Clinic Record and Drug Management System

  1. 1. Presented By: GROUP 4 Supervisor: Sani Suleiman Isah PhD Project title: Clinic Record and Drugs Management System Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Department of Computer Studies Literatures and Methodology Prototype Dev. and Future works Research Problem and objectives
  2. 2. What I plan to speak about … Literatures and Methodology Methodology Prototype Dev. and Future works System Development Introduction and Problem Statement
  3. 3. Motivation Clinic records and drug management, are routine processes carried out in various hospitals across Nigeria. It is a common place to observe that these routine processes are still preformed manually or are minimally computerized even in our clinics.
  4. 4. Problem Statement Problem Statement This manual approach to these routine operations has a lot of problems associated with it, ranging from: 1. Poor handling of drug data of patients, 2. Lack of good storage information system for drugs and drug dispensary, 3. Delays and difficulty in retrieving information on drugs and patients’ records. In view of all these problems, it becomes necessary to develop a computer based clinic and drug information management system.
  5. 5. Research Questions and Objectives RESEARCH QUESTIONS 1. What are the current processes of clinic and drug management system used in modern clinics and pharmacy? 2. How can an automated system of clinic and drug management be useful in the management of drugs in clinics and pharmacies? 3. What better approaches could be recommended in clinical records and drugs management systems? OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY 1. To study the existing processes in clinical records and drugs management 2. To design an automated clinic record and drug management system 3. To recommend better approaches in the use of clinical record and drugs management systems.
  6. 6. Methodology The Research methodology defined here is based on the methods used to collect information on the real world problem pertaining to clinic and drugs management system and to define system requirements. From the analysis study, understanding of the literature reviewed and analysis of questionnaires, will lead the initial requirements for the system. Evolutionary prototype is used as methodology for SDLC. Once the initial requirements are ready, the next step is to design the system, followed by coding and testing.
  7. 7. System Development Having carefully scrutinized the manual clinic record and drugs management system as was practiced by Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic Clinic. A web-based clinic record and drugs management system is produces that will replace the procedure done in the clinic.
  8. 8. Conclusion Thesis Motivation and Problem Statement CONCLUSION The design and implementation of clinic and drugs management system has created an avenue towards the development of clinics and hospitals at large. Due to the problems encountered with the manual systems, it has become necessary to develop information systems in order to reduce the cost of business and as well improve return of investment. This research has created a clinic and drugs management system from the problems highlighted in the literature and it is hoped to be implemented in an active clinic in order to ease way of doing the clinical activities.
  9. 9. Recommendations Several literatures have indicated the importance of real-time diagnosis and drugs management system. In view of that, this research have highlighted some recommended approaches to be involved in the development of medical information systems such as the one developed in this study. In view of the work just concluded, we wish to make the following recommendations: 1. We recommend this work to all clinics both large and small whose activities management processes are still carried out manually. 2. In particular, this work is high recommended for use in Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic Clinic. 3. With very little modification this work can be used in any clinic and pharmacy. 4. The employment of computer personnel for effective maintenance of the new computer based system will enhance a maximum output of this package. We recommend that the users of this application make effort to follow the change in information technology, which certainly translates their method of operation into a modern way of information processing. This is important because no matter how efficient the application is, it will not be productive if the user do not use it well.
