2. Inappropriate Behaviors
Inappropriate behaviors in a workplace include violence,
sexual harassment, and discrimination.
3. Violence
Workplace violence is any threat or behavior to physical
violence that occurs in the worksite.
Violence includes verbal abuse, such as threats, physical
assault, and even homicide.
Almost 2,000,000 workers in America are reported to
have been victims of workplace violence.
Administrative controls can reduce violence as well as
training programs.
4. Violence
CFOI reported that 14,770 workers were homicide victims
between 1992-2012. There are almost 700 homicides per year.
Out of 154,460 nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses, the
Healthcare and Social Assistance Industry covered 2/3 each
year.
Evaluation of Workplace Violence Prevention Intervention,
Evaluation of California Initiatives to Reduce Violence in
Health Care Settings, Risks for Workplace Violence in Long-
Haul Truckers, Organizational Factors Affecting Police
Victimization, and Spokane Workplace Domestic Violence
Initiative have all been awarded grants from RFA.
5. Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances,
requests for sexual favors, and any other kind of sexually
physical/verbal actions.
It ranges from derogatory words to unwanted received actions,
threats, and assault.
Negative punishments put low-wage jobs in danger because
they can’t afford to have their livelihood threatened.
This can be prevented by adopting a sexual harassment policy.
Establish what sexual harassment is, show there is no tolerance,
and tell about the filing of a complaint and investigations that
will happen.
6. Discrimination
Discrimination is treating or threatening someone because
of their personal traits protected by the law.
There are two different types of discrimination. The first
is direct discrimination. This is when someone makes an
unfair assumption about another because of their
personal characteristics. The other type of discrimination
is indirect discrimination. This occurs when the workplace
treats everyone the same except for one singled out
person because of their personal traits.
