FTP Server
• An FTP Server is a
software application that enables
the transfer of files from
one computer to another.
FTP (which stands for
“File Transfer Protocol”) is a
way to transfer files to
any computer in the world that is
connected to the Internet. One
computer acts as the server to
store information and the
other acts as the client to send
or request files from the server.

Kali Linux
• Kali Linux is an open-
source, Debian-based
Linux distribution aimed at
advanced Penetration
Testing and Security
Auditing. It does this
by providing common tools,
configurations, and
automations which allows
the user to focus on the
task that needs to be
completed, not the
surrounding activity.

The following slides contain
step by step instructions to
set up an FTP Server on Kali
Linux

First we run
our virtual Kali
file named
"gori" on
VMware
Workstation

In Kali's cmd, we go to privilege mode

We run the apt-get command which downloads and installs the updates for
each outdated package and dependency on the system

We install vsftpd
(very secure FTP
daemon) which
is an open-source
FTP server that is
the default FTP
server

We go to the "etc" directory and open file named vsftpd.config in it

We uncomment several commands
to make them executable

After exiting the file, we create a new file
named "vsftpd.chroot_list
