Meter data management /1
• Gathers all the meter data;
• Controls them;
• Elaborates them and produces derived data;
• Stores them in a normalized format into a repository from
which they can be retrieved through a standard interface.
• Two service endpoints for data flows:
– FTP Ingestion service;
– Green Button Ingestion service.

Meter data management /2
• FTP server; it’s the server that receives the CSV files from the pilots that code their
meter readings and indoor sensor data in text files and then send them with an
FTP push.
• FTP ingestion service; it’s a process that, with an FTP pull, retrieves the CSV files
and then processes them and finally loads them into the repository.
• GreenButton ingestion; it’s a Green Button feed consumer that reads the data
exposed by the pilots using this technology and then, passing through the CSV
loader, loads the data in the SOS database.
• Meteo ingestion; it a WFS consumer that is scheduled every day. It makes a call to
a WFS weather service, parses the result and loads the forecasts into the SOS
database.
• CSV loader; this component actually loads the meter data into the Sensor DB.
• meter data processing; the component does some elaboration on meter data,
creating aggregated data, doing interpolation and all kind of transformations
needed to normalize the data for the database.
• SOS database; it’s the sensor DB that acts like a repository for all the meter data.

GreenButton advantages 1/2
• It’s a North American standard, but
– the ESPI coding of energy user information can be considered a profile of the IEC
61968-9 2nd edition, and
– there is a road map for publishing GB as an international standard.
• It’s not a mechanism that enables a two-party communication, but a
real publication of data aimed to anyone interested in it.
• Security of data access is guaranteed by means of the most recent
and widespread standard for delegated authorization.
• It is based on widespread international standards like XML and Atom
Pub or de facto standards like OAuth and REST.
• It’s a low costs implementation standard; it offers simple interfaces
and easily will foster the developing of third party Apps.
• It can be applied to all commodities, not only for energy: water,
internet but also air quality data

GreenButton advantages 2/2
Different type of users, has different advantages:
• Public Institution (as Data Custodian)
– publish their own data by means of internal sub-metering systems
– analyze their own data to get savings and check the results of investments in efficiency
– openness and transparency to show the good management policies of the institution
• Residential Customers (as Retail Customers):
– GB provide feedback to completely engage a consumer in an efficiency program.
– Real data time series can be used to achieve a more truthful energy audit for houses,
especially when these audit processes are carried out remotely only on the basis of
papers.
• Software vendors
– Software company can offers product that interface with GB services and leverage on
the energy data availability
– Create value added data
• ESCO and other Energy Efficiency Company
– Offer services for analyze energy data and create new efficiency programs .

  • 5. www.sunshineproject.eu SUNSHINE - Smart UrbaN ServIces for Higher eNergy Efficiency (GA no: 325161) Meter data management /2 • FTP server; it’s the server that receives the CSV files from the pilots that code their meter readings and indoor sensor data in text files and then send them with an FTP push. • FTP ingestion service; it’s a process that, with an FTP pull, retrieves the CSV files and then processes them and finally loads them into the repository. • GreenButton ingestion; it’s a Green Button feed consumer that reads the data exposed by the pilots using this technology and then, passing through the CSV loader, loads the data in the SOS database. • Meteo ingestion; it a WFS consumer that is scheduled every day. It makes a call to a WFS weather service, parses the result and loads the forecasts into the SOS database. • CSV loader; this component actually loads the meter data into the Sensor DB. • meter data processing; the component does some elaboration on meter data, creating aggregated data, doing interpolation and all kind of transformations needed to normalize the data for the database. • SOS database; it’s the sensor DB that acts like a repository for all the meter data.

  • 15. www.sunshineproject.eu SUNSHINE - Smart UrbaN ServIces for Higher eNergy Efficiency (GA no: 325161) GreenButton advantages 1/2 • It’s a North American standard, but – the ESPI coding of energy user information can be considered a profile of the IEC 61968-9 2nd edition, and – there is a road map for publishing GB as an international standard. • It’s not a mechanism that enables a two-party communication, but a real publication of data aimed to anyone interested in it. • Security of data access is guaranteed by means of the most recent and widespread standard for delegated authorization. • It is based on widespread international standards like XML and Atom Pub or de facto standards like OAuth and REST. • It’s a low costs implementation standard; it offers simple interfaces and easily will foster the developing of third party Apps. • It can be applied to all commodities, not only for energy: water, internet but also air quality data
  • 16. www.sunshineproject.eu SUNSHINE - Smart UrbaN ServIces for Higher eNergy Efficiency (GA no: 325161) GreenButton advantages 2/2 Different type of users, has different advantages: • Public Institution (as Data Custodian) – publish their own data by means of internal sub-metering systems – analyze their own data to get savings and check the results of investments in efficiency – openness and transparency to show the good management policies of the institution • Residential Customers (as Retail Customers): – GB provide feedback to completely engage a consumer in an efficiency program. – Real data time series can be used to achieve a more truthful energy audit for houses, especially when these audit processes are carried out remotely only on the basis of papers. • Software vendors – Software company can offers product that interface with GB services and leverage on the energy data availability – Create value added data • ESCO and other Energy Efficiency Company – Offer services for analyze energy data and create new efficiency programs .
