almost all their imports, exports and
transiting goods.

 Area in which a group of countries agrees for mutual free trade

 Tariff may be imposed for the trade with other countries

(NAFTA)
 NAFTA was a trilateral trade agreement between Canada,
Mexico, and the United States.
 NAFTA came into effect on January 1, 1994.
o Goals of NAFTA
i. Eliminate barriers to trade and investment among the
member countries.
ii. Increase market access for businesses and expand
opportunities for workers and consumers.
iii. Boost economic growth and enhance economic efficiency.
iv. Protect intellectual property rights.
v. Establish dispute resolution mechanisms.
vi. Promote cooperation on labor and environmental issues.

(SAFTA)
 SAFTA promote and enhance mutual trade and
economic cooperation among the Contracting States.
SAFTA
 SAARC established in 1985.
 In 1993, SAARC preferential trade agreement was
signed. SAPTA.
 To promote mutual trade and economics.
Cooperation through exchange concession.
 9th, SAARC submit in May, 1997. Decision was
taken convert SAARC into SAFTA.
 SAFTA entry into force on 1st Jan, 2006.
