprise and consumer space. Dr. Celeste Fralick, Chief
Data Scientist and Senior Principal Engineer of the
company, is helping in facilitating positive experience to
customers while enabling leading-edge scientific solutions.
We have also included the story of a result-focused and
dedicated leader, Erna Grasz. Being the Co-founder and
CEO of Asante Africa Foundation, she believes that
education is the way up and out of poverty among other
adversities. With this idea, she has been investing in local
talents and partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability
in business as well as in society.
Preaching a healthy lifestyle while working with nature,
Jeanne Groenewald is following a free-range method of
raising poultry demanded. In this method, chickens, for
some part of the day are allowed to roam outdoors freely
rather than being confined for 24 hours a day. This practice
is really worth a read and Insights Success has brought its
readers the same. Another big name that is motivating a
well-rounded lifestyle with minimizing the wastage of food
through sustainable innovation is Jenny Costa. She is
working as the CEO of Rubies in the Rubble, and her idea
of putting the country’s surplus produce to good use is
really making a difference. The Senior Vice President of
Virgin Galactic, Julia Hunter has also made it to the
league as her relentless efforts to counter the challenge of
human space-flight are truly commendable. It is a constant
motivation and a place of learning for her. Read more about
it in the column.
Living by the principles of survival with a positive attitude,
Margaret Hirsch is an inspiration to many. She has been
setting an example through sheer determination while
leading Hirsch’s Homestores for forty-one years as the
Chief Operations Executive. Do read her fulfilling journey
towards uplifting others to achieve their dreams. Next in
line for the mention in the league is Marina Tognetti. As
the Founder and CEO of mYngle, she is enabling a
marketplace that provides one-to-one teaching of all
languages over the internet. How is she doing it? Well, you
have to give it a read to find that out. Finally, ending this
cluster of exemplary stories, Insights Success is presenting
the tale of Shiela Butch Roxas Dimaculangan. She is an
active Municipal Accountant in the city of San Teodoro,
Oriental Mindoro. She has been serving there for more than
twenty-two years in the same position with passion and
zeal.
So, appreciating and celebrating each and every woman on
this panel, Insights Success urges its readers to help
motivate and recognize the efforts and struggles they have
put into building their respective businesses by reading their
incredible stories.

ANNANNANN
CHAPMAN
A Bibliophile, Creating waves
in the Patenting Vertical'
Patenting is an important
activity to secure intellectual
property and sell goods
abroad. A good patenting solution
every organization needs to exploit
the commercial value of IP and
scientific information throughout the
innovation process. Ann Chapman
is providing such leading-edge
patenting solutions that can connect
to the target audience in a rightful
manner.
Ann is a bibliophile who loves
written words and languages. She is
the Managing Director and
Co-founder of Minesoft who always
finds new ways of crafting innovative
software solutions concerning
patenting requirements.
Dissemination of information and
knowledge is what always inspires
her.
Ann began her career working with
renowned publishing company,
Thomson Reuters (then known as
International Thompson) and was
sent all over the world to visit clients
and secure business. Later, she
moved to another US publishing
company (Ziff Davies Group) in the
field of business information
(companies and markets). After some
time, she returned to patents and Sci-
tech publishing with France Telecom
Group.
After gaining vital experience of the
professional world, she ultimately
took the plunge into the
entrepreneurial world. As a
businessperson, Ann gives special
attention to Marketing, PR and
Finance operations to a great
level. Besides these, she is very
much active in developing the
skill sets and management
team to boost organizational
efficiency and productivity.
Ann Chapman
MD & Co-founder
www.insightssuccess.com10 | March 2020
She gives special credit to her husband
Ophir Daniel, a seasoned professional
for her remarkable success as the MD
of Minesoft.
Ophir drives innovation through
product design, development and IT
infrastructure. He is a genius innovator
who has a new idea every day. He grew
up as an engineer on a kibbutz in
Israel, a big collective farm with
advanced manufacturing facilities.
Rahman Hyatt, Board Director, is
another key person at Minesoft, who
has assisted significantly towards the
growth of Minesoft.
“We also have a highly motivated and
hardworking team that is comprises of
adept professionals. In my opinion, a
company needs a variety of assets for
prolonged success and it is the role of
the leader to enable others to fulfil
their potential too,” asserts Ann.
Minesoft’s Illustrious Offerings and
Remarkable Feats
With leading corporations, patent
offices and law firms among its
customers, Minesoft has come a long
way from its humble beginnings. It has
achieved this without taking on outside
investment but instead in always being
forward thinking in growing the
company’s network and locating new
partners.
Minesoft’s history spans over 20 years
of innovation and development – an
achievement in itself. In 2003,
Minesoft & RWS launched PatBase, a
new searchable database of patent
documents designed by experts in the
complex art of the patent information
research. Since the first critically
acclaimed public demonstrations in
2003, PatBase has gone on to attract
over 70,000 users worldwide.
“Whilst we are probably best known
for PatBase, a professional patent
search and analytics system, we have
clients so far spread that many never
search at all,” stated Ann. “ For
example, legal operations professions
who may be paralegals or the like
require access to clean data but for
entirely different purposes.”
In 2009, Minesoft won the prestigious
Queen’s Award for Enterprise for an
outstanding achievement in rapidly
growing export markets in the field of
Intellectual Property (patent)
information – a tribute to the
international success of PatBase and to
the dedication of the development,
sales and support staff behind it.
Minesoft has expanded its portfolio of
innovative patent information products
to include PatBase Express,
PatentOrder, Patent FamilyPortal,
PatentTracker, Legal StatusTracker,
CiteTracker, Chemical Explorer, Pat-
KM and PatBase Analytics. This
continuous innovation was
instrumental in Minesoft being
awarded the Queen’s Award for
Enterprise for a second time in 2015.
The Award was given for an
impressive, sustained growth in
International Trade, the company
having demonstrated an outstanding
achievement in rapidly growing export
markets in the field of Intellectual
Property (patent) information.
The company has introduced a new
product called PatDocs in late 2018
which provides fully automated patent
family trees, the ability to instantly
create a fully filled in SB-08
information disclosure document
(ready for PTO submission), the ability
to download any number of patent
PDFs (in bulk or individually) within
seconds and the ability to create a
sharable work product between
colleagues or between inside and
outside counsel.
Uniqueness of the Company
Minesoft is a renowned patent solution
provider that has partnered with the
World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO) in the ASPI
programme. It provides researchers in
developing countries free or low-cost
access to sophisticated tools and
services, like PatBase, for retrieving
and analyzing patent data to help drive
innovation worldwide. Minesoft has
been providing industry with reliable
and powerful solutions to access the
technological and scientific
information that is often only available
in patents for the past 20 years.
“We invest a lot of time and effort in
the design and development of exactly
the type of search tools our User Base
requires to handle the multiplicity of
data and sources – based on the
feedback we receive,” added Ann.
“Giving unfettered access to this data
helps to drive innovation worldwide
and make big advances in the scientific
and technological landscapes whether
it's a new pharmaceutical drug or
technology for electric vehicles…
building on these ideas can change the
world for the better,” stated Ann.
Future Endeavour
Minesoft is working on developing a
new search engine that should be
released later this year. Moreover, the
company is ready to develop some neat
new functionality in areas like natural
language searching and semantics.
“We will also develop the area of
automated translations and
landscaping analysis. In the coming 10
years, Ophir and I will continue to
travel widely to learn about our globe
and help develop new technologies for
the future,” concluded Ann.
“Nothing is static and embracing change is an advantage in business
life but keeping focus on the bigger picture helps me personally”

CARA SCHARFBuilding Spectacular Marketing Campaigns
igital Media has opened up avenues for marketing
Dtoday, like never before. For any company, the
prospective clients are just a click away. To
compel digital media users to choose or click for one’s
services, a company needs media campaigns which are
attention-grabbing and unmissable.
Cara Scharf led Fearless Media is doing just that and
more. Fearless Media is a full-service, NYC-based digital
marketing agency, specializing in the entertainment, retail,
education, and technology verticals. It creates beautifully
integrated solutions and communication across all media
and helps companies develop marketing strategies, execute
campaigns, and drive revenue. The company believes that
every element of a campaign is vital and informs each next
element, which is why its approach is always integrated.
A Leap of Faith
Comfort-zone is a beautiful thing. It keeps you happy in
your own little space, where you can bask in the
achievements of your world. However, it makes you too
comfortable to explore your own strengths. You never know
what you are capable of doing if you don’t give it a try.
Cara, until the year 2009, worked as Executive Vice
President at an agency where she successfully led the
agency’s growth and business development, by boosting the
company’s revenue from 10 million to 50 million USD.
For someone like her, who thrives in challenges, the sense
of comfort soon became overbearing. She says, “I’d risen
to the highest level I could with that firm, but I found myself
feeling unsatisfied and unhappy. When my former employer
asked me to climb to get a paperclip, that was when I knew.
It was time. Leaving was a huge decision, but a quick one. I
knew I had to be my own boss so I would never feel taken
advantage of again.”
Cara’s years of experience and motivated persona resulted
in the establishment of Fearless Media. After taking the
huge decision of starting on her own, she was now faced
with everyday decision-making to keep her new company at
the top of the charts.
The initial two years got her working on all aspects which
were tiring and gratifying at the same time. Cara soon
became a successful and renowned businesswoman.

Fearless Solutions
Under Cara’s tutelage, team Fearless Media has developed
a proven combination of strategy, planning, and overall
innovation which enables its clients to be Fearless. The
company creates powerful integrated solutions and
communication across all media for the client company. It
can build and develop marketing strategies, execute
campaigns, and drive revenue to bring the company to the
front lines of its respective industry. Everything at Fearless
Media begins with ‘digital’ at its core. Its proprietary,
customized analytic dashboard gives the client's brand
management team the exact data they need to make
informed decisions.
Its core competencies include Strategic Planning and
Buying, Programmatic Buying, Co-Marketing Strategic
Alliances, In-Depth Analytics, and Traditional Media. We
also work in the core demographic of the 18-34 yr. audience
and we know how to reach them. We have a vast
understanding of the esports, videogame and consumer
electronics categories.
People Matter
As a valued leader, Cara believes that success in business
depends heavily on the kind of people you hire. She states,
“You need to hire skills for today and aptitude for
tomorrow. It’s crucial to hire smarter people than yourself.”
Every year the bar is raised for an ad agency, which means
your hiring needs are even more important. It is imperative
that you have the right skillsets and adjust your staffing as
needed based on where you see the market heading. At the
same time, as a woman, she feels that woman
empowerment shouldn’t be talked-about but worked-on.
The need for diversity, not only in the marketing and
advertising industry but across all industries is irrefutable.
Citing her own example, Cara states, “I think people take
for granted how driven you need to be to run your own
company. They typically reserve that ‘drive’for a man and
resent when women are tigers. You don’t need confidence to
start, you need guts. The confidence comes with knowing
you have been able to beat all the odds. Only 0.1% of the
founders in advertising are female. That is what I think
about, if I ever start to doubt my abilities. I am still here 10
years later, and I keep learning every day.”
Driving Digital Experiences
For a decade, Cara and her team have been building and
delivering compelling digital marketing experiences. They
have been creating personalized experiences which engage
and convert client's customers in memorable and enticing
ways across all platforms. They have been combining
storytelling with data-proven insights to create social media
messaging that’s not just compelling, but also profitable.
Going forward, Fearless Media will continue to unify
media, creative, and buying strategies to create
omnichannel campaigns that will increase reach, awareness,
engagement and retention.

Caroline
Barelle
any times people suffer from some self-
Mgenerated disease which might lead to some
serious health issues. Inflammation is one such
self-generated defense mechanism that still remains one of
the untouched medical conditions. Inflammation generally
occurs as a self-defense mechanism in response to some
foreign body or an injury. But, quite often this can result in
unnecessary rapid reactions by bodily organs. This
sometimes leads to serious health problems and in extreme
cases, can be fatal.
With various researches being conducted to find a better
solution for the issues faced due to inflammation, very few
have managed to contribute to it. One such personality is
Dr. Caroline Barelle, CEO of Elasmogen. Elasmogen is in
the process of next-generation soloMER products. These
products will be helpful for the sight-saving treatment of
inflammatory diseases of the eyes and inflammatory
conditions of the gut.
Caroline is a graduate in biochemistry from the University
of Aberdeen. She has completed her Ph.D. in biochemistry
and later chose to develop her business skills by completing
an MBA. Currently, as a CEO, Caroline plays a significant
role at Elasmogen. She handles all the aspects of the
company from securing investments and making strategic
decisions about the direction of the business to overseeing
the science programs.
Overcoming the Challenges
Like any other entrepreneur, Caroline’s initial journey with
Elasmogen was quite difficult. The biggest challenge she
faced was to start a biotech company and to secure money
for it. As a biotech startup, the main focus was on setting up
a lab and negotiating the shareholding structure along with
employing the correct team.
Caroline says, “Every activity was one that I had never
done before so it was all new and much of it such as the
legal and accountancy activities were conducted in a totally
different language from scientific speak!”
The major issue emerged when the company was
established. Caroline and her team had to continuously
maintain and secure the investments. Apart from the
investments, she had to maximize productivity and achieve
the desired goal in the world of therapeutic drug
development.
Having done her studies in biochemistry, Caroline always
wanted to contribute her career in drug discovery and
development. From this, she gets the motivation to run a
biotech firm so that it will benefit numerous human lives in
the coming years. This will also create opportunities for
scientists to develop their skills and prove and share the
success for better drug delivery.
According to Caroline, the greatest achievement to date is
that she was courageous enough to set up a new biotech
company. She not only started a company but, also helped
it reach a level through these seven years. She adds, “I also
take great pride in being able to provide jobs for fantastic
people who are the most important asset - we work hard
but also make time to enjoy what we do.”
Novel Drug Discovery
As Elasmogen has just started its journey, it aims to provide
novel drugs to the world. The journey of these proposed
medicines has to reach out to patients who are in absolute
need. Caroline, with her scientists, designs and develops
such novel drugs.
Currently, the company is focused on developing types of
drugs which are antibody-like. These drugs are named as
soloMERs. The market today is dominated by such
antibody-based drugs and these drugs by Elasmogen will
prove helpful in changing patient’s lives.

“
“
Elasmogen’s core products are for the treatment of
inflammatory, auto-immune disease and cancer. The
development of drugs changes with time. With the
advancement in technology, learning, refining and
improvement of research and development occur. This is
helping Elasmogen to develop the next generation of
biologic drugs to improve clinical outcomes.
Growing with Others
An entrepreneur has plenty of responsibilities when it
comes to managing a company and its team. Caroline gets
her inspiration from the people she is surrounded by. She
believes that one should surround themselves by the people
who create positivity and help one grow. It is of utmost
importance to interact with people who have gone through a
similar journey that one wants to follow.
Caroline mentions, “And finally in the words of Grace
Hopper ‘it’s better to seek forgiveness than permission’
– essentially just go for it!”
Apart from the supporting system, one needs to be
innovative. Caroline adds, “Innovation is at the core of
what we do and so provided it is adding value to the
company and indeed the potential to be a life-changing
drug then letting the team be curious and creative is easy as
those are inherent characteristics of a good research
scientist.”
Further, Caroline wants a future with a vision to build and
grow the company in the clinical drug development
process. She wants to bring her first product to the market
and enter clinical trials followed by a robust pipeline of
next stage products.
www.insightssuccess.com18 | March 2020
An entrepreneurial spirit is innately nurtured and
developed through continuous self-development
along with simultaneous growth in the business.
With calculated risks and a sprinkle of faith, most
challenges can be addressed actively. Putting yourself out
there and believing in yourself is the key to understanding
how the business can be moved forward with a zeal to
achieve success. At first, some of the ideas may be flawed
but surrounding yourself with people who are practical and
resourceful can help in measuring risks and a well-thought
plan along with its contingencies can help scale business to
new heights.
Diana Williams, Founder and Managing Director of
Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs believes in a similar
notion and is leading a business, that provides a class-apart
health and wellness experience to its esteemed members.
The journey of Fernwood Fitness began thirty-one years
ago in Bendigo, Central Victoria. One humble gym
blossomed into an Australia-wide franchise business,
exclusively for women.
She feels fortunate to lead a team of superstars who
continuously work towards bringing her vision to life.
“Together we pioneer new offerings to ensure our members
always experience a holistic health, fitness and wellness
experience,” says Diana.
Fernwood Fitness and its network of holistic women’s
health clubs offer a wide range of fitness, well-being
services, and programs. It includes strength training, HIIT
training, personal training, yoga, reformer Pilates, group
fitness, food coaching, meditation and wellness programs,
and childcare services.
While facilitating new trends in fitness and health, Diana
has been awarded many accolades and recognition over the
years. A few include being inducted into the Fitness
Industry Hall of Fame, the Australian Businesswomen’s
Hall of Fame, The Franchising Hall of Fame and the
Bendigo Business Hall of Fame. She has also been awarded
the Australian National Telstra Business Woman of the
Year, the National Franchising Woman of the Year, and
BRW Top 10 fastest growing companies three years in a
row.
Being recognized through awards is a fantastic way to
catalog success and progression. For Diana, the main
accomplishments are not the awards and accolades so much
as hearing about women changing their lives for the better,
in whichever they see fit, importantly through Fernwood.
Diana’s Dynamics

of their roles and are proud of their
achievements,” shares Diana. Her role in the
business is to ensure that the new enthusiastic
and ambitious members of the team are
welcomed graciously and that their growth
and potential is fostered by a conducive
workspace. A positive and thriving culture is
paramount to getting the job done well.
According to her, one of the challenges of
being an entrepreneur is taking the time to
analyze and problem-solve new concepts. The
entrepreneurial tendency is towards positivity
and being risk-aware without seriously
considering the idea of failure.
The fitness and wellness industry, much like
most other industries, is constantly evolving
and shifting to meet the ever-changing needs
and demands of the consumer. “I have never
been content with resting on my laurels,”
states Diana. Innovation is key to being
successful in business. Diana feels to be at the
peak of growth in her business when she lets
her creativity and ideas flow freely.
“The thing that motivates me is seeing how far
the business has come from its humble
beginning and how much further it has to
grow to reach its full potential,” states Diana.
She derives happiness and can’t help but feel
proud when she hears someone say, they own
or attend a Fernwood facility. It’s a refreshing
reminder that the business has grown,
nurtured, and is making a positive impact in
other people’s lives. It’s extremely rewarding
and highly motivating to keep building the
business.
Beyond 2020...
Moving forward to the future, Fernwood will continue to roll out new women’s wellness programs. Through the partnership
with Deakin University’s Food & Mood Centre, Diana and her team have created a series of programs to help women to find
balance and calm in this constantly chaotic world. The club’s Empower program, in particular, has been designed to equip
women with the tools to reduce stress and burnout, boost confidence and self-care while increasing overall health and
happiness.
“Ideas simply remain idle unless you have the ambition and support of a proficient and passionate team to support and
nurture that dream until it reaches the finish line,” describes Diana. Being a successful entrepreneur also relies on knowing
when to place an idea on the shelf. Like a good bottle of red wine, some ideas take time to reach their full potential and
should only be uncorked at the opportune time.

ong before Data became the gold that it is today,
Lthere were people who were trying to mine it,
process it and transform it into comprehensible
content. It is their intense focus that the omnipresent data
today is being utilized to develop solutions in almost every
industry.
Dr. Celeste Fralick, Chief Data Scientist and Senior
Principal Engineer, McAfee, is surely one of them. Her 40
years of professional journey began as a Quality &
Reliability (Q&R) Engineer at Texas Instruments. Her first
assignment was to develop statistical process control (SPC)
where she became enamored with statistics and data.
Additional Q&R positions at Fairchild Semiconductor and
Medtronic continued to fuel her data-science on-the-job
training. She then joined Intel, and stayed with the spin-out,
McAfee, where she works today as Chief Data Scientist and
Senior Principal Engineer.
McAfee LLC is a device-to-cloud security company that
provides many state-of-the-art solutions in both enterprise
and consumer segments. Our products can be mixed-and-
matched to provide the right solution to any customer. With
over a billion sensors across multiple threat vectors around
the world there’s a LOT of data to move and analyze in
milliseconds.
Read on as Dr. Celeste Fralick speaks her mind and heart
out on matters that are close to her.
• How do you keep yourself motivated? Please tell us
about what inspires you and who do you look up to.
I am most impressed with our leadership team, including
our CTO (Steve Grobman), and VP of Enterprise
Engineering (Lynda Grindstaff) who were long-time Intel
employees – it is not trite to say I followed them to
McAfee! I was able to hire a wicked smart team that
inspires me daily, and I am surrounded by techies who
want to catch the bad guy and seamlessly protect us. It is a
very mission-oriented market – like medical, where people
feel driven to help and serve, and the air is electric with
their passion. I keep myself motivated by learning daily
from each of them.

There have been many! Being selected by Forbes in 2018
as one of the America’s Top 50 Women in Tech, presenting
the keynote with McAfee CTO Steve Grobman at the 2019
RSA conference, creating a medical product group at Intel,
leading a 150-member company technical engineering
committee, and changing the culture for data and women
at each company – well, every instance was incredibly
memorable. As a lower-middle class kid from small-town
Alaska, I consider myself quite lucky, but I have worked
very hard to earn my stripes.
My toughest challenge was realizing I was blind to a
particular leadership pillar (“enabling others to act” per
the book “The Leadership Challenge” by Kouzes and
Posner) that was limiting my success. You can’t fix what
you don’t know is wrong. It was very difficult but,
following my projects and “awakening”, I was not only
awarded the “most improved” trophy but my projects were
so successful, I was promoted shortly thereafter.

name just a few. Our translational research in security
analytics as well as the creation of an Analytic Center of
Excellence enable our products to be innovative with a
minimum of false positives and false negatives. I’d like to
think we have enabled McAfee to be a data-driven
company with industry-best security analytics, and it is
reflected in our industry recognized high ratings.
• How do you ensure that there’s a healthy culture at the
work space?
As a Stage 4 breast cancer patient, I emphasize to anyone
who will listen to get a mammogram. It saved my life, as
does the every-three-week chemo that I endure to stay
alive. While I am in remission (nearly five years), the
constant chemo does wear me out and I have unique side
effects that are often debilitating. So, health comes first.
No stress, no negativity – stay happy, stay healthy. Enjoy
your work, live every day like it’s your last. I try to ensure
that everyone I connect with – even though I work virtual
– feels the same way.
• What would you advise to the budding and aspiring
entrepreneurs?
Never, EVER, believe anyone when they tell you that you
can’t do something. Stay tenacious and focused, go after
what you want. If you’ve failed, pull up your big-girl
pants and go after it again.
• What are the most important lessons you’ve learned
throughout your career and would like to share?
Build your career on your strengths, not weaknesses.
Lead - don’t manage: inspire, challenge, listen, encourage,
and model the behaviour you expect. Don’t stop thinking
your crazy ideas – just implement them. Be a duck – let
the rain roll off your back, stay calm, but paddle like crazy
to get to where you need to go. Don’t get your knickers
twisted – there are more important things in life. Keep
your body and mind healthy. And, for goodness sakes,
enjoy the journey.
The Journey in a Nutshell
Dr. Fralick found herself engrossed with all things
statistical as soon as she began her career. She considers
herself fortunate to learn from the best (like the late Dr.
Joseph Juran); however, in 1992 she became restless to
formally learn. She began an MS in Biomedical
Engineering, focused on statistics, Design of Experiments,
and bioelectricity while still working full-time and raising
two young boys.
She recalls her Intel interview as a ‘why-not?’, winging-it,
unplanned interview. She was able to influence a much
larger company while she finished her Biomedical
Engineering Ph.D. focused on neuroscience, statistics, and
neural networks (NN), a technology which had suffered a
bad reputation for years but has become incredibly
fashionable. Dr. Fralick was fortunate to be on the leading
edge of their comeback and transfer her academic learning
to her daily work. At MacAfee, her role is to provide
company-wide data strategy as well as lead the McAfee
Advanced Analytics Team to translate research of state-of-
the-art security analytics into products.

one are the days when women were stereotyped to
a certain set of skills and professions, restricting
them from exploring the world of endless
opportunities. Today, women have announced their arrival
in many fields of the business world. Therefore, it seems
more important than ever before to recognize female
contributions in every profession.
Fighting through biased work culture in favour of male
dominance, women have conquered the unconquered on the
account of their distinct calibre and predilections. In the
times when the world female participation rate is to the
dispiriting levels of around 67% and pay-off rate of about
63%, achievements by women go-getters are praiseworthy.
Listening capabilities is one of the
distinguishing aspects of feminine species as compared to
their male counterparts. Instilling and pursuing ones
thoughts is undoubtedly important for effective working.
But being a better listener is something that can make a
difference as studies show that the customer values and
trusts the firms if they perceive that they are being listened
to by the firms. With inherent caring and affectionate traits,
women outclass men when it comes to understanding
critical demands of the customers.
Emotional Intelligence (EI) - the ability to identify and
manage one’s own emotions as well as the emotions of
others - is an essential skill when it comes to dealing with a
diverse class of consumers. Women are naturally gifted
with higher EI making them better suited for pressure
situations and avoiding counter-productive decisions while
keeping emotions in check.
Emotional Intelligence encompasses two major dimensions
– awareness of one’s self and awareness of others. Both the
attributes are very much significant for the survival and
success of any organisation. Self-awareness involves being
familiar with trigger points and behavioural traits when put
to the test. This, in turn, helps to modulate impulses
avoiding conclusions which are harmful for the welfare of
business. In addition to self-awareness, an awareness of
others is equally critical in business. Analysing and
decoding non-verbal communication – that amounts to 93%
of the message – eventually benefits in convincing and
converting a lead into a client.
Collaboration, and not the cutthroat competition, is the
modern era’s principle virtue to achieve success. Many
endeavours which seem to be beyond the bounds of
possibility can be attained by combining efforts from
different resources, channels and departments. Further,
collaborating products with consumer experience are
enormously important. It leads to crafting the best solutions
for customer’s pain points and compelling value
propositions that reflect their overall business objectives.
Multiple studies have found that women prefer to work in
teams, while men prefer to work alone. An unfaltering
affinity towards collaboration primes women to garner
success in different fields of business which gives them an
edge over others.
Increased profitability can be a motivating factor for many
firms to hire more pool of female talents as many studies
support the fact. Statistical research shows that Fortune 500
companies with the highest representation of women on
boards financially outperform companies with the lowest
representation of women on boards. Moreover, gender-
diverse teams have higher sales and profits compared to
male-dominated teams, and a recent Gallup study found
that gender-diverse business units have higher average
revenue than less diverse business units.
Trust over female leaders is an attribute which needs to be
reciprocated while making the choice. More American
workers perceive female executives as honest and ethical
than male executives. Pew’s “Women and Leadership”
surveyed Americans in 2015 and found that 34% say
women are better at this, while only 3% say men are better
at it (64% say there’s no difference).
While it’s unclear whether this means women are actually
more honest, it’s a subtle reminder of how tangled some
business decisions can be. Leaders are often tasked with
choosing between options that aren’t black and white,
ethically speaking, and the capacity to lead honestly is
important to the entire company’s success and job
satisfaction.
Not to mention, increased job satisfaction and
organizational dedication to cite positive and meaningful
business culture are the added advantages feminine
employees carry to the organisation.
However, the journey is not all merry go round every time.
Hindrances – seen, unseen – are there to check the
unrelenting zeal of women aspirants to thrive in the
industry. These obstructions need to be pointed out and
rectified to create an environment that fuels women
empowerment.
Women Empower
27 | March 2020www.insightssuccess.com
Lack of confidence, according to many experts, is one
prime reason women tend to question themselves and doubt
their worthiness. In order to advance, they must coach their
inner critics.
Out-speak and define what women want professionally if
they want to get succeeded. Too often they don’t know or
rely upon others to define it for them.
“Building relationships with those in positions of
leadership is critical,” Susan Brady, executive vice
president of Linkage Inc. says. “Put down the to-do list long
enough to connect with decision makers across the
organization, and help them understand who you are and
what you bring to the table.”
Women are generally uneasy about asking for what they
want. They must stop thinking about what they need as a
self-serving request. They must develop the courage and
fortitude to stand up and ask for what they want.
While proving value, women tend to overcompensate in
order to demonstrate that they are adding value. Instead
of doing it all alone, change the paradigm and track to
encourage others to take on more responsibility, thus
enabling them to scale and multiply their own impact.
Not to forget, biased work culture and regional
barriers are the crucial obstacles in the road of women
work participation. But, today women are breaking these
shackles and coming out boldly to be a part of economic
processes shouldering their male counterparts.
There has been obvious progress in achieving gender
equality around the world over the past two decades:
more girls are attending school, more women are
working and are being elected to public offices, more
women hold management positions, and the situation
involving women’s legal as well as social rights have
also improved.
However, a great deal still remains to be done to achieve
equal outcomes for women and men. Recognizing
women’s abilities, the values they bring to the
organisation, the transformation they achieve as far as
work environment is concerned, and considering
monetary benefits associated with the female work
participation, corporate sector need to welcome their
emergence with open arms. No future is far where male-
dominated workplaces will be a tale of extinct, we
believe.

Erna GraszCultivating an Educated, Resilient, and Empowered World
Today’s era has witnessed major developments in
gender equality. Women and men are working
shoulder to shoulder in almost every industry.
Women are playing major roles in transforming businesses
and industries with their dedicated endeavors. A successful
female leader is honest, confident, resilient, and persistent.
They are committed to excellence, and possess the ability to
listen, learn, and adapt. They never give up at the face of
adversity, while leading the team towards success.
One such result-focused and dedicated leader is Erna
Grasz, the Co-founder and CEO of Asante Africa
Foundation. She believes that education is the way up and
out of poverty. As a girl growing up under tough conditions
in Texas, Erna learned that it is essential to muster courage
and resiliency to thrive, not just survive. Also, she learned
that education is a great equalizer and enabler.
Hard driving and up for any challenge, Erna defied the odds
in the man’s world of electrical engineering, graduating top
of her class. As a corporate executive, she learned to lead
through ambiguity, provide structure in chaos, mobilize
global talent, and drive technology to maturation. She
believes that success is defined by challenges being
perceived as opportunities and empowering others to join
the journey.
Overcoming Difficulties Confidently
Erna emerged as a young, gregarious electrical engineer in
a male dominated culture, struggling to find an environment
to thrive. She created one for herself where “misfits” could
thrive working together for a bigger purpose.
“If I can’t fit the traditional mold, I will have to shape my
own mold,” says Erna. She is energized by the unknown
and trained to translate new situations into manageable
risks—each solvable. As a young team leader, she
recognized that she did not have all the tools in her own
toolkit and realized that she needed assistance from other
talented people in order to “tackle tough problems” as a
team.
Erna believes that one does not have to get it right every
time. It is essential to convert failures into learning
moments. One of Erna’s mentors shared that “People allow
you to make mistakes if they believe you truly care about
them. If one remains humble and authentic, one can lead
others to greatness, and accomplish the unimaginable.”
Focused on Attaining Excellence
Erna brings her leadership to the ‘social impact’ sector
where, as Asante Africa Foundation’s CEO, she invests in
local talent and partnerships to ensure success and long-
term sustainability. She believes that people are the most
important assets for an organization. Having worked in
corporate businesses where actions and laminated values
were not aligned, Erna is committed to ensure that actions
and values are aligned for all involved with the global
organization.
Under Erna’s astute stewardship, Asante Africa Foundation
focuses on developing the most precious resource- the
human resource. The company invests in the youth it serves
and their parents, its global staff, volunteers, partners, and
investors. Asante Africa is creating a ‘new normal’ in rural
Africa: educated children with big dreams, skills, and
resources.
A foundational principal of Asante Africa Foundation is
‘paying-it-forward.’ This model assists the educated youth
to create a thriving, self-propagating future without external
intervention. This assures ownership, sustainability, and
independence in an opportunity-rich world.
Emphasis on Technological Innovations
Erna believes that technology is a great enabler, however, it
is not the solution to all problems. It is one of the various
means to development, but not the only tool. She opines
that technology brings the company’s global workforce
together, accelerating decision making and facilitating
world-wide partnerships while enabling efficiency and
optimization. In developing countries, technology levels the

playing field for disadvantaged youth. Tools like mobile
banking and e-learning open doors to endless opportunities.
About Asante Africa Foundation
Asante Africa Foundation was co-founded by three
tenacious women, Erna, Emmy from Tanzania, and Hellen
from Kenya, who believed that education plays an essential
role in poverty alleviation. The organization was founded
on the principal that brilliance and talent are universally
distributed while opportunity is not. Team Asante Africa
believes that young people are the greatest untapped
resource in the world and everyone has a role to play in
opening doors, connecting dots, and creating new
opportunities.
Defying all Odds
Erna understands that difficult challenges require diversity
of thought. This demands leaders who do not fear change.
She is of the opinion that to solve difficult problems, it is
essential to embrace everyone, independent of their gender,
ethnicity, religion, age, or field of expertise.
Although many people did not support her decision to
become an engineer, Erna marched ahead, pursuing her
dreams. Erna learned to be comfortable in her own skin
using fearlessness, stage presence, and an analytical
mindset as tools in her toolkit. As an executive, she has
mentored others and inspired teams to strive together to
achieve where no one could achieve alone.
Scaling the Future
Erna states, “for Asante Africa Foundation, it’s not just
about the numbers but about the depth of impact. When the
environment changes, we are prepared to adapt to emerging
opportunities, resource constraints, and technology
advances. We have built a skilled, geographically-
distributed organization while planting 600,000 seeds – our
young change makers.”
She concludes by stating, “the next decade is focused on
exponential growth through our youth cultivating their own
impact, utilizing their skills and knowledge. Our ‘pay-it-
forward’model is catching fire, creating educated,
empowered youth to tackle the challenge of developing the
most precious resource on earth, the human resource.”

Groenewald
2007 survey by Smith and Wiseman found that 59
Aper cent people, of those surveyed, in sub-Saharan
Africa(SSA) were suffering from severe energy
deficiency. Children under the age of five showed signs of
stunting, wasting and slow mental development in rural
areas of SSA. Pregnant and lactating women were found
vulnerable towards diseases arising due to inadequate
dietary energy and protein.
Providing them chicken meat and eggs—considered the
best source of quality protein—was suggested as efficient
and healthy. They are not just high-quality protein, but also
provide important vitamins and minerals, are high in lutein
which lowers the risk of cataracts and macular
degeneration, and also the cheapest of all livestock meats.
As a result, poultry developed as a major industry in
developing countries. The industry set-up and produce are
relatively inexpensive, widely available, provides
employment, has a less detrimental impact on the
environment than other livestock, and uses less water.
However, the condition in which the poultry is kept in these
farms has always been a cause of concern. The birds are
placed in a closely packed cage most of the time, are fed
inadequately and sparsely, and injected with antibiotics and
hormones to keep them disease-free and increase their net
weight respectively.
All these conditions, while increasing the quantity,
adversely affect the quality of the produce. As a result,
instead of providing nourishment to the human body, gives
empty calories and in acute cases, causes harm.
Turning to Nature
In 1997, concerned about her family’s well-being due to
increasing use of processed and chemically treated food,
Jeanne Groenewald reached a point where she decided
that she could no longer feed her family any mass-produced
meat.
Born and brought up on a farm in Wellington, Jeanne
started experimenting with free-range chickens. The free-
range method of raising poultry demanded that chickens,
for at least some part of the day, are allowed to roam freely
outdoors and is not confined 24 hours a day.
Jeanne recalls, “When I started, there was no one else
farming free-range, so I had to teach myself, and learn by
trial and error because there were no mentors in the field. I
started with about 100 chickens that I reared in my
backyard, allowing them to forage freely. I fed them only

high-quality, all-grain foods, without animal by-products
like fish or poultry meal.”
The result was more than Jeanne could have imagined.
Smitten by the amazing taste of the chicken, her friends
help spread the word and Jeanne started receiving orders for
her chicken. "Between 1998 and 2000 the business grew
from 100 chickens every six weeks to 2000 chickens per
week," says Jeanne.
To meet the growing demand, Jeanne and her family
converted existing outbuildings to rear the chickens. They
first built dedicated houses, but soon the chicken outgrew
the space available. To accommodate the rapid growth,
Jeanne approached three contract growers and helped them
build similar houses to accommodate 15000 birds each. She
also established the Elgin Poultry Abattoir in Grabouw, and
today supplies free-range chickens to leading South African
retailers, selected delis and some of the Cape's top
restaurants.
The secret to Good Chicken
Jeanne makes sure that the birds on her farm and the
contractors’, lead as natural a life as possible. Chicks are
placed indoors for the first 10 days in summer and 14 days
in winter at a stocking density of 15 birds/m2, after which
they range on natural vegetation during the day at a
stocking density of a mere 5/m2.
The farm area is covered in lush vegetation with trees and
shrubs providing a natural shade during the day to forage
under and branches to perch on. The birds are also allowed
to sleep properly at night from four days old. The whole
environment makes for a stress-free living which Jeanne
believes is crucial to the birds as well as business.
"Without stress, a bird’s own internal immune system
becomes stronger, which allows it to fight most disease
challenges it is exposed to. The fact that bird mortality on
all our farms averages 3% is proof that this farming
philosophy is paying off,” says Jeanne. The chickens at
Elgin are reared according to humane farming practices and
are given no antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) which
makes them drug-free as well.
The Challenges
Raising Free Range Chickens at Elgin has its share of
challenges. Diseases are always a threat lurking around the
corner. But being Free Range, Jeanne doesn’t want to
depend on antibiotics. Instead, her focus is on increasing
the immunity of the birds to help them fight diseases.
To tackle diseases and boost the immunity, she uses high
quality, all-grain diet for chickens, and also get them
vaccinated for Coccidiosis, Newcastle disease and
infectious bursal disease (IBD). When a chicken falls ill,
her team works very closely with the avian vet. A change in
temperature is another challenge as the houses aren't
climate controlled yet. Here again, they make use of natural
ways to protect the chickens against extreme climate.
The side-effect of these practices is that the production cost
shoots up. Free-range chicken is expensive to produce thus
increasing the cost to consumers. She adds, “Consumers
must accept they are paying a premium for better quality,
more nutritious food.”
Looking Forward
20 years into the industry, Jeanne is yet to register a
slowdown in the demand of free-range chickens. Her plans,
as for the next few years, is to start producing more value-
added products. “The growth in the industry has been
stable. I think the selling points for free-range chicken are
health and animal welfare issues,” concludes Jeanne.

Minimizing Food Wastage through Sustainable Innovation
For a few decades, food wastage has been a growing concern. According to the Food
and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations, 1 out of 3 foods produced in
the entire world is wasted. Every year, a loss of around US$ 680 billion is seen in
the developed countries while the developing countries recorded around US$ 310
towards this wastage.
Although there have been many campaigns and awareness programs,
there are very few people who are willingly working towards
minimizing food wastage. With the aim to reduce the food
wastage, Jenny Costa, the Founder and CEO of Rubies in
the Rubble came up with a brilliant idea. Rubies in the
Rubble is an award-winning, sustainable food brand known
for making great tasting condiments that are packed with
purpose.
Jenny graduated with an MA in Mathematics and
Economics in 2008 before working in the city for 2
years. However, having always had a heart for
sustainability and good food, she quit in 2011 to launch
the food brand ‘Rubies in the Rubble’. Rubies in the
Rubble is now launching into kinds of ketchup and mayos,
with the aim of having an even bigger impact with more
mainstream, everyday products.
She started making her first batches of relishes from otherwise
wasted fruit and vegetables in 2011 and since then has been
working with farmers and producers across the country to put
surplus produce to good use and raise awareness around food waste
and the need to value our food supply chain better.
Having been the first movers in building a food brand in the ‘anti-food
waste’ space, their range of ketchups, mayo and relishes have won
numerous awards and are stocked across the country in stores including
Waitrose, Ocado, Sainsburys, EAT, Marriott, The Pig, Hippo Inns,
Revolution Bars and The Breakfast Club.
In the following interview, Jenny elucidates on what it takes for Rubies
in the Rubble and its cause to make the world a better place.

Below are the highlights of the interview:
Being an entrepreneur, what difficulties and
challenges do you face? What keeps you motivated?
There are constantly new challenges when running your
own company. The biggest for me would be the sense of
constantly learning key skills on the job like creating a
team culture, managing people, efficiencies in your
supply chain, keeping on track of sales targets and
budgets and the list goes on! However, having a bigger
purpose to just creating a product and selling it, keeps
you motivated every day, even the hard ones.
Describe in brief about your company and its
products
Rubies in the Rubble is known for making great tasting
condiments that are packed with purpose. We have a
range of ketchups, mayo and relishes all made from fruit
and vegetables that would have otherwise been
discarded. We are on a mission to end food waste and
ensure we have a planet that can sustainably feed its
people.
What advice would you give to the women who aspire
o become entrepreneurs?
If you have an idea that you simply cant not do, you
know the time is right to start! Go for it full-heartedly,
concentrate on the consumer and how you reach them
and build a great network of support around you. It’s a
great but trialing adventure.
How do you motivate your team at your organization
to be innovative and productive at work?
Our 3 values are to Be Resourceful, Dare to be different
and Make the boring special. Questioning if we are
holding to those keeps everyone in their team focused
and acting like an entrepreneur.
Where do you envision yourself and your company in
the near future?
We are on a mission to become THE household brand for
sustainable condiments. We want to grow our brand and
ultimately our impact and to do that we need to make the
best products out there in the best possible way!

Attributes
of a Good
Leader
www.insightssuccess.com40 | March 2020
Leadership is about using the
power of a position to
empower a group of people in
order to attain a common goal. A
leader’s task is to implement the plans
that usually look good on paper,
through a delegated team, in a specific
time with an ongoing motion. She/he
may use the traditional method or may
think out of the box. It depends on the
leader as how to do it; the ultimate
motive is to get the job done.
Although, each and every individual
has a different approach on leadership,
some might say it is about setting
examples, some might say it is about
sharing the authority; what matters is,
taking the right decision when it is
most needed.
Leadership varies from one
organization to another. An
organization is a dynamic body and
creates new probabilities every now
and then. And with new probabilities,
come new challenges.
Although, it is impossible to overcome
every challenge, the business
environment has adopted certain
leadership styles for the efficiency of
business:
The Participative Leader
Participative Leadership is the process
of sharing authority with the work
force in order to get optimum
efficiency. The team, after getting
access to certain powers, works
responsibly to accomplish the goals set
by its leader. The shared leadership
also helps in case of any requirement
of change, as the employees adapt
quickly in such environment.
Incidentally, this style of leadership fits
best in a scenario when there is a
limitation of time.
The Transformational Leader
A transformational leader inspires the
team through effective communication
and an intellectual environment.
However, these individuals require
communication grows. Especially,
when it comes to leadership, there is no
scope for lack of communication. A
Leader who fails to develop this skill is
looked up as incompetent, because it is
his job to send the message loud and
clear. Although, it is also important to
listen as it is an integral part of
communication.
Ÿ Integrity
C.S. Lewis said, “Integrity is doing the
right thing, even when no one is
watching.” Be it giving credit to one of
the team members or be it admitting a
mistake, a leader wears integrity as a
badge of honor. They do what is right,
no matter what.
Ÿ Empowerment
As mentioned earlier, Leadership is
about using the power of one’s position
to empower a group of people in order
to attain a common goal. A good leader
shares his authority with the team in
order to get the job done. By doing
this, he shows confidence in the team
and obliged by the gesture, the team
works with full enthusiasm to
accomplish the goal.
Ÿ Decision making
There is risk in decision to making.
Great leaders take great decisions
when the stake is high and it is the
success of those decisions that make
them great. To add up, a good leader
takes right decision at the right time.
In conclusion, a good leader can be
defined by the dynamics of his style in
leadership, the values that he brings to
the organization, the methods he uses
to make the best of the resources, and
the kind of decision he makes in the
given situations. At the end it is about
the attitude of an individual to bring
the change for good.
more detail oriented managers to
successfully implement their strategies.
Transformational Leadership is
considered among the most effective
employees of the organization. One of
the examples of this type of leadership
is when a leader is assigned on a higher
level for effective environment.
The Transactional leader
The transactional leadership, as the
name suggests, enables the leader to
incentivize the team corresponding to
their performance. The team gets
rewarded when it attains the goals and
the Leader has the power to review the
results and act accordingly when the
team fails to do the same. The goals
and the strategy to attain them are
decided by the leader and the team
itself.
The Situational leader
Situational leadership is a theory that
the best leader will adapt to the
required leadership style according to
need of the hour. A Situational leader
may adopt democratic style while
discussion business with senior
executive, but may switch to
transactional at the time of team
review. However every individual has
a natural style of leadership and it may
be difficult to switch roles at a certain
point of time.
Qualities of a good leader
There is an old proverb that says,
“Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed
Him for a Day. Teach a Man to Fish,
and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.” So
is the case with leadership. One of the
basic qualities of a Leader is to pass on
the leadership skills.
Following are some of the qualities of
a good leader:
Ÿ Communication Skills
Communication is the basic
requirement for efficiency in a
business. As the level of hierarchy

he endless space has always
Tenticed us humans, with
endless possibilities and
opportunities. The mere thought that
there might be people like us or
different from us sharing this universe,
is enough to get one excited to explore.
With the kind of development we have
been making in science and
technology, it doesn’t sound a distant
dream that one will be able to plan a
vacation to Moon or Mars.
However, before a dream comes true, it
must be seen, not in deep slumber but
with eyes wide open. In 2006, Julia
Hunter, a PhD in Astrophysics from
the University of Manchester and Co-
founder of District Commons, a US
non-profit organization, moved to
London. This was to start a career in
commercial space-flight with Virgin
Galactic when the company was a
relatively small startup.
She listened to Sir Richard Branson
explain how this startup would put a
product on the market for the public to
experience space-flight and see the
earth from the vantage of space. Julia
became enamoured with this idea of
space for everyone and has since
poured nearly every ounce of her
efforts into its success. She expresses,
"There has been no clear-cut roadmap
for the path I have paved, but it
continues to be the most extraordinary
journey.”
Finding New Horizons
Julia's career has taken her from
astrophysics and academia to helping
operate the world's first publicly traded
commercial space-line company which
recently began trading on the NYSE.
Before joining Virgin Galactic, she co-
founded District Commons which
served as a network of resources
dedicated to building community and
collaboration to catalyse and advancing
society.
During and after college, she engrained
herself into aerospace, attending
conferences, becoming a member of
the National Space Society,
International Association of
Astronomical Artists, American
Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics, Women in Aerospace,
and working various projects with ESA
and NASA.
Virgin Galactic is the world's first
commercial space-line for private
astronauts. Julia explains, “Our
business aim has always been to
Change the World for Good, and we do
that from how we operate and treat our
teammates, to how we are opening
access to space.”
Being the Senior Vice President for a
company which aims to change
humanity’s relationship with its home
planet, is both a privilege and pleasure
for Julia. Her responsibilities include
the management of a senior staff team,
organizational operations, and ensuring
that safety and regulatory compliance
is met.
On a broad scale, her work has her
strategising the direction of the
company through operations while
developing and maintaining key
corporate relationships.
The Fuel to Drive
Julia’s overarching role is to work and
support a team of incredibly talented
and driven people that, like her, also
carry Virgin Galactic's goals in their
DNA. The challenge of human space-
flight is a constant motivation and a
constant place of learning. It is what
drives her and many others in the space
industry. Seeking personal balance in
this environment is how Julia finds and
encourages others to find, sustained
energy for optimal human performance
demanded from these types of
endeavours.
At Virgin Galactic, Julia promotes the
concept that balance can provide a self-
powering, self-sustaining charge which

is often needed with the intensity of
aerospace ventures. She explains,
“Seeking balance does not necessarily
always mean finding balance, but it
does mean making a conscious choice
to add value to my life through
differing avenues; finding time to
quieten the mind, play with my kids,
have date nights with my husband,
train to run marathons, and climb
mountains. Of course, I don't do all of
these things every day, but I have found
that making an effort each day to do
things outside of my professional role,
has made me a much happier and more
balanced person.”
The Starry Moments
Reliving the moment her crew flew to
space for the first time in December
2018, Julia categorizes it as the most
remarkable moment. She recalls, “It
was an electric period leading up to
that successful flight which landed
back in Mojave with the world's newest
astronauts. Watching the flight from the
vantage of the mission control room,
was impressive and restless and it took
some time for the success of that flight
to sink in. The look on the faces of the
crew members reflected how
meaningful and inspirational this
endeavour was and would always be to
the dedicated group of talented people
who had made it possible.”
Virgin Galactic entered 2019 as a
private organization with one space-
flight under its belt and its commercial
operating base still under construction.
It finished the year as the world’s first
publicly listed human space-flight
company, operating from the globe’s
only purpose-built commercial
spaceport, with two space-flights
completed and five commercial
astronauts among its teammates. Julia
applauds the effort put in by every
team member saying, “Our team has
done that in twelve months, and I am
proud to be one of the people at the
helm.”
Bolstering a positive company culture
has brought Julia a lot of professional
gratification. Science shows that both
positivity and diversity do drive
success. They provide efficiency in
problem-solving, boost creativity and
allow for a much more dynamic and
fun workplace. In recent years Julia
has relished championing inclusion,
helping develop Virgin Galactic's
intern and mentorship programs. She
also shares her knowledge and journey
at forums such as the Google Women
in Tech forums.
On the same note, she advises the
blooming entrepreneurs to “Approach
every problem with the unwavering
conviction that it has a solution.” She
feels that obstacles to space
exploration are innate and although
many of the trials that one faces in this
line of business are unique to the field,
so many aren’t unlike what new
entrepreneurial ventures encounter.
Challenges generally have multiple
solutions. Applying creativity and
tenacity to find one, and preferably the
best one to fit the circumstances always
proves useful.
The Work Culture
Julia is analytical in her approach to
science and business, and is an
impassioned leader connecting,
empowering, and supporting culture in
the workplace. Guided by the Virgin
Galactic brand values and the greater
Virgin values, Julia and her team, work
hard to promote a work culture where
the teammates feel that they can fully
engage. Creating a healthy culture has
meant creating a space where the
workforce is happy, fulfilled, and
engaged. One way is through providing
access to any teammate.
Julia elaborates, “In a company where
safety is our north star, we promote
and very highly regard, accessibility to
one another as well as openness in
communication. I sit wherever I can
find a seat, in one of many office
locations, and if someone has a
question for me, I will stop what I am
doing and make myself available.
Although we have a chain of approval,
we strive for familiarity.”
Of Grit & Gratitude
At Virgin Galactic's sister company,
The Spaceship Company, one of the
core values is that of ‘pure grit.’ It’s
the idea that resiliency triumphs. Julia
shares this belief, along with another –
gratitude. “Gratitude for me allows
perspective and re-energizes me. With
tenacity and gratitude you can create
and recreate new norms, and push
boundaries daily,” concludes Julia
Hunter.

Margaret Hirsch
Chief Operations Executive
www.insightssuccess.com46 | March 2020
Atrue champion in business is one who firmly
believes in giving back to the society, especially
to the people who are in need. It is a way of
showing gratitude for what society has done for you and
your business. Not just limited to giving back, but to
potentially uplift the various strata of society is a sign of
exemplary goodwill that a leader must possess.
With a strong sense of survival and positive attitude, one
can lead the way through the difficulties faced in a long
tenure of not just any business, but life as well.
Living by these principles and getting through the tough
times while setting an example, Margaret Hirsch is an
inspiration to many. Through sheer determination and
positive attitude, she has led Hirsch’s Homestores for
forty-one years now. Being the Chief Operations
Executive at the company,
Margaret has been integrally involved with all aspects of
the business. She regards herself as the ‘jack of all
trades,’ as she has done everything from selling,
invoicing, and demonstrating, to being a delivery person
on the trucks, installing, and performing live demos in
customers’ homes.
Insights Success brings the incredible story of a woman
who has been inspiring others to uplift themselves by
living their dreams. Given below are the insightful
details, answered by Margaret herself:
What is your definition of success?
Success is to be healthy, wealthy and wise, as you can’t
help other people unless you are in peak physical
condition, financially independent and you have learned
as much as you can on any given subject. To me, success
is about remaining financially free and being able to help
other women to get there and to achieve their goals. The
road to the top is long and windy and if you can have
others join you along the way, it goes faster. It is far
more pleasant and gives you greater satisfaction. Behind
every successful woman is a whole tribe of other women
who have her back - for some, I am the successful
woman in the lead and for others, I am the one who has
their back!
How do you strive to achieve it every day?
Every day without fail I exercise, invest and learn. I am
financially independent, and I help women, on a daily
basis to achieve their goals by teaching them to help
themselves achieve their goals. I work with babies,
children, teenagers, young women striving to get ahead,
self-made millionaires and in old age homes. Women are
women, never mind age, color or creed. They all have
their issues but mostly all they need is a bit of empathy, a
shoulder to cry on and someone to give them good solid
advice - that someone must not want to do it for any
personal gain but just to be of service and help to them.
Tell us more about your company.
I own the largest independent appliance, electronic start-
up, bedding, and furniture store in South Africa. My
husband and I started the business as a repair company in
1979 and it has grown steadily since then. We have stood
the test of time, weathered many storms and come out on
the other side. We have recently handed the reigns over
to our only son who is determined to grow the company
to greater heights while not losing sight of the founders’
mentality that has been our success. We strive to have
happy returning customers and create raving fans!
Service is our mantra as we started as a service company
only and then branched into sales further down the line.
In 1994 we sold all the services in our company, e.g.,
transport, repairs, installations, etc., to our staff and
started them in their own businesses and it is our joy and
pleasure to see these companies grow. In some cases, we
handed down the businesses on to the original
contractors’ children. We still give the best possible
service to our customers from a repair and a sales
perspective.
What are the major challenges you came/come across
in your career?
We look upon every challenge as an opportunity and are
aware that we are only growing in the hard times. Every
challenge has taken us to new heights, for example being
swindled out of everything we had after 10 years of
WomenBUSINESS

2020

working hard and having to start all over again but you
know, if you have done it once you can do it again - and
we did. From the depths of someone else’s debt to claw
our way back up again seemed an insurmountable feat,
however, we did it and went on to grow from strength to
strength. How did/do you tackle them? Well, there is no
magic formula. You just tackle one challenge and cross
one bridge at a time. It is necessary to learn from one’s
mistakes but the most important thing to remember is
that the first time you make the mistake - it's a mistake,
the second time you are an idiot! Never make the same
mistake twice!
As a business leader, what is your vision for your
company?
Having now reached my three score years and ten, I am
on borrowed time so my husband and I have handed over
the reins of the business to our children - our son Richard
(43) is now CEO and our daughter Luci (41) is a
Director. We have a wonderful team of educated and
talented people to take over, as well as Directors who
have been with us for 30 years and more, to balance the
young bucks and the older team members.
According to you, how important is it to be updated
with technology as per your industry sector?
Absolutely vital - technology is part of our business and
I am grateful that through this I am kept up to date daily
with the latest technology. I never cease to be amazed at
the ingenious inventions of our time- or how quickly we
take them for granted.
As a woman business leader, what is your opinion on
the necessity of women in leadership roles?
It is absolutely vital - especially in our industry where
85% of the decisions to buy are made by women! To
this end, I work in the schools on a weekly basis training
girls on life and how to start and run a business as well
as how to be independent and stand strong as they will
not only have to take care of themselves but their
children as well.
How do you strategize on scaling your company in
the near future?
As technology is moving so fast and shopping trends are
also changing rapidly, we must be able to be completely
flexible, adaptable and ready to change course in a
heartbeat. We are so privileged to be living in these
exciting times where life is galloping faster than ever
before - we have to think on our feet and always be
ahead of the pack.

f you look closely, you’ll find
Imany similarities between athletes
of extreme sports and
entrepreneurs. They both are
passionate about what they love i. e.
sports and a business idea respectively.
They both take risks (calculated), go
beyond what others are willing to do,
and have the drive to be the best one
can ever be. They need to get out of
their comfort zone and push
themselves beyond boundaries. And
last but not least is persistence. They
need to try again, and yet again until
they succeed and realize the dream that
they set out for.
On a similar notion, Marina Tognetti
has always found herself inspired by
such people who dare to push the
limits. But inspiration wasn’t just
enough for her to leave her comfort
zone and venture into unknown waters.
She was nestled in her successful
career that boasted of large
multinationals such as Procter &
Gamble, Philips, Sara Lee, The Boston
Consulting Group, eBay. She also has
an MBA from INSEAD and has lived
and worked in different countries.
While working as a consultant on a
project on internet strategy, she first
saw the potential of the internet to
disrupt entire industries and change
forever the way businesses buy, sell or
interact. Awestruck by the idea and its
potential, Marina realized that she had
to be part of it. That moment sparked
her entrepreneurial journey and acted
as a driver to start an innovative
company as mYngle.
At that exact moment, she knew that
she could make a real difference.
The Jolt after a Dream
Marina launched mYngle as a
marketplace, something she knew very
well from her previous experience at
eBay. The start was a smooth one. But
the main challenge lay ahead. As
Marina puts it, “When we started, we
were pioneering, amongst the first to
provide one-to-one teaching of all
languages over the internet. We
thought we got it all: funding, lots of
Awards and PR, a very motivated team.
But something in the business model
was not functioning as we expected.”
The toughest parts of the journey are
also the most memorable in
reminiscence, once you overcome the
challenge. The biggest challenge was
when the team had to ‘pivot’ from the
initial business model to a completely
different one that mYngle is today.
To set the path right, Marina and her
team listened to the customers and they
gave them the new direction, from an
open marketplace to a quality global
online school, from B2C to B2B. She
says, “That was the key to success of
mYngle. We now have prestigious
business clients and learners all over
the world, with tens of thousands of
lessons given each month and 95% of
learners that rate mYngle as
excellent.”
mYngle’s Journey so Far
mYngle offers customized language
training programs through video
conferencing in 45 different languages
anytime, anywhere. Its lessons are one-
on-one, with highly qualified native
coaches and related to the learner’s
job-position. The virtual classrooms
enable learners to take classes 24/7.
The platform serves as a solution for
busy professionals who need language
training to be successful in their
international business. Companies, that
want great learning results and a
transparent and controllable learning
process to make their investment
successful, find mYngle as the best bet.
When mYngle was established, it was
just at the beginning of the disruption
of one of the most traditional
industries, that of education. So the
company had to bypass all sorts of
resistances—those of a still immature
market—especially the stereotypes that
consumers had in their minds about
education.
For these reasons, mYngle has also
won numerous awards as recognition
for its contribution to online education.
Immediately at the start (2008):
Accenture Innovation Award, European
Ventures Summit Award, Benelux
Venture Summit Award, and so on.
Marina, as a tech entrepreneur and the
Founder and CEO of mYngle, also
received numerous awards such as 50
most inspiring women tech leaders in
Europe, 50 most inspiring women in
the Dutch technology sector, Iconic
Women Creating a Better World for All
and many others.
A Culture that Inspires
Inspiration and happiness are

contagious. Marina finds it extremely
motivating, being part of the transition
in the world of education. And as a
leader, she says, “I know that me being
happy and in balance gives my
company the right leader able to drive
it in the most difficult situations.” Her
positive state of mind rubs off onto
those around her.
In mYngle the management stimulates
a culture of experimentation and
allowing mistakes. They believe that
innovation cannot exist in a culture of
fear of consequences. Marina adds,
“We try to develop people who think
and not only do ‘jobs’. We look in our
staff for entrepreneurs, people who do
not keep the status quo but push
themselves beyond their comfort zone.
If you try ten new things, some will fail,
some will be OK, and one will make a
difference. We are looking for that
‘special one.’”
Marina’s Advice for Budding
Entrepreneurs
“Probably the most important piece of
advice I can give is to stop comparing.
The stories you read about the few that
‘got it all’are rare exceptions and
often not the full truth. Let go of all of
that. Stop trying to imitate types of
leadership you see around but which
are not you and be true to yourself,”
Marina expresses.
“I had to take the plunge. That is what
makes the difference between
visionaries and followers. If you don’t
succeed at first, try again. Being
innovative meant that there was no set
path I could follow. I had to discover
the way, keeping the vision clear ahead
of me. Don’t always stick to the plan.
Things might evolve differently from
what you had initially anticipated.
Take advantage of it,” she concludes.

  • 4. Avalue-driven business as we know is worth millions. But little do we understand the essence of it, the way it is operated and the methods through which the process is carried out can be more complex than just rudimentary routine work. From the outside, it may give the impression that the business is going smoothly. Its growth rate may be fast, but actually, to know the comprehensive activities that involve the bigger picture is quite a troublesome task. Business in itself is very dynamic. Its continuous evolution and changing trends redefine its tendency of operability and compel the business owner to grow with the changes or go out of the business. The term, ‘go big or go home’ suitably suggests the emotion of doing business. Its adversities make every person who is involved in carrying out the business’s daily activities, a seasoned professional. One must be ready to put all of their efforts in order to yield optimum results in the business, especially when it comes to profit maximization. That’s how a business grows, with a clear vision to succeed in all its aspects and the efforts one person puts into the operations. The efforts that we are talking about may vary from various perspectives. But the essence of it remains the same. In this dynamics of business and success, one factor that has been a differentiator with all its comprehensive inputs are women. Women, wherever they may be, whatever timeline, have been disrupting the business environment from the word. They have proved themselves in every zone, every array, every vertical of every industry, that they can bring solutions uniquely suited to the business requirements. Celebrating and encouraging the efforts shown by the women in business, Insights Success with its latest edition - ‘League of Successful Business Women 2020’, wishes to showcase the stories of some extraordinary women who are in a league of their own. EDITOR’S DESK www.insightssuccess.com 2020 | Volume-# | Issue-# www.insightssuccess.com 2020 | Volume-03 | Issue-# BUSINESS LEAGUE OF SUCCESSFUL 2020 Success Today – A Dynamic Combination of Women and Business
  • 5. First in line with this league is Ann Chapman - Managing Director and Co-founder of Minesoft, who is providing leading-edge patenting solutions that can connect to the target audience efficiently. She is a bibliophile who is fond of written words and languages. Cara Scharf through her firm Fearless Media is enabling various digital marketing services, specializing in entertainment, retail, education, and technology verticals. It is a full-service, NYC-based company and Cara while leading it contributes to creating beautifully integrated solutions and communication across all media platforms. Contributing to finding better solutions for the issues related to inflammation, Dr. Caroline Barelle, CEO of Elasmogen has been conducting various researches. Her vision for the future is to build and grow the company in the clinical drug development process. Also, Diana Williams - Founder and Managing Director of Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs believes in a notion of leading the business that provides class-apart health and wellness experience to its esteemed members. She proudly leads a team of superstars who are relentlessly working towards bringing her vision to life. Dr. Celeste Fralick, Chief Data Scientist and Senior Principal Engineer of the company, is helping in facilitating positive experience to customers while enabling leading-edge scientific solutions. We have also included the story of a result-focused and dedicated leader, Erna Grasz. Being the Co-founder and CEO of Asante Africa Foundation, she believes that education is the way up and out of poverty among other adversities. With this idea, she has been investing in local talents and partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability in business as well as in society. Preaching a healthy lifestyle while working with nature, Jeanne Groenewald is following a free-range method of raising poultry demanded. In this method, chickens, for some part of the day are allowed to roam outdoors freely rather than being confined for 24 hours a day. This practice is really worth a read and Insights Success has brought its readers the same. Another big name that is motivating a well-rounded lifestyle with minimizing the wastage of food through sustainable innovation is Jenny Costa. She is working as the CEO of Rubies in the Rubble, and her idea of putting the country’s surplus produce to good use is really making a difference. The Senior Vice President of Virgin Galactic, Julia Hunter has also made it to the league as her relentless efforts to counter the challenge of human space-flight are truly commendable. It is a constant motivation and a place of learning for her. Read more about it in the column. Living by the principles of survival with a positive attitude, Margaret Hirsch is an inspiration to many. She has been setting an example through sheer determination while leading Hirsch’s Homestores for forty-one years as the Chief Operations Executive. Do read her fulfilling journey towards uplifting others to achieve their dreams. Next in line for the mention in the league is Marina Tognetti. As the Founder and CEO of mYngle, she is enabling a marketplace that provides one-to-one teaching of all languages over the internet. How is she doing it? Well, you have to give it a read to find that out. Finally, ending this cluster of exemplary stories, Insights Success is presenting the tale of Shiela Butch Roxas Dimaculangan. She is an active Municipal Accountant in the city of San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro. She has been serving there for more than twenty-two years in the same position with passion and zeal. So, appreciating and celebrating each and every woman on this panel, Insights Success urges its readers to help motivate and recognize the efforts and struggles they have put into building their respective businesses by reading their incredible stories. Ann Chapman MD & Co-founder www.insightssuccess.com10 | March 2020
  • 13. She gives special credit to her husband Ophir Daniel, a seasoned professional for her remarkable success as the MD of Minesoft. Ophir drives innovation through product design, development and IT infrastructure. He is a genius innovator who has a new idea every day. He grew up as an engineer on a kibbutz in Israel, a big collective farm with advanced manufacturing facilities. Rahman Hyatt, Board Director, is another key person at Minesoft, who has assisted significantly towards the growth of Minesoft. “We also have a highly motivated and hardworking team that is comprises of adept professionals. In my opinion, a company needs a variety of assets for prolonged success and it is the role of the leader to enable others to fulfil their potential too,” asserts Ann. Minesoft’s Illustrious Offerings and Remarkable Feats With leading corporations, patent offices and law firms among its customers, Minesoft has come a long way from its humble beginnings. It has achieved this without taking on outside investment but instead in always being forward thinking in growing the company’s network and locating new partners. Minesoft’s history spans over 20 years of innovation and development – an achievement in itself. In 2003, Minesoft & RWS launched PatBase, a new searchable database of patent documents designed by experts in the complex art of the patent information research. Since the first critically acclaimed public demonstrations in 2003, PatBase has gone on to attract over 70,000 users worldwide. “Whilst we are probably best known for PatBase, a professional patent search and analytics system, we have clients so far spread that many never search at all,” stated Ann. “ For example, legal operations professions who may be paralegals or the like require access to clean data but for entirely different purposes.” In 2009, Minesoft won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for an outstanding achievement in rapidly growing export markets in the field of Intellectual Property (patent) information – a tribute to the international success of PatBase and to the dedication of the development, sales and support staff behind it. Minesoft has expanded its portfolio of innovative patent information products to include PatBase Express, PatentOrder, Patent FamilyPortal, PatentTracker, Legal StatusTracker, CiteTracker, Chemical Explorer, Pat- KM and PatBase Analytics. This continuous innovation was instrumental in Minesoft being awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for a second time in 2015. The Award was given for an impressive, sustained growth in International Trade, the company having demonstrated an outstanding achievement in rapidly growing export markets in the field of Intellectual Property (patent) information. The company has introduced a new product called PatDocs in late 2018 which provides fully automated patent family trees, the ability to instantly create a fully filled in SB-08 information disclosure document (ready for PTO submission), the ability to download any number of patent PDFs (in bulk or individually) within seconds and the ability to create a sharable work product between colleagues or between inside and outside counsel. Uniqueness of the Company Minesoft is a renowned patent solution provider that has partnered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in the ASPI programme. It provides researchers in developing countries free or low-cost access to sophisticated tools and services, like PatBase, for retrieving and analyzing patent data to help drive innovation worldwide. Minesoft has been providing industry with reliable and powerful solutions to access the technological and scientific information that is often only available in patents for the past 20 years. “We invest a lot of time and effort in the design and development of exactly the type of search tools our User Base requires to handle the multiplicity of data and sources – based on the feedback we receive,” added Ann. “Giving unfettered access to this data helps to drive innovation worldwide and make big advances in the scientific and technological landscapes whether it's a new pharmaceutical drug or technology for electric vehicles… building on these ideas can change the world for the better,” stated Ann. Future Endeavour Minesoft is working on developing a new search engine that should be released later this year. Moreover, the company is ready to develop some neat new functionality in areas like natural language searching and semantics. “We will also develop the area of automated translations and landscaping analysis. In the coming 10 years, Ophir and I will continue to travel widely to learn about our globe and help develop new technologies for the future,” concluded Ann. “Nothing is static and embracing change is an advantage in business life but keeping focus on the bigger picture helps me personally” WomenBUSINESS LEAGUE OF SUCCESSFUL 2020 11 | March 2020www.insightssuccess.com

It keeps you happy in your own little space, where you can bask in the achievements of your world. However, it makes you too comfortable to explore your own strengths. You never know what you are capable of doing if you don’t give it a try. Cara, until the year 2009, worked as Executive Vice President at an agency where she successfully led the agency’s growth and business development, by boosting the company’s revenue from 10 million to 50 million USD. For someone like her, who thrives in challenges, the sense of comfort soon became overbearing. She says, “I’d risen to the highest level I could with that firm, but I found myself feeling unsatisfied and unhappy. When my former employer asked me to climb to get a paperclip, that was when I knew. It was time. Leaving was a huge decision, but a quick one. I knew I had to be my own boss so I would never feel taken advantage of again.” Cara’s years of experience and motivated persona resulted in the establishment of Fearless Media. After taking the huge decision of starting on her own, she was now faced with everyday decision-making to keep her new company at the top of the charts. The initial two years got her working on all aspects which were tiring and gratifying at the same time. Cara soon became a successful and renowned businesswoman. It is imperative that you have the right skillsets and adjust your staffing as needed based on where you see the market heading. At the same time, as a woman, she feels that woman empowerment shouldn’t be talked-about but worked-on. The need for diversity, not only in the marketing and advertising industry but across all industries is irrefutable. Citing her own example, Cara states, “I think people take for granted how driven you need to be to run your own company. They typically reserve that ‘drive’for a man and resent when women are tigers. You don’t need confidence to start, you need guts. The confidence comes with knowing you have been able to beat all the odds. Only 0.1% of the founders in advertising are female. That is what I think about, if I ever start to doubt my abilities. I am still here 10 years later, and I keep learning every day.” Driving Digital Experiences For a decade, Cara and her team have been building and delivering compelling digital marketing experiences. • 18. Caroline Barelle any times people suffer from some self- Mgenerated disease which might lead to some serious health issues. Inflammation is one such self-generated defense mechanism that still remains one of the untouched medical conditions. Inflammation generally occurs as a self-defense mechanism in response to some foreign body or an injury. But, quite often this can result in unnecessary rapid reactions by bodily organs. This sometimes leads to serious health problems and in extreme cases, can be fatal. With various researches being conducted to find a better solution for the issues faced due to inflammation, very few have managed to contribute to it. One such personality is Dr. Caroline Barelle, CEO of Elasmogen. Elasmogen is in the process of next-generation soloMER products. These products will be helpful for the sight-saving treatment of inflammatory diseases of the eyes and inflammatory conditions of the gut. Caroline is a graduate in biochemistry from the University of Aberdeen. She has completed her Ph.D. in biochemistry and later chose to develop her business skills by completing an MBA. Currently, as a CEO, Caroline plays a significant role at Elasmogen. She handles all the aspects of the company from securing investments and making strategic decisions about the direction of the business to overseeing the science programs. Overcoming the Challenges Like any other entrepreneur, Caroline’s initial journey with Elasmogen was quite difficult. The biggest challenge she faced was to start a biotech company and to secure money for it. As a biotech startup, the main focus was on setting up a lab and negotiating the shareholding structure along with employing the correct team. Caroline says, “Every activity was one that I had never done before so it was all new and much of it such as the legal and accountancy activities were conducted in a totally different language from scientific speak!” The major issue emerged when the company was established. Caroline and her team had to continuously maintain and secure the investments. Apart from the investments, she had to maximize productivity and achieve the desired goal in the world of therapeutic drug development. Having done her studies in biochemistry, Caroline always wanted to contribute her career in drug discovery and development. From this, she gets the motivation to run a biotech firm so that it will benefit numerous human lives in the coming years. This will also create opportunities for scientists to develop their skills and prove and share the success for better drug delivery. According to Caroline, the greatest achievement to date is that she was courageous enough to set up a new biotech company. She not only started a company but, also helped it reach a level through these seven years. She adds, “I also take great pride in being able to provide jobs for fantastic people who are the most important asset - we work hard but also make time to enjoy what we do.” Novel Drug Discovery As Elasmogen has just started its journey, it aims to provide novel drugs to the world. The journey of these proposed medicines has to reach out to patients who are in absolute need. Caroline, with her scientists, designs and develops such novel drugs. Currently, the company is focused on developing types of drugs which are antibody-like. These drugs are named as soloMERs. The market today is dominated by such antibody-based drugs and these drugs by Elasmogen will prove helpful in changing patient’s lives. With any technology, there is a learning, refining and improvement process which is where Elasmogen sits – we are developing the next generation of biologic drugs to improve clinical outcomes “ “ Elasmogen’s core products are for the treatment of inflammatory, auto-immune disease and cancer. The development of drugs changes with time. With the advancement in technology, learning, refining and improvement of research and development occur. This is helping Elasmogen to develop the next generation of biologic drugs to improve clinical outcomes. Growing with Others An entrepreneur has plenty of responsibilities when it comes to managing a company and its team. Caroline gets her inspiration from the people she is surrounded by. She believes that one should surround themselves by the people who create positivity and help one grow. It is of utmost importance to interact with people who have gone through a similar journey that one wants to follow. Caroline mentions, “And finally in the words of Grace Hopper ‘it’s better to seek forgiveness than permission’ – essentially just go for it!” Apart from the supporting system, one needs to be innovative. Caroline adds, “Innovation is at the core of what we do and so provided it is adding value to the company and indeed the potential to be a life-changing drug then letting the team be curious and creative is easy as those are inherent characteristics of a good research scientist.” Further, Caroline wants a future with a vision to build and grow the company in the clinical drug development process. She wants to bring her first product to the market and enter clinical trials followed by a robust pipeline of next stage products. www.insightssuccess.com18 | March 2020

With calculated risks and a sprinkle of faith, most challenges can be addressed actively. Putting yourself out there and believing in yourself is the key to understanding how the business can be moved forward with a zeal to achieve success. At first, some of the ideas may be flawed but surrounding yourself with people who are practical and resourceful can help in measuring risks and a well-thought plan along with its contingencies can help scale business to new heights. Diana Williams, Founder and Managing Director of Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs believes in a similar notion and is leading a business, that provides a class-apart health and wellness experience to its esteemed members. The journey of Fernwood Fitness began thirty-one years ago in Bendigo, Central Victoria. One humble gym blossomed into an Australia-wide franchise business, exclusively for women. She feels fortunate to lead a team of superstars who continuously work towards bringing her vision to life. “Together we pioneer new offerings to ensure our members always experience a holistic health, fitness and wellness experience,” says Diana. Fernwood Fitness and its network of holistic women’s health clubs offer a wide range of fitness, well-being services, and programs. It includes strength training, HIIT training, personal training, yoga, reformer Pilates, group fitness, food coaching, meditation and wellness programs, and childcare services. While facilitating new trends in fitness and health, Diana has been awarded many accolades and recognition over the years. A few include being inducted into the Fitness Industry Hall of Fame, the Australian Businesswomen’s Hall of Fame, The Franchising Hall of Fame and the Bendigo Business Hall of Fame. She has also been awarded the Australian National Telstra Business Woman of the Year, the National Franchising Woman of the Year, and BRW Top 10 fastest growing companies three years in a row. Being recognized through awards is a fantastic way to catalog success and progression. For Diana, the main accomplishments are not the awards and accolades so much as hearing about women changing their lives for the better, in whichever they see fit, importantly through Fernwood. Her role in the business is to ensure that the new enthusiastic and ambitious members of the team are welcomed graciously and that their growth and potential is fostered by a conducive workspace. A positive and thriving culture is paramount to getting the job done well. According to her, one of the challenges of being an entrepreneur is taking the time to analyze and problem-solve new concepts. The entrepreneurial tendency is towards positivity and being risk-aware without seriously considering the idea of failure. The fitness and wellness industry, much like most other industries, is constantly evolving and shifting to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of the consumer. “I have never been content with resting on my laurels,” states Diana. Innovation is key to being successful in business. Diana feels to be at the peak of growth in her business when she lets her creativity and ideas flow freely. “The thing that motivates me is seeing how far the business has come from its humble beginning and how much further it has to grow to reach its full potential,” states Diana. She derives happiness and can’t help but feel proud when she hears someone say, they own or attend a Fernwood facility. It’s a refreshing reminder that the business has grown, nurtured, and is making a positive impact in other people’s lives. It’s extremely rewarding and highly motivating to keep building the business. Beyond 2020... Moving forward to the future, Fernwood will continue to roll out new women’s wellness programs. Through the partnership with Deakin University’s Food & Mood Centre, Diana and her team have created a series of programs to help women to find balance and calm in this constantly chaotic world. The club’s Empower program, in particular, has been designed to equip women with the tools to reduce stress and burnout, boost confidence and self-care while increasing overall health and happiness. “Ideas simply remain idle unless you have the ambition and support of a proficient and passionate team to support and nurture that dream until it reaches the finish line,” describes Diana. Being a successful entrepreneur also relies on knowing when to place an idea on the shelf. Like a good bottle of red wine, some ideas take time to reach their full potential and should only be uncorked at the opportune time. www.insightssuccess.com22 | March 2020

It is their intense focus that the omnipresent data today is being utilized to develop solutions in almost every industry. Dr. Celeste Fralick, Chief Data Scientist and Senior Principal Engineer, McAfee, is surely one of them. Her 40 years of professional journey began as a Quality & Reliability (Q&R) Engineer at Texas Instruments. Her first assignment was to develop statistical process control (SPC) where she became enamored with statistics and data. Additional Q&R positions at Fairchild Semiconductor and Medtronic continued to fuel her data-science on-the-job training. She then joined Intel, and stayed with the spin-out, McAfee, where she works today as Chief Data Scientist and Senior Principal Engineer. McAfee LLC is a device-to-cloud security company that provides many state-of-the-art solutions in both enterprise and consumer segments. Our products can be mixed-and- matched to provide the right solution to any customer. With over a billion sensors across multiple threat vectors around the world there’s a LOT of data to move and analyze in milliseconds. Read on as Dr. Celeste Fralick speaks her mind and heart out on matters that are close to her. • How do you keep yourself motivated? Please tell us about what inspires you and who do you look up to. I am most impressed with our leadership team, including our CTO (Steve Grobman), and VP of Enterprise Engineering (Lynda Grindstaff) who were long-time Intel employees – it is not trite to say I followed them to McAfee! I was able to hire a wicked smart team that inspires me daily, and I am surrounded by techies who want to catch the bad guy and seamlessly protect us. It is a very mission-oriented market – like medical, where people feel driven to help and serve, and the air is electric with their passion. I keep myself motivated by learning daily from each of them. • Share with us the most memorable and remarkable moment of your life, in a professional scenario. Also share with us the lowest phase of your life or the toughest deal to crack. There have been many! Being selected by Forbes in 2018 as one of the America’s Top 50 Women in Tech, presenting the keynote with McAfee CTO Steve Grobman at the 2019 RSA conference, creating a medical product group at Intel, leading a 150-member company technical engineering committee, and changing the culture for data and women at each company – well, every instance was incredibly memorable. As a lower-middle class kid from small-town Alaska, I consider myself quite lucky, but I have worked very hard to earn my stripes. My toughest challenge was realizing I was blind to a particular leadership pillar (“enabling others to act” per the book “The Leadership Challenge” by Kouzes and Posner) that was limiting my success. You can’t fix what you don’t know is wrong. It was very difficult but, following my projects and “awakening”, I was not only awarded the “most improved” trophy but my projects were so successful, I was promoted shortly thereafter. • State us your major achievements and your company’s achievements under your leadership. I’d like to think we have enabled McAfee to be a data-driven company with industry-best security analytics, and it is reflected in our industry recognized high ratings. • How do you ensure that there’s a healthy culture at the work space? As a Stage 4 breast cancer patient, I emphasize to anyone who will listen to get a mammogram. It saved my life, as does the every-three-week chemo that I endure to stay alive. While I am in remission (nearly five years), the constant chemo does wear me out and I have unique side effects that are often debilitating. So, health comes first. No stress, no negativity – stay happy, stay healthy. Enjoy your work, live every day like it’s your last. I try to ensure that everyone I connect with – even though I work virtual – feels the same way. • What would you advise to the budding and aspiring entrepreneurs? Never, EVER, believe anyone when they tell you that you can’t do something. Stay tenacious and focused, go after what you want. If you’ve failed, pull up your big-girl pants and go after it again. • What are the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career and would like to share? Build your career on your strengths, not weaknesses. Lead - don’t manage: inspire, challenge, listen, encourage, and model the behaviour you expect. Don’t stop thinking your crazy ideas – just implement them. Be a duck – let the rain roll off your back, stay calm, but paddle like crazy to get to where you need to go. Don’t get your knickers twisted – there are more important things in life. Keep your body and mind healthy. And, for goodness sakes, enjoy the journey. The Journey in a Nutshell Dr. Fralick found herself engrossed with all things statistical as soon as she began her career. She considers herself fortunate to learn from the best (like the late Dr. Joseph Juran); however, in 1992 she became restless to formally learn. She began an MS in Biomedical Engineering, focused on statistics, Design of Experiments, and bioelectricity while still working full-time and raising two young boys. She recalls her Intel interview as a ‘why-not?’, winging-it, unplanned interview. She was able to influence a much larger company while she finished her Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. focused on neuroscience, statistics, and neural networks (NN), a technology which had suffered a bad reputation for years but has become incredibly fashionable. Dr. Fralick was fortunate to be on the leading edge of their comeback and transfer her academic learning to her daily work. At MacAfee, her role is to provide company-wide data strategy as well as lead the McAfee Advanced Analytics Team to translate research of state-of- the-art security analytics into products. “ “ Dr. Celeste Fralick Chief Data Scientist & Senior Principal Engineer WomenBUSINESS LEAGUE OF SUCCESSFUL 2020 25 | March 2020www.insightssuccess.com

  • 29. G one are the days when women were stereotyped to a certain set of skills and professions, restricting them from exploring the world of endless opportunities. Today, women have announced their arrival in many fields of the business world. Therefore, it seems more important than ever before to recognize female contributions in every profession. Fighting through biased work culture in favour of male dominance, women have conquered the unconquered on the account of their distinct calibre and predilections. In the times when the world female participation rate is to the dispiriting levels of around 67% and pay-off rate of about 63%, achievements by women go-getters are praiseworthy. Listening capabilities is one of the distinguishing aspects of feminine species as compared to their male counterparts. Instilling and pursuing ones thoughts is undoubtedly important for effective working. But being a better listener is something that can make a difference as studies show that the customer values and trusts the firms if they perceive that they are being listened to by the firms. With inherent caring and affectionate traits, women outclass men when it comes to understanding critical demands of the customers. Emotional Intelligence (EI) - the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions as well as the emotions of others - is an essential skill when it comes to dealing with a diverse class of consumers. Women are naturally gifted with higher EI making them better suited for pressure situations and avoiding counter-productive decisions while keeping emotions in check. Emotional Intelligence encompasses two major dimensions – awareness of one’s self and awareness of others. Both the attributes are very much significant for the survival and success of any organisation. Self-awareness involves being familiar with trigger points and behavioural traits when put to the test. This, in turn, helps to modulate impulses avoiding conclusions which are harmful for the welfare of business. In addition to self-awareness, an awareness of others is equally critical in business. Analysing and decoding non-verbal communication – that amounts to 93% of the message – eventually benefits in convincing and converting a lead into a client. Collaboration, and not the cutthroat competition, is the modern era’s principle virtue to achieve success. Many endeavours which seem to be beyond the bounds of possibility can be attained by combining efforts from different resources, channels and departments. Further, collaborating products with consumer experience are enormously important. It leads to crafting the best solutions for customer’s pain points and compelling value propositions that reflect their overall business objectives. Multiple studies have found that women prefer to work in teams, while men prefer to work alone. An unfaltering affinity towards collaboration primes women to garner success in different fields of business which gives them an edge over others. Increased profitability can be a motivating factor for many firms to hire more pool of female talents as many studies support the fact. Statistical research shows that Fortune 500 companies with the highest representation of women on boards financially outperform companies with the lowest representation of women on boards. Moreover, gender- diverse teams have higher sales and profits compared to male-dominated teams, and a recent Gallup study found that gender-diverse business units have higher average revenue than less diverse business units. Trust over female leaders is an attribute which needs to be reciprocated while making the choice. More American workers perceive female executives as honest and ethical than male executives. Pew’s “Women and Leadership” surveyed Americans in 2015 and found that 34% say women are better at this, while only 3% say men are better at it (64% say there’s no difference). While it’s unclear whether this means women are actually more honest, it’s a subtle reminder of how tangled some business decisions can be. Leaders are often tasked with choosing between options that aren’t black and white, ethically speaking, and the capacity to lead honestly is important to the entire company’s success and job satisfaction. Not to mention, increased job satisfaction and organizational dedication to cite positive and meaningful business culture are the added advantages feminine employees carry to the organisation. However, the journey is not all merry go round every time. Hindrances – seen, unseen – are there to check the unrelenting zeal of women aspirants to thrive in the industry. These obstructions need to be pointed out and rectified to create an environment that fuels women empowerment. Women Empower 27 | March 2020www.insightssuccess.com
  • 30. Lack of confidence, according to many experts, is one prime reason women tend to question themselves and doubt their worthiness. In order to advance, they must coach their inner critics. Out-speak and define what women want professionally if they want to get succeeded. Too often they don’t know or rely upon others to define it for them. “Building relationships with those in positions of leadership is critical,” Susan Brady, executive vice president of Linkage Inc. says. “Put down the to-do list long enough to connect with decision makers across the organization, and help them understand who you are and what you bring to the table.” Women are generally uneasy about asking for what they want. They must stop thinking about what they need as a self-serving request. They must develop the courage and fortitude to stand up and ask for what they want. While proving value, women tend to overcompensate in order to demonstrate that they are adding value. Instead of doing it all alone, change the paradigm and track to encourage others to take on more responsibility, thus enabling them to scale and multiply their own impact. Not to forget, biased work culture and regional barriers are the crucial obstacles in the road of women work participation. But, today women are breaking these shackles and coming out boldly to be a part of economic processes shouldering their male counterparts. There has been obvious progress in achieving gender equality around the world over the past two decades: more girls are attending school, more women are working and are being elected to public offices, more women hold management positions, and the situation involving women’s legal as well as social rights have also improved. However, a great deal still remains to be done to achieve equal outcomes for women and men. Recognizing women’s abilities, the values they bring to the organisation, the transformation they achieve as far as work environment is concerned, and considering monetary benefits associated with the female work participation, corporate sector need to welcome their emergence with open arms. No future is far where male- dominated workplaces will be a tale of extinct, we believe. www.insightssuccess.com28 | March 2020

  • 33. Erna GraszCultivating an Educated, Resilient, and Empowered World Today’s era has witnessed major developments in gender equality. Women and men are working shoulder to shoulder in almost every industry. Women are playing major roles in transforming businesses and industries with their dedicated endeavors. A successful female leader is honest, confident, resilient, and persistent. They are committed to excellence, and possess the ability to listen, learn, and adapt. They never give up at the face of adversity, while leading the team towards success. One such result-focused and dedicated leader is Erna Grasz, the Co-founder and CEO of Asante Africa Foundation. She believes that education is the way up and out of poverty. As a girl growing up under tough conditions in Texas, Erna learned that it is essential to muster courage and resiliency to thrive, not just survive. Also, she learned that education is a great equalizer and enabler. Hard driving and up for any challenge, Erna defied the odds in the man’s world of electrical engineering, graduating top of her class. As a corporate executive, she learned to lead through ambiguity, provide structure in chaos, mobilize global talent, and drive technology to maturation. She believes that success is defined by challenges being perceived as opportunities and empowering others to join the journey. Overcoming Difficulties Confidently Erna emerged as a young, gregarious electrical engineer in a male dominated culture, struggling to find an environment to thrive. She created one for herself where “misfits” could thrive working together for a bigger purpose. “If I can’t fit the traditional mold, I will have to shape my own mold,” says Erna. She is energized by the unknown and trained to translate new situations into manageable risks—each solvable. As a young team leader, she recognized that she did not have all the tools in her own toolkit and realized that she needed assistance from other talented people in order to “tackle tough problems” as a team. Erna believes that one does not have to get it right every time. It is essential to convert failures into learning moments. One of Erna’s mentors shared that “People allow you to make mistakes if they believe you truly care about them. If one remains humble and authentic, one can lead others to greatness, and accomplish the unimaginable.” Focused on Attaining Excellence Erna brings her leadership to the ‘social impact’ sector where, as Asante Africa Foundation’s CEO, she invests in local talent and partnerships to ensure success and long- term sustainability. She believes that people are the most important assets for an organization. Having worked in corporate businesses where actions and laminated values were not aligned, Erna is committed to ensure that actions and values are aligned for all involved with the global organization. Under Erna’s astute stewardship, Asante Africa Foundation focuses on developing the most precious resource- the human resource. The company invests in the youth it serves and their parents, its global staff, volunteers, partners, and investors. Asante Africa is creating a ‘new normal’ in rural Africa: educated children with big dreams, skills, and resources. A foundational principal of Asante Africa Foundation is ‘paying-it-forward.’ This model assists the educated youth to create a thriving, self-propagating future without external intervention. This assures ownership, sustainability, and independence in an opportunity-rich world. Emphasis on Technological Innovations Erna believes that technology is a great enabler, however, it is not the solution to all problems. It is one of the various means to development, but not the only tool. She opines that technology brings the company’s global workforce together, accelerating decision making and facilitating world-wide partnerships while enabling efficiency and optimization. About Asante Africa Foundation Asante Africa Foundation was co-founded by three tenacious women, Erna, Emmy from Tanzania, and Hellen from Kenya, who believed that education plays an essential role in poverty alleviation. The organization was founded on the principal that brilliance and talent are universally distributed while opportunity is not. Team Asante Africa believes that young people are the greatest untapped resource in the world and everyone has a role to play in opening doors, connecting dots, and creating new opportunities. Defying all Odds Erna understands that difficult challenges require diversity of thought. This demands leaders who do not fear change. She is of the opinion that to solve difficult problems, it is essential to embrace everyone, independent of their gender, ethnicity, religion, age, or field of expertise. Although many people did not support her decision to become an engineer, Erna marched ahead, pursuing her dreams. Erna learned to be comfortable in her own skin using fearlessness, stage presence, and an analytical mindset as tools in her toolkit. As an executive, she has mentored others and inspired teams to strive together to achieve where no one could achieve alone. Scaling the Future Erna states, “for Asante Africa Foundation, it’s not just about the numbers but about the depth of impact. When the environment changes, we are prepared to adapt to emerging opportunities, resource constraints, and technology advances. We have built a skilled, geographically- distributed organization while planting 600,000 seeds – our young change makers.” She concludes by stating, “the next decade is focused on exponential growth through our youth cultivating their own impact, utilizing their skills and knowledge. • 36. Groenewald 2007 survey by Smith and Wiseman found that 59 Aper cent people, of those surveyed, in sub-Saharan Africa(SSA) were suffering from severe energy deficiency. Children under the age of five showed signs of stunting, wasting and slow mental development in rural areas of SSA. Pregnant and lactating women were found vulnerable towards diseases arising due to inadequate dietary energy and protein. Providing them chicken meat and eggs—considered the best source of quality protein—was suggested as efficient and healthy. They are not just high-quality protein, but also provide important vitamins and minerals, are high in lutein which lowers the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration, and also the cheapest of all livestock meats. As a result, poultry developed as a major industry in developing countries. The industry set-up and produce are relatively inexpensive, widely available, provides employment, has a less detrimental impact on the environment than other livestock, and uses less water. However, the condition in which the poultry is kept in these farms has always been a cause of concern. The birds are placed in a closely packed cage most of the time, are fed inadequately and sparsely, and injected with antibiotics and hormones to keep them disease-free and increase their net weight respectively. All these conditions, while increasing the quantity, adversely affect the quality of the produce. As a result, instead of providing nourishment to the human body, gives empty calories and in acute cases, causes harm. Turning to Nature In 1997, concerned about her family’s well-being due to increasing use of processed and chemically treated food, Jeanne Groenewald reached a point where she decided that she could no longer feed her family any mass-produced meat. Born and brought up on a farm in Wellington, Jeanne started experimenting with free-range chickens. The free- range method of raising poultry demanded that chickens, for at least some part of the day, are allowed to roam freely outdoors and is not confined 24 hours a day. Jeanne recalls, “When I started, there was no one else farming free-range, so I had to teach myself, and learn by trial and error because there were no mentors in the field. I started with about 100 chickens that I reared in my backyard, allowing them to forage freely. I fed them only WorkingWithNaturefora HealthyLifestyle We Work With Nature To Keep Our Birds Healthier And Happier, Which In The Long Run Also Improves The Flavour And Texture Of The Meat ‘‘ Jeanne WomenBUSINESS LEAGUE OF SUCCESSFUL 2020 www.insightssuccess.com34 | March 2020

Smitten by the amazing taste of the chicken, her friends help spread the word and Jeanne started receiving orders for her chicken. "Between 1998 and 2000 the business grew from 100 chickens every six weeks to 2000 chickens per week," says Jeanne. To meet the growing demand, Jeanne and her family converted existing outbuildings to rear the chickens. They first built dedicated houses, but soon the chicken outgrew the space available. To accommodate the rapid growth, Jeanne approached three contract growers and helped them build similar houses to accommodate 15000 birds each. She also established the Elgin Poultry Abattoir in Grabouw, and today supplies free-range chickens to leading South African retailers, selected delis and some of the Cape's top restaurants. The secret to Good Chicken Jeanne makes sure that the birds on her farm and the contractors’, lead as natural a life as possible. Chicks are placed indoors for the first 10 days in summer and 14 days in winter at a stocking density of 15 birds/m2, after which they range on natural vegetation during the day at a stocking density of a mere 5/m2. The farm area is covered in lush vegetation with trees and shrubs providing a natural shade during the day to forage under and branches to perch on. The birds are also allowed to sleep properly at night from four days old. The whole environment makes for a stress-free living which Jeanne believes is crucial to the birds as well as business. "Without stress, a bird’s own internal immune system becomes stronger, which allows it to fight most disease challenges it is exposed to. The fact that bird mortality on all our farms averages 3% is proof that this farming philosophy is paying off,” says Jeanne. The chickens at Elgin are reared according to humane farming practices and are given no antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) which makes them drug-free as well. The Challenges Raising Free Range Chickens at Elgin has its share of challenges. Diseases are always a threat lurking around the corner. But being Free Range, Jeanne doesn’t want to depend on antibiotics. Instead, her focus is on increasing the immunity of the birds to help them fight diseases. To tackle diseases and boost the immunity, she uses high quality, all-grain diet for chickens, and also get them vaccinated for Coccidiosis, Newcastle disease and infectious bursal disease (IBD). When a chicken falls ill, her team works very closely with the avian vet. A change in temperature is another challenge as the houses aren't climate controlled yet. Here again, they make use of natural ways to protect the chickens against extreme climate. The side-effect of these practices is that the production cost shoots up. Free-range chicken is expensive to produce thus increasing the cost to consumers. She adds, “Consumers must accept they are paying a premium for better quality, more nutritious food.” Looking Forward 20 years into the industry, Jeanne is yet to register a slowdown in the demand of free-range chickens. Her plans, as for the next few years, is to start producing more value- added products. “The growth in the industry has been stable. I think the selling points for free-range chicken are health and animal welfare issues,” concludes Jeanne. Jeanne Grœnewald 35 | March 2020www.insightssuccess.com
  • 38. Jenny Costa Minimizing Food Wastage through Sustainable Innovation For a few decades, food wastage has been a growing concern. According to the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations, 1 out of 3 foods produced in the entire world is wasted. Every year, a loss of around US$ 680 billion is seen in the developed countries while the developing countries recorded around US$ 310 towards this wastage. Although there have been many campaigns and awareness programs, there are very few people who are willingly working towards minimizing food wastage. With the aim to reduce the food wastage, Jenny Costa, the Founder and CEO of Rubies in the Rubble came up with a brilliant idea. Rubies in the Rubble is an award-winning, sustainable food brand known for making great tasting condiments that are packed with purpose. Jenny graduated with an MA in Mathematics and Economics in 2008 before working in the city for 2 years. However, having always had a heart for sustainability and good food, she quit in 2011 to launch the food brand ‘Rubies in the Rubble’. Rubies in the Rubble is now launching into kinds of ketchup and mayos, with the aim of having an even bigger impact with more mainstream, everyday products. She started making her first batches of relishes from otherwise wasted fruit and vegetables in 2011 and since then has been working with farmers and producers across the country to put surplus produce to good use and raise awareness around food waste and the need to value our food supply chain better. Having been the first movers in building a food brand in the ‘anti-food waste’ space, their range of ketchups, mayo and relishes have won numerous awards and are stocked across the country in stores including Waitrose, Ocado, Sainsburys, EAT, Marriott, The Pig, Hippo Inns, Revolution Bars and The Breakfast Club. In the following interview, Jenny elucidates on what it takes for Rubies in the Rubble and its cause to make the world a better place. www.insightssuccess.com36 | March 2020

  • 40. Below are the highlights of the interview: Being an entrepreneur, what difficulties and challenges do you face? What keeps you motivated? There are constantly new challenges when running your own company. The biggest for me would be the sense of constantly learning key skills on the job like creating a team culture, managing people, efficiencies in your supply chain, keeping on track of sales targets and budgets and the list goes on! However, having a bigger purpose to just creating a product and selling it, keeps you motivated every day, even the hard ones. Describe in brief about your company and its products Rubies in the Rubble is known for making great tasting condiments that are packed with purpose. We have a range of ketchups, mayo and relishes all made from fruit and vegetables that would have otherwise been discarded. We are on a mission to end food waste and ensure we have a planet that can sustainably feed its people. What advice would you give to the women who aspire o become entrepreneurs? If you have an idea that you simply cant not do, you know the time is right to start! Go for it full-heartedly, concentrate on the consumer and how you reach them and build a great network of support around you. It’s a great but trialing adventure. How do you motivate your team at your organization to be innovative and productive at work? Our 3 values are to Be Resourceful, Dare to be different and Make the boring special. Questioning if we are holding to those keeps everyone in their team focused and acting like an entrepreneur. Where do you envision yourself and your company in the near future? We are on a mission to become THE household brand for sustainable condiments. We want to grow our brand and ultimately our impact and to do that we need to make the best products out there in the best possible way! • 43. Leadership is about using the power of a position to empower a group of people in order to attain a common goal. A leader’s task is to implement the plans that usually look good on paper, through a delegated team, in a specific time with an ongoing motion. She/he may use the traditional method or may think out of the box. It depends on the leader as how to do it; the ultimate motive is to get the job done. Although, each and every individual has a different approach on leadership, some might say it is about setting examples, some might say it is about sharing the authority; what matters is, taking the right decision when it is most needed. Leadership varies from one organization to another. An organization is a dynamic body and creates new probabilities every now and then. And with new probabilities, come new challenges. Although, it is impossible to overcome every challenge, the business environment has adopted certain leadership styles for the efficiency of business: The Participative Leader Participative Leadership is the process of sharing authority with the work force in order to get optimum efficiency. The team, after getting access to certain powers, works responsibly to accomplish the goals set by its leader. The shared leadership also helps in case of any requirement of change, as the employees adapt quickly in such environment. Incidentally, this style of leadership fits best in a scenario when there is a limitation of time. The Transformational Leader A transformational leader inspires the team through effective communication and an intellectual environment. However, these individuals require communication grows. Especially, when it comes to leadership, there is no scope for lack of communication. A Leader who fails to develop this skill is looked up as incompetent, because it is his job to send the message loud and clear. Although, it is also important to listen as it is an integral part of communication. Ÿ Integrity C.S. Lewis said, “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” Be it giving credit to one of the team members or be it admitting a mistake, a leader wears integrity as a badge of honor. They do what is right, no matter what. Ÿ Empowerment As mentioned earlier, Leadership is about using the power of one’s position to empower a group of people in order to attain a common goal. A good leader shares his authority with the team in order to get the job done. By doing this, he shows confidence in the team and obliged by the gesture, the team works with full enthusiasm to accomplish the goal. Ÿ Decision making There is risk in decision to making. Great leaders take great decisions when the stake is high and it is the success of those decisions that make them great. To add up, a good leader takes right decision at the right time. In conclusion, a good leader can be defined by the dynamics of his style in leadership, the values that he brings to the organization, the methods he uses to make the best of the resources, and the kind of decision he makes in the given situations. At the end it is about the attitude of an individual to bring the change for good. more detail oriented managers to successfully implement their strategies. Transformational Leadership is considered among the most effective employees of the organization. One of the examples of this type of leadership is when a leader is assigned on a higher level for effective environment. The Transactional leader The transactional leadership, as the name suggests, enables the leader to incentivize the team corresponding to their performance. The team gets rewarded when it attains the goals and the Leader has the power to review the results and act accordingly when the team fails to do the same. The goals and the strategy to attain them are decided by the leader and the team itself. The Situational leader Situational leadership is a theory that the best leader will adapt to the required leadership style according to need of the hour. A Situational leader may adopt democratic style while discussion business with senior executive, but may switch to transactional at the time of team review. However every individual has a natural style of leadership and it may be difficult to switch roles at a certain point of time. Qualities of a good leader There is an old proverb that says, “Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man to Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.” So is the case with leadership. One of the basic qualities of a Leader is to pass on the leadership skills. The mere thought that there might be people like us or different from us sharing this universe, is enough to get one excited to explore. With the kind of development we have been making in science and technology, it doesn’t sound a distant dream that one will be able to plan a vacation to Moon or Mars. However, before a dream comes true, it must be seen, not in deep slumber but with eyes wide open. In 2006, Julia Hunter, a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Manchester and Co- founder of District Commons, a US non-profit organization, moved to London. This was to start a career in commercial space-flight with Virgin Galactic when the company was a relatively small startup. She listened to Sir Richard Branson explain how this startup would put a product on the market for the public to experience space-flight and see the earth from the vantage of space. Julia became enamoured with this idea of space for everyone and has since poured nearly every ounce of her efforts into its success. She expresses, "There has been no clear-cut roadmap for the path I have paved, but it continues to be the most extraordinary journey.” Finding New Horizons Julia's career has taken her from astrophysics and academia to helping operate the world's first publicly traded commercial space-line company which recently began trading on the NYSE. Before joining Virgin Galactic, she co- founded District Commons which served as a network of resources dedicated to building community and collaboration to catalyse and advancing society. During and after college, she engrained herself into aerospace, attending conferences, becoming a member of the National Space Society, International Association of Astronomical Artists, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Women in Aerospace, and working various projects with ESA and NASA. Virgin Galactic is the world's first commercial space-line for private astronauts. Julia explains, “Our business aim has always been to Change the World for Good, and we do that from how we operate and treat our teammates, to how we are opening access to space.” Being the Senior Vice President for a company which aims to change humanity’s relationship with its home planet, is both a privilege and pleasure for Julia. Her responsibilities include the management of a senior staff team, organizational operations, and ensuring that safety and regulatory compliance is met. On a broad scale, her work has her strategising the direction of the company through operations while developing and maintaining key corporate relationships. The Fuel to Drive Julia’s overarching role is to work and support a team of incredibly talented and driven people that, like her, also carry Virgin Galactic's goals in their DNA. The challenge of human space- flight is a constant motivation and a constant place of learning. It is what drives her and many others in the space industry. Seeking personal balance in this environment is how Julia finds and encourages others to find, sustained energy for optimal human performance demanded from these types of endeavours. At Virgin Galactic, Julia promotes the concept that balance can provide a self- powering, self-sustaining charge which www.insightssuccess.com42 | March 2020

She explains, “Seeking balance does not necessarily always mean finding balance, but it does mean making a conscious choice to add value to my life through differing avenues; finding time to quieten the mind, play with my kids, have date nights with my husband, train to run marathons, and climb mountains. Of course, I don't do all of these things every day, but I have found that making an effort each day to do things outside of my professional role, has made me a much happier and more balanced person.” The Starry Moments Reliving the moment her crew flew to space for the first time in December 2018, Julia categorizes it as the most remarkable moment. She recalls, “It was an electric period leading up to that successful flight which landed back in Mojave with the world's newest astronauts. Watching the flight from the vantage of the mission control room, was impressive and restless and it took some time for the success of that flight to sink in. The look on the faces of the crew members reflected how meaningful and inspirational this endeavour was and would always be to the dedicated group of talented people who had made it possible.” Virgin Galactic entered 2019 as a private organization with one space- flight under its belt and its commercial operating base still under construction. It finished the year as the world’s first publicly listed human space-flight company, operating from the globe’s only purpose-built commercial spaceport, with two space-flights completed and five commercial astronauts among its teammates. Julia applauds the effort put in by every team member saying, “Our team has done that in twelve months, and I am proud to be one of the people at the helm.” Bolstering a positive company culture has brought Julia a lot of professional gratification. Science shows that both positivity and diversity do drive success. They provide efficiency in problem-solving, boost creativity and allow for a much more dynamic and fun workplace. In recent years Julia has relished championing inclusion, helping develop Virgin Galactic's intern and mentorship programs. She also shares her knowledge and journey at forums such as the Google Women in Tech forums. On the same note, she advises the blooming entrepreneurs to “Approach every problem with the unwavering conviction that it has a solution.” She feels that obstacles to space exploration are innate and although many of the trials that one faces in this line of business are unique to the field, so many aren’t unlike what new entrepreneurial ventures encounter. Challenges generally have multiple solutions. Applying creativity and tenacity to find one, and preferably the best one to fit the circumstances always proves useful. The Work Culture Julia is analytical in her approach to science and business, and is an impassioned leader connecting, empowering, and supporting culture in the workplace. Guided by the Virgin Galactic brand values and the greater Virgin values, Julia and her team, work hard to promote a work culture where the teammates feel that they can fully engage. Creating a healthy culture has meant creating a space where the workforce is happy, fulfilled, and engaged. One way is through providing access to any teammate. Julia elaborates, “In a company where safety is our north star, we promote and very highly regard, accessibility to one another as well as openness in communication. I sit wherever I can find a seat, in one of many office locations, and if someone has a question for me, I will stop what I am doing and make myself available. Although we have a chain of approval, we strive for familiarity.” Of Grit & Gratitude At Virgin Galactic's sister company, The Spaceship Company, one of the core values is that of ‘pure grit.’ It’s the idea that resiliency triumphs. Julia shares this belief, along with another – gratitude. “Gratitude for me allows perspective and re-energizes me. With tenacity and gratitude you can create and recreate new norms, and push boundaries daily,” concludes Julia Hunter. www.insightssuccess.com44 | March 2020

It is a way of showing gratitude for what society has done for you and your business. Not just limited to giving back, but to potentially uplift the various strata of society is a sign of exemplary goodwill that a leader must possess. With a strong sense of survival and positive attitude, one can lead the way through the difficulties faced in a long tenure of not just any business, but life as well. Living by these principles and getting through the tough times while setting an example, Margaret Hirsch is an inspiration to many. Through sheer determination and positive attitude, she has led Hirsch’s Homestores for forty-one years now. Being the Chief Operations Executive at the company, Margaret has been integrally involved with all aspects of the business. She regards herself as the ‘jack of all trades,’ as she has done everything from selling, invoicing, and demonstrating, to being a delivery person on the trucks, installing, and performing live demos in customers’ homes. Insights Success brings the incredible story of a woman who has been inspiring others to uplift themselves by living their dreams. Given below are the insightful details, answered by Margaret herself: What is your definition of success? Success is to be healthy, wealthy and wise, as you can’t help other people unless you are in peak physical condition, financially independent and you have learned as much as you can on any given subject. To me, success is about remaining financially free and being able to help other women to get there and to achieve their goals. The road to the top is long and windy and if you can have others join you along the way, it goes faster. It is far more pleasant and gives you greater satisfaction. Behind every successful woman is a whole tribe of other women who have her back - for some, I am the successful woman in the lead and for others, I am the one who has their back! How do you strive to achieve it every day? Every day without fail I exercise, invest and learn. I am financially independent, and I help women, on a daily basis to achieve their goals by teaching them to help themselves achieve their goals. I work with babies, children, teenagers, young women striving to get ahead, self-made millionaires and in old age homes. Women are women, never mind age, color or creed. They all have their issues but mostly all they need is a bit of empathy, a shoulder to cry on and someone to give them good solid advice - that someone must not want to do it for any personal gain but just to be of service and help to them. Tell us more about your company. I own the largest independent appliance, electronic start- up, bedding, and furniture store in South Africa. My husband and I started the business as a repair company in 1979 and it has grown steadily since then. We have stood the test of time, weathered many storms and come out on the other side. We have recently handed the reigns over to our only son who is determined to grow the company to greater heights while not losing sight of the founders’ mentality that has been our success. We strive to have happy returning customers and create raving fans! Service is our mantra as we started as a service company only and then branched into sales further down the line. In 1994 we sold all the services in our company, e.g., transport, repairs, installations, etc., to our staff and started them in their own businesses and it is our joy and pleasure to see these companies grow. In some cases, we handed down the businesses on to the original contractors’ children. We still give the best possible service to our customers from a repair and a sales perspective. What are the major challenges you came/come across in your career? We look upon every challenge as an opportunity and are aware that we are only growing in the hard times. From the depths of someone else’s debt to claw our way back up again seemed an insurmountable feat, however, we did it and went on to grow from strength to strength. How did/do you tackle them? Well, there is no magic formula. You just tackle one challenge and cross one bridge at a time. It is necessary to learn from one’s mistakes but the most important thing to remember is that the first time you make the mistake - it's a mistake, the second time you are an idiot! Never make the same mistake twice! As a business leader, what is your vision for your company? Having now reached my three score years and ten, I am on borrowed time so my husband and I have handed over the reins of the business to our children - our son Richard (43) is now CEO and our daughter Luci (41) is a Director. We have a wonderful team of educated and talented people to take over, as well as Directors who have been with us for 30 years and more, to balance the young bucks and the older team members. According to you, how important is it to be updated with technology as per your industry sector? Absolutely vital - technology is part of our business and I am grateful that through this I am kept up to date daily with the latest technology. I never cease to be amazed at the ingenious inventions of our time- or how quickly we take them for granted. As a woman business leader, what is your opinion on the necessity of women in leadership roles? It is absolutely vital - especially in our industry where 85% of the decisions to buy are made by women! To this end, I work in the schools on a weekly basis training girls on life and how to start and run a business as well as how to be independent and stand strong as they will not only have to take care of themselves but their children as well. How do you strategize on scaling your company in the near future? As technology is moving so fast and shopping trends are also changing rapidly, we must be able to be completely flexible, adaptable and ready to change course in a heartbeat. We are so privileged to be living in these exciting times where life is galloping faster than ever before - we have to think on our feet and always be ahead of the pack. www.insightssuccess.com48 | March 2020

They both are passionate about what they love i. e. sports and a business idea respectively. They both take risks (calculated), go beyond what others are willing to do, and have the drive to be the best one can ever be. They need to get out of their comfort zone and push themselves beyond boundaries. And last but not least is persistence. They need to try again, and yet again until they succeed and realize the dream that they set out for. On a similar notion, Marina Tognetti has always found herself inspired by such people who dare to push the limits. But inspiration wasn’t just enough for her to leave her comfort zone and venture into unknown waters. She was nestled in her successful career that boasted of large multinationals such as Procter & Gamble, Philips, Sara Lee, The Boston Consulting Group, eBay. She also has an MBA from INSEAD and has lived and worked in different countries. While working as a consultant on a project on internet strategy, she first saw the potential of the internet to disrupt entire industries and change forever the way businesses buy, sell or interact. Awestruck by the idea and its potential, Marina realized that she had to be part of it. That moment sparked her entrepreneurial journey and acted as a driver to start an innovative company as mYngle. At that exact moment, she knew that she could make a real difference. The Jolt after a Dream Marina launched mYngle as a marketplace, something she knew very well from her previous experience at eBay. The start was a smooth one. But the main challenge lay ahead. As Marina puts it, “When we started, we were pioneering, amongst the first to provide one-to-one teaching of all languages over the internet. We thought we got it all: funding, lots of Awards and PR, a very motivated team. But something in the business model was not functioning as we expected.” The toughest parts of the journey are also the most memorable in reminiscence, once you overcome the challenge. The biggest challenge was when the team had to ‘pivot’ from the initial business model to a completely different one that mYngle is today. To set the path right, Marina and her team listened to the customers and they gave them the new direction, from an open marketplace to a quality global online school, from B2C to B2B. She says, “That was the key to success of mYngle. We now have prestigious business clients and learners all over the world, with tens of thousands of lessons given each month and 95% of learners that rate mYngle as excellent.” mYngle’s Journey so Far mYngle offers customized language training programs through video conferencing in 45 different languages anytime, anywhere. Its lessons are one- on-one, with highly qualified native coaches and related to the learner’s job-position. The virtual classrooms enable learners to take classes 24/7. The platform serves as a solution for busy professionals who need language training to be successful in their international business. Companies, that want great learning results and a transparent and controllable learning process to make their investment successful, find mYngle as the best bet. When mYngle was established, it was just at the beginning of the disruption of one of the most traditional industries, that of education. So the company had to bypass all sorts of resistances—those of a still immature market—especially the stereotypes that consumers had in their minds about education. For these reasons, mYngle has also won numerous awards as recognition for its contribution to online education. Immediately at the start (2008): Accenture Innovation Award, European Ventures Summit Award, Benelux Venture Summit Award, and so on. Marina, as a tech entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of mYngle, also received numerous awards such as 50 most inspiring women tech leaders in Europe, 50 most inspiring women in the Dutch technology sector, Iconic Women Creating a Better World for All and many others. In mYngle the management stimulates a culture of experimentation and allowing mistakes. They believe that innovation cannot exist in a culture of fear of consequences. Marina adds, “We try to develop people who think and not only do ‘jobs’. We look in our staff for entrepreneurs, people who do not keep the status quo but push themselves beyond their comfort zone. If you try ten new things, some will fail, some will be OK, and one will make a difference. We are looking for that ‘special one.’” Marina’s Advice for Budding Entrepreneurs “Probably the most important piece of advice I can give is to stop comparing. The stories you read about the few that ‘got it all’are rare exceptions and often not the full truth. Let go of all of that. Stop trying to imitate types of leadership you see around but which are not you and be true to yourself,” Marina expresses. “I had to take the plunge. That is what makes the difference between visionaries and followers. If you don’t succeed at first, try again. Being innovative meant that there was no set path I could follow. I had to discover the way, keeping the vision clear ahead of me. Don’t always stick to the plan. Things might evolve differently from what you had initially anticipated. Take advantage of it,” she concludes. To know how mYngle can help you communicate better in business, click here.
