As per given famous case study of designing the layout for a warehouse based on given constraint like limited volume space availability, budget, shelf space etc
2. Problem Statement
Warehouse Layout Exercise
• Design the best layout of a single-
storied warehouse having following
data:
• Area – 1, 000 sq ft (40’ × 25’)
• Warehouse Height - 12’
• Price of Racks – Length × Depth ×
Height
• 6’ × 4’ × 8’ - Rs. 6, 700 - 192 Cu ft
• 6’ × 4’ × 6’ – Rs. 5, 500 - 144 Cu ft
• 6’ × 3’ × 8’ – Rs. 5, 000 - 144 Cu ft
• 6’ × 3’ × 6’ – Rs. 4, 000 - 108 Cu ft
• Cost of Trolley – Rs. 6, 000
• Leave 30 % area for movement of
goods, men and equipment
• Minimum aisle width of 2’ is required for movement
without trolley and Ladder and 3’ if trolley and ladder is
used
• If racks with height 8’ are used the material handling
equipment cost will be an additional Rs. 6, 000 for a step
ladder (2’ step stools)
• Without the racks the height utilization is 4.5’
• Space cost to be assumed Rs. 1, 000 / Sq Ft
• 10. Total volume to be fitted in the warehouse is 4, 200
Cu Ft
• Draw a rough layout of the warehouse making provisions
for
1. Toilet
2. Office
3. Staging area
4. Emergency exits
3. Warehouse layout
Dimensional Details
• Warehouse Area = (25*40) feet =
1000 Sq feet.
• Dimensions of Racks: Height - 8’,
Depth - 4’ & Length - 6’;
• No. of Racks= 22;
• Aisles: 2 Nos.
• (Width of Aisles= 3’ & 6’)
• Volume for Storage= 22(8*4*6)=
4,200 Cu ft;
• Storage Area = 6×4×22 = 528 Sq
ft,
• Main door =9 ft *8 ft;
• Staging area = 14×5 = 70 Sq ft;
• Office=10’×4’;
• Toilet = 4’×4’= 16 Sq ft;
• Scrap Bin= 4’×4’ = 16 Sq ft.
