Lesson 4: God’s Promise to Provide For Us
(Genesis 45:11a, 1 Kings 17:1-6)
Key Concepts: God promises to always provide for us. God knows what we need and
He always supplies our need.
Good morning / good afternoon children! Are you ready to learn about Jesus? Alright! Let
us begin:
In the first week, we learnt that God keeps His promise. It means that God will definitely
do what He says He will do.
Then we learnt that God promises to love us always, whether we have been good or bad.
Next, we learnt that God promises to be with us no matter, so we do not need to be lonely
or afraid.
This week, we will learn about God’s promise to always provide for us. What does that
mean? It means that God will always supply us with what we need.
Let us learn from the Bible how God has shown that He will always provide for us:
A long time ago, there was a wicked king of Israel called King Ahab. Now King Ahab did a
lot of evil things and did not worship God. Instead, he worshipped other false gods and
made God angry.
In the same time, there lived a prophet named Elijah who loved God and listened to God.
A prophet is a person chosen to speak for God and to guide the people of Israel.
One day, prophet Elijah went to King Ahab to tell him a message:
quot;As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in
the next few years except at my word.quot;
This means, there will not even be a drop of rain from the sky for the next few years
until Elijah says so at God’s command.
Oh no! Children, can you imagine what it would be like with no water to drink for a long
long time? No Ribena? You would be very thirsty wouldn’t you?
But Elijah did not need to worry about that, because God promises to always provide for
us.

2. God told Elijah to go to the east and hide by a brook near the Jordan River. A brook is a
small stream of fresh water. God knew that wicked King Ahab would become very angry
with Elijah and would try to find him to do him harm.
Now Elijah would have good water to drink from the brook but what would he do for
food? God knew Elijah would need food and already had a plan. God told Elijah that the
ravens would come every day to feed him. Ravens are big black birds with a croaking cry.
(Teacher to imitate the flapping action of a bird’s wings and imitate the sounds of a raven
if possible ) It surely sounded strange, but Elijah believed God. He knew God would
provide for all his needs so he did exactly what God told him. He turned east and went to
the brook. There, he settled down on the soft grass to rest for the night.
When morning came, Elijah was pretty hungry. He was ready for breakfast. He heard the
sound of flapping wings above his head and looked up. There it was! The raven! It had
something in its mouth! The raven brought bread and meat and dropped it right beside
Elijah. The ravens brought him two meals every day, in the morning and in the evening,
just as God had promised.
So children, do you see that God is faithful and keeps His promise to always provide for
us? God knows what we need and He always supplies our need. It means we will never lack
anything. God will give us everything we need.
For example, God knows you need a soft bed to sleep at night, milk to drink to grow up
strong, toys to play with, and God has provided all that for you. God also provided you
with mummy and daddy who love you so much and kakak who takes care of you. Most
importantly, God provided Jesus who loves you so much. Aren’t you thankful to God?
The Bible tells us that God says: “I will provide for you….” Genesis 45:11a. Isn’t that
wonderful promise from God? Let us now try to memorise what God says: “I will provide
for you….” Genesis 45:11a.
Very good! Let’s close our eyes and talk to Jesus.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for promising to provide for us always. Thank you for
everything You have given us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
