2. In our media product, the two minute outline to our thriller film,
‘Imprisoned’, we wanted to appeal to a certain target
audience, as our film had to be attracted to a certain group.
Our target audience is people aged 15-16, this is because this
age range, will understand the situations in the films, due to
the content. The primary audience will be males aged 15-45,
as they are most likely to enjoy crime- thrillers, with the
secondary target audience being females aged 15-45. There
have been many successful crime-thriller films that have been
established on the market well enough to avoid any failure.
Once we had figured out the target audience, we had to
think of different aspects that would attract them as well as
other viewers that could have an interest. Its important to try
engage with the target audience, to find out what things they
like and what they don’t.
3. Pre questionnaire
I asked 20 people to fill out our questionnaire, which I
had then gathered the results into a tally chart to
organise the answers. After that, I had put them into
pie charts, which gave the overall findings for each
question in the questionnaire. Each question helped
us collate information about our target audience or
what they expect in a thriller film. This managed to
help my group and I guarantee what we should be
including in our thriller, to meet their expectations, we
did not worry, as the information we had collected
was very informative.
4. For example, one of the questions I had asked in the
questionnaire, was ‘Do you prefer the lead role to be
played by a female or male?’. Majority of the answers
had been that they preferred the role to be allocated
to a male. Minority wanted a female to be a main
character, this was because a male character is the
typical stereotype, which they feel comfortable
watching.
5.
6. The narrative
Our narrative is very appropriate for a thriller with the
cross-genre as crime. The scenario for out opening
sequence fits right into the genre, due to the actions
of the main character, who is an antagonist, who
commits crime such as breaking and entering
someone's house, along with rape and murder.
7. Another question we asked was ‘ how would you like
a thriller movie to begin? ‘. We found out the most
common answer was in an everyday situation,
followed by in a forest.
8. We had combined these results into our final
production, being able to give the target audience
the conventions they wanted to see, was a successful
move. We had used two locations to create a tone
and create tension which was at a fast and slow
pace. This enabled my audience to feel involved and
gratified with what they were watching. Sound helped
increase the tension as it was an intense piece, which
related to real life. They see two different ages,
gender, and ethnicity in screen.
9. The narrative of an adult roaming the streets, breaking
and entering a house, looking as if its going to be a
robbery, but finding the true intentions once he has
found a teenager sleeping peacefully in her bed,
attracted the audience. The results from the
Reponses from the viewers, suggested that they
wanted to find out what happened next. They had
wanted to carry on, only if it was a 90 minute film.
They liked seeing both male and female characters
on screen, as the action between them was intense.
10. We were able to engage the viewers in our thriller
opening to film. they had felt tense, scared and
anxious throughout as they wanted to know what
could have happened next.
The killer played a crucial part throughout the film as
he created a type of tone for the audience that had
intrigued them into wanting to know more.
11. Overall
Lastly, we took many aspects of our audience
research on board and incorporated them into our
final piece , with fast and slow paced music, editing,
along with different locations and characters.
