stories, the first story we see is of a young women who is pursuing a career in ballet and the
extent that she has to go through to get where she wants to be. This is a narrative based
music video as a story is being told through the visual and it’s also performative as The
Script and Will.i.amare performing. The band are trying to promote themselves as this
group that say its ok to be who you are and that you will find people who will judge but it’s
about overcoming it.
The shots of the band are for the audience to be able
to recognise the artists and not associate the
characters with singing the song, they are acting as if
they are fighting against each other and this is
symbolic of the song. They have followed Goodwin’s
theory because the lyrics match what is being seen
on screen as when they sing “standing in the hall of
fame” this is too show that anyone can be iconic and
become famous.
The dark colours aren’t usually associated with pop videos because it connotes death and
danger, but they take these dark colours are used to make it seemas if the artists/the
characters in the video are mighty and powerful and can take on anyone, the single
spotlight on both characters is to show that they are the main focus in the music video,
which is a key convention of a pop music video.
Others could argue that this song fits into the indie genre because of the message and how
the video is made with dark colours that are associated with indie music videos.

for messing up which is singling her
out, which is reflective of society.
There is fast pace editing throughout the music video and it becomes reflective of the two
jobs we are seeing of dancing and boxing. This is allowing the audience to keep up with their
active lives and the struggles they face. The editing is slower when seeing the two artists
