PDHPE is an important key learning area within
the primary curriculum. It educates children on
how to make healthy lifestyle choices and how
to have a sense of control about the decisions
they make. PDHPE programs play a unique role
in the development of students’
knowledge, understandings and practical skills
that lead to better health.
3. Why is PDHPE important?
Educating children on how to make healthier
lifestyle would ultimately mean they are more
likely to experience positive
relationships, improved quality of life and less
illness. PDHPE teaches children to identify the
principles of diversity, social justice and
supportive environments.
PDHPE encourages an understanding and
valuing of self and others.
4. Aims of PDHPE
PDHPE promotes physical activity and teaches
students the benefits of being active. It also
emphasises informed decision making that leads
to responsible action.
PHDPE aims to develop the knowledge of the
students, skills, values and attitudes to lead
healthy, active lives.
5. Benefits of teaching PDHPE
By teaching the students to identify diversity

communities to encourage better health for all.
