CONSTRAINTS FACED AT PUNE AIRPORT
Pune Airport is the 10 th busiest with 3.4 million annual pax traffic & daily handling 86 aircrafts & 8000
passenger movements round the clock and it has recorded an annual growth of 17 % .it is an IAF
controlled Civil Enclave & operating in 26 acres of land only.
1. UN AVAILABILITY OF LAND FOR FURTHER EXPANDING INFRASTRUCTURE
on apron side for additional Parking for Aircrafts ,GHA ,Office & Cargo & additional facilities for Passengers in
Terminal Building & City side
 Housing for Employees of AAI (307)& CISF(316) &offices
2.Restrictions by IAF on civil operations during prime morning and evening hours & on Saturdays from 10 30 hrs
to 17 00 hrs and some times continuing IAF fighter training during civil operations also. Dependence on IAF for
various clearances.
3. FACTORS AFFECTING OPERATION OF COMMERCIAL /CONCESSIONAIRES CONTRACTS FOR PASSENGER
FACILITATION.
i) Security
Pune Airport is a major IAF base and categorized as hyper sensitive & mostly on high alert , for meeting
security observations of BCAS,CISF, Police some times frequent /sudden shifting or complete removing AAI
Concessionaires is required
For Starting New Concessionaires /Shops in SHA BCAS Clearance is inordinately delayed/ not given due to
some reasons.
It results in premature cancellation of time bound contract agreements , revenue loss & unnecessary
compensation demands from contractors, arbitration , poor response to future NITs discontent from
passengers and users of airport and fall in ratings of airport.
19
 Initial Delay in handling over location , shifting of location due to modification and expansion of
building , change of passenger flow for decongesting & other reasons.
Concessionaires want monopoly business , rivalry with other similar operators and seek for
maximizing profits , discounts and less serious in fully meeting the time bound performance and
financial terms of Contract Agreements.
Brewing protests & disputes from contractors, indecision and penal actions by AAI affect smooth
conduct of existing contracts , result in poor /no response in future NITs and fall in passenger and
airport rating.
 Loss of revenue & opportunities due non clearing of short term promotional proposals.
4. Maintaining and Improving with in the Available Infrastructure &Facilities thru our own 116 House
keeping staff, Cordial HR ,Proper Prioritization , Participation ,Preventive and Swift Corrective
Action by all the concerned
5. Passenger facilitation and Responding promptly and courteously to their grievances by being
available at the passenger at toilets, SHA & May I Help You Counters. Positioning.
6. Tackling Crisis situations ,Cordial and Tactful Interaction with Press ,Media and Citizens protect
functioning of AAI in specific and over all image of all others associated with airport operations.

  • 19. CONSTRAINTS FACED AT PUNE AIRPORT Pune Airport is the 10 th busiest with 3.4 million annual pax traffic & daily handling 86 aircrafts & 8000 passenger movements round the clock and it has recorded an annual growth of 17 % .it is an IAF controlled Civil Enclave & operating in 26 acres of land only. 1. UN AVAILABILITY OF LAND FOR FURTHER EXPANDING INFRASTRUCTURE on apron side for additional Parking for Aircrafts ,GHA ,Office & Cargo & additional facilities for Passengers in Terminal Building & City side  Housing for Employees of AAI (307)& CISF(316) &offices 2.Restrictions by IAF on civil operations during prime morning and evening hours & on Saturdays from 10 30 hrs to 17 00 hrs and some times continuing IAF fighter training during civil operations also. Dependence on IAF for various clearances. 3. FACTORS AFFECTING OPERATION OF COMMERCIAL /CONCESSIONAIRES CONTRACTS FOR PASSENGER FACILITATION. i) Security Pune Airport is a major IAF base and categorized as hyper sensitive & mostly on high alert , for meeting security observations of BCAS,CISF, Police some times frequent /sudden shifting or complete removing AAI Concessionaires is required For Starting New Concessionaires /Shops in SHA BCAS Clearance is inordinately delayed/ not given due to some reasons. It results in premature cancellation of time bound contract agreements , revenue loss & unnecessary compensation demands from contractors, arbitration , poor response to future NITs discontent from passengers and users of airport and fall in ratings of airport. 19
  • 20.  Initial Delay in handling over location , shifting of location due to modification and expansion of building , change of passenger flow for decongesting & other reasons. Concessionaires want monopoly business , rivalry with other similar operators and seek for maximizing profits , discounts and less serious in fully meeting the time bound performance and financial terms of Contract Agreements. Brewing protests & disputes from contractors, indecision and penal actions by AAI affect smooth conduct of existing contracts , result in poor /no response in future NITs and fall in passenger and airport rating.  Loss of revenue & opportunities due non clearing of short term promotional proposals. 4. Maintaining and Improving with in the Available Infrastructure &Facilities thru our own 116 House keeping staff, Cordial HR ,Proper Prioritization , Participation ,Preventive and Swift Corrective Action by all the concerned 5. Passenger facilitation and Responding promptly and courteously to their grievances by being available at the passenger at toilets, SHA & May I Help You Counters. Positioning. 6. Tackling Crisis situations ,Cordial and Tactful Interaction with Press ,Media and Citizens protect functioning of AAI in specific and over all image of all others associated with airport operations. 20
