Introduction
This Insights Discovery profile is based on Rufat Abdullayev’s responses to the Insights
Preference Evaluator which was completed on 02 December 2015.
The origins of personality theory can be traced back to the fifth century BC, when Hippocrates
identified four distinct energies exhibited by different people. The Insights System is built around
the model of personality first identified by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. This model
was published in his 1921 work “Psychological Types” and developed in subsequent writings.
Jung’s work on personality and preferences has since been adopted as the seminal work in
understanding personality and has been the subject of study for thousands of researchers to the
present day.
Using Jung's typology, this Insights Discovery profile offers a framework for self-understanding
and development. Research suggests that a good understanding of self, both strengths and
weaknesses, enables individuals to develop effective strategies for interaction and can help them
to better respond to the demands of their environment.
Generated from several hundred thousand permutations of statements, this profile is unique. It
reports statements which your Evaluator responses indicate may apply to you. Modify or delete
any statement which does not apply, but only after checking with colleagues or friends to identify
whether the statement may be a “blind spot” for you.
Use this profile pro-actively. That is, identify the key areas in which you can develop and take
action. Share the important aspects with friends and colleagues. Ask for feedback from them on
areas which seem particularly relevant for you and develop an action plan for growth personally
and interpersonally.

Overview
These statements provide a broad understanding of Rufat’s work style. Use this section to gain a
better understanding of his approaches to his activities, relationships and decisions.
Personal Style
Gifted in natural marketing and selling, Rufat needs work that challenges him and holds his
attention. He is aggressive, competitive, ambitious and seeks to win. He likes to have control of
most situations and can speak out clearly and forcibly when he sees the need to do so. He can
be quite inventive and somewhat ruthless when something or someone is obstructing him. A
robust, direct and keen strategist, Rufat sees possibilities in every situation and can act quickly
on those possibilities.
Learning is a life-long process for him and he is in favour of anything which will increase his
mental capability. He often pushes others as hard as he pushes himself and tends to be a
challenging adversary. He is a good initiator of new projects, though he may fail to persevere
with the details. Hard work, busy schedules and merit-based remuneration are hallmarks of the
way Rufat prefers to work. At his best, he is responsible, industrious, decisive and energetic.
He needs excitement and variety or he may lose interest in carrying projects through to
completion. He may increase his effectiveness by allowing himself to seek and take assistance
from others. Sociability, combined with a solid work ethic can result in the setting of high
performance standards in both himself and the others who work or interact with him. Rufat's
interest, enthusiasm and energy levels are high. He will dismiss negatives, being eager to
accomplish the task. At work he often makes significantly more starts than finishes and he may
need someone else to follow through with the details.
Once a desired objective is fixed in his mind, he moves into action without procrastinating. Rufat
conveys a fast pace to his peers and above all, enjoys a challenge. He enjoys work that allows
him to get his teeth into new projects. Rufat likes to make things happen and drive everything
around him. The opinions of others are not always important to him particularly if they conflict
with his own opinions, to which he may become emotionally attached.
Whenever he is asked to assume responsibility, his desire for control leads him to want to say
“Yes”. Details and the deeper interpersonal skills are not his strong points as he is mainly
interested in seeing the possibilities beyond the present. Keeping in touch with his emotions,
standing outside of them when necessary rather than allowing them to take over, helps him to
stay more fully in control of a situation. He is a natural manager and finds himself in command
through his ability to plan and keep both long and short-term objectives clearly in mind. He aims
to live by his rules and believes that everyone else should do too!
Interacting with Others
Because of his apparent work focus, other people may be surprised to discover that Rufat is
quite devoted to his family and friends. His communication style is honest, direct and to the point
and he prefers others to be similarly candid with him. Although Rufat may protest about the
pressure of attending family events, it would seldom occur to him not to be present, as these
occasions are important to him. Very much a positive team player, he enjoys the support of most

people, although he may become too optimistic about what others will produce and is let down
occasionally as a consequence. Rufat is not slow to help people come together to negotiate
solutions if a project needs this.
He likes to lead rather than manage, is normally fair but demanding and will not always be willing
to accept change without first knowing why. He is a good innovator, negotiator, and manager.
Seen by most people as outgoing, flexible and fearless, Rufat can rise to meet any challenge.
Being respected by his peers is of greater importance to Rufat than being liked. He requires
continual change in order to avoid becoming bored, and is rather power and status conscious.
Rufat can turn his talents to many jobs, but finds more satisfaction from work that allows him to
use his creativity and interpersonal skills. His outgoing nature may lead him to misinterpret the
significance of some issues. He should first listen to the input of those around him and express
appreciation for every contribution, rather than automatically being critical of negative feedback.
He needs to make a special effort to remain open to the ideas and views of others, and avoid
shutting other people down. Rufat is alert to changing situations and will act quickly to get results,
giving direction or instructions to others as he thinks is necessary.
Decision Making
Rufat is seen by many as a natural leader and decision maker. He tends to be influenced by the
idea, rather than the people behind the idea. He enjoys the executive role and usually rises to
challenges although he needs someone around with enough common sense to bring up
overlooked facts and take care of important details. He is more interested in the future
consequences of his actions than in the present condition of people or projects. His desire to get
things done quickly drives him to implement decisions as soon as they are made rather than first
seeking to double check the facts before implementation.
He needs to learn to consciously delay making decisions until he has considered more
information as he may have overlooked sounder alternatives. Rufat finds problems stimulating
and is ingenious in tackling complex situations. He is driven to think up many alternatives for a
project or system due to his ability to constantly see the big picture. Owing to his desire to move
on to the next challenge or toward the larger goal, he often makes decisions too hastily. He
values truth above all else and is primarily convinced by logical reasoning. He has a tendency
towards making higher risk decisions.
Politically aware, Rufat is normally comfortable with his decisions even in the face of possible
conflict with others in more senior positions. As an extraverted, future oriented person, he may
fear failure but knows how to turn it on its head into something positive, if the event occurs. He is
a good problem solver because he can absorb necessary factual information and find logical and
sensible solutions quickly. Rufat's tendency to think “out loud” enables others to follow his line of
thinking. Others may see his decisions as unrealistic in certain circumstances.

Possible Blind Spots
Our perceptions of self may be different to the perceptions others have of us. We project who we
are onto the outside world through our “persona” and are not always aware of the effect our less
conscious behaviours have on others. These less conscious behaviours are termed “Blind
Spots”. Highlight the important statements in this section of which you are unaware and test them
for validity by asking for feedback from friends or colleagues.
Rufat’s possible Blind Spots:
Rufat may unconsciously seek material dominance, social standing and status. Perhaps best
thought of as one of life's natural organisers, he is practical, strong willed and needs to get his
own way or he may become rebellious. He may have to give up some of the control he
constantly seeks and, rather than seeing things only in black and white, learn to see the grey
areas in life and become more adaptable.
His natural quickness and pressure to anticipate what is coming means he occasionally assumes
wrongly that he knows what a person is going to say, and is tempted to jump in to finish their
sentences. He runs the risk of deciding too quickly and should first stop and listen to the views of
others before barging ahead. He could learn to protect himself against closed-mindedness by
waiting a few seconds more before speaking, giving others the chance to offer input. He is seen
to perform better when he reins in his boldness, energy and enjoyment of being in control to a
level where other people take priority. Very much a “head” person, he has little real appreciation
of just how much some of his decisions may offend some people.
He dislikes disorganisation, tardiness, sloppiness or inappropriate behaviour in both self and
others and can sometimes generate an intensity inappropriate to the situation. He may exert
pressure on others to do the “right thing” from a moral standpoint - but the “right thing” comes
from his perception. While appreciative of good work, critical glances may reveal Rufat's
impatience with errors or poorer quality output. He may need to slow down to consider the
feelings of others even if he doesn't share them. He sometimes has difficulty in absorbing other
peoples' points of view.

Opposite Type
The description in this section is based on Rufat's opposite type on the Insights Wheel. Often, we
have most difficulty understanding and interacting with those whose preferences are different to
our own. Recognising these characteristics can help in developing strategies for personal growth
and enhanced interpersonal effectiveness.
Recognising your Opposite Type:
Rufat’s opposite Insights type is the Supporter, Jung’s “Introverted Feeling” type.
Supporters are affable, amiable, steady, loyal individuals who get on well with others. They build
a close relationship with a small group of associates in the work environment. Rufat will see the
Supporter’s efforts being directed at retaining the familiar and predictable. Supporters look for
constant appreciation from others and may be slow to adapt to change. They will often go the
“extra mile” to help someone they consider as a friend.
Rufat may suspect the Supporter requires assistance in eliminating the old and embracing the
new. Supporters are cautious, conventional, diplomatic and sincere and may avoid decision
making until many of the facts and details are available to them. The Supporter is intent on
maintaining a low profile. In order to perform well, the Supporter needs specific and detailed
instructions before starting a job.
Rufat will experience frustration when the Supporter, if challenged, becomes stubborn and
defiant. Supporters are easy going and low key people and like to feel needed and significant in
other peoples’ lives. Even if a mistake has been made by someone else the Supporter may
spend a lot of time sympathising and attempting to diffuse responsibility. Disagreements or
opposing views can be stressful to Supporters. If the conflict in the workplace becomes too great
they may become restless and uneasy, often withdrawing to avoid further conflict.

● Praise quietly and sincerely - be open and honest.

● “Tell”, instruct or command.
● Comment on his personal appearance.
● Implement change for change's sake.

  • 4. Rufat Abdullayev © The Insights Group Ltd, 1992-2016. All rights reserved. Page 4 Introduction This Insights Discovery profile is based on Rufat Abdullayev’s responses to the Insights Preference Evaluator which was completed on 02 December 2015. The origins of personality theory can be traced back to the fifth century BC, when Hippocrates identified four distinct energies exhibited by different people. The Insights System is built around the model of personality first identified by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. This model was published in his 1921 work “Psychological Types” and developed in subsequent writings. Jung’s work on personality and preferences has since been adopted as the seminal work in understanding personality and has been the subject of study for thousands of researchers to the present day. Using Jung's typology, this Insights Discovery profile offers a framework for self-understanding and development. Research suggests that a good understanding of self, both strengths and weaknesses, enables individuals to develop effective strategies for interaction and can help them to better respond to the demands of their environment. • 5. Rufat Abdullayev © The Insights Group Ltd, 1992-2016. All rights reserved. Page 5 Overview These statements provide a broad understanding of Rufat’s work style. Use this section to gain a better understanding of his approaches to his activities, relationships and decisions. Personal Style Gifted in natural marketing and selling, Rufat needs work that challenges him and holds his attention. He is aggressive, competitive, ambitious and seeks to win. He likes to have control of most situations and can speak out clearly and forcibly when he sees the need to do so. He can be quite inventive and somewhat ruthless when something or someone is obstructing him. A robust, direct and keen strategist, Rufat sees possibilities in every situation and can act quickly on those possibilities. Learning is a life-long process for him and he is in favour of anything which will increase his mental capability. He often pushes others as hard as he pushes himself and tends to be a challenging adversary. He is a good initiator of new projects, though he may fail to persevere with the details. Hard work, busy schedules and merit-based remuneration are hallmarks of the way Rufat prefers to work. At his best, he is responsible, industrious, decisive and energetic. He needs excitement and variety or he may lose interest in carrying projects through to completion. He may increase his effectiveness by allowing himself to seek and take assistance from others. Sociability, combined with a solid work ethic can result in the setting of high performance standards in both himself and the others who work or interact with him. Rufat's interest, enthusiasm and energy levels are high. He will dismiss negatives, being eager to accomplish the task. At work he often makes significantly more starts than finishes and he may need someone else to follow through with the details. Once a desired objective is fixed in his mind, he moves into action without procrastinating. Rufat conveys a fast pace to his peers and above all, enjoys a challenge. He enjoys work that allows him to get his teeth into new projects. Rufat likes to make things happen and drive everything around him. The opinions of others are not always important to him particularly if they conflict with his own opinions, to which he may become emotionally attached. Whenever he is asked to assume responsibility, his desire for control leads him to want to say “Yes”. Details and the deeper interpersonal skills are not his strong points as he is mainly interested in seeing the possibilities beyond the present. Keeping in touch with his emotions, standing outside of them when necessary rather than allowing them to take over, helps him to stay more fully in control of a situation. He is a natural manager and finds himself in command through his ability to plan and keep both long and short-term objectives clearly in mind. He aims to live by his rules and believes that everyone else should do too! Interacting with Others Because of his apparent work focus, other people may be surprised to discover that Rufat is quite devoted to his family and friends. His communication style is honest, direct and to the point and he prefers others to be similarly candid with him. Although Rufat may protest about the pressure of attending family events, it would seldom occur to him not to be present, as these occasions are important to him. Very much a positive team player, he enjoys the support of most

Page 6 people, although he may become too optimistic about what others will produce and is let down occasionally as a consequence. Rufat is not slow to help people come together to negotiate solutions if a project needs this. He likes to lead rather than manage, is normally fair but demanding and will not always be willing to accept change without first knowing why. He is a good innovator, negotiator, and manager. Seen by most people as outgoing, flexible and fearless, Rufat can rise to meet any challenge. Being respected by his peers is of greater importance to Rufat than being liked. He requires continual change in order to avoid becoming bored, and is rather power and status conscious. Rufat can turn his talents to many jobs, but finds more satisfaction from work that allows him to use his creativity and interpersonal skills. His outgoing nature may lead him to misinterpret the significance of some issues. He should first listen to the input of those around him and express appreciation for every contribution, rather than automatically being critical of negative feedback. He needs to make a special effort to remain open to the ideas and views of others, and avoid shutting other people down. Rufat is alert to changing situations and will act quickly to get results, giving direction or instructions to others as he thinks is necessary. Decision Making Rufat is seen by many as a natural leader and decision maker. He tends to be influenced by the idea, rather than the people behind the idea. He enjoys the executive role and usually rises to challenges although he needs someone around with enough common sense to bring up overlooked facts and take care of important details. He is more interested in the future consequences of his actions than in the present condition of people or projects. His desire to get things done quickly drives him to implement decisions as soon as they are made rather than first seeking to double check the facts before implementation. He needs to learn to consciously delay making decisions until he has considered more information as he may have overlooked sounder alternatives. Rufat finds problems stimulating and is ingenious in tackling complex situations. He is driven to think up many alternatives for a project or system due to his ability to constantly see the big picture. Owing to his desire to move on to the next challenge or toward the larger goal, he often makes decisions too hastily. He values truth above all else and is primarily convinced by logical reasoning. He has a tendency towards making higher risk decisions. Politically aware, Rufat is normally comfortable with his decisions even in the face of possible conflict with others in more senior positions. As an extraverted, future oriented person, he may fear failure but knows how to turn it on its head into something positive, if the event occurs. He is a good problem solver because he can absorb necessary factual information and find logical and sensible solutions quickly. Rufat's tendency to think “out loud” enables others to follow his line of thinking. Others may see his decisions as unrealistic in certain circumstances. Personal Notes

We project who we are onto the outside world through our “persona” and are not always aware of the effect our less conscious behaviours have on others. These less conscious behaviours are termed “Blind Spots”. Highlight the important statements in this section of which you are unaware and test them for validity by asking for feedback from friends or colleagues. Rufat’s possible Blind Spots: Rufat may unconsciously seek material dominance, social standing and status. Perhaps best thought of as one of life's natural organisers, he is practical, strong willed and needs to get his own way or he may become rebellious. He may have to give up some of the control he constantly seeks and, rather than seeing things only in black and white, learn to see the grey areas in life and become more adaptable. His natural quickness and pressure to anticipate what is coming means he occasionally assumes wrongly that he knows what a person is going to say, and is tempted to jump in to finish their sentences. He runs the risk of deciding too quickly and should first stop and listen to the views of others before barging ahead. He could learn to protect himself against closed-mindedness by waiting a few seconds more before speaking, giving others the chance to offer input. He is seen to perform better when he reins in his boldness, energy and enjoyment of being in control to a level where other people take priority. Very much a “head” person, he has little real appreciation of just how much some of his decisions may offend some people. He dislikes disorganisation, tardiness, sloppiness or inappropriate behaviour in both self and others and can sometimes generate an intensity inappropriate to the situation. He may exert pressure on others to do the “right thing” from a moral standpoint - but the “right thing” comes from his perception. While appreciative of good work, critical glances may reveal Rufat's impatience with errors or poorer quality output. He may need to slow down to consider the feelings of others even if he doesn't share them. He sometimes has difficulty in absorbing other peoples' points of view. Personal Notes

Often, we have most difficulty understanding and interacting with those whose preferences are different to our own. Recognising these characteristics can help in developing strategies for personal growth and enhanced interpersonal effectiveness. Recognising your Opposite Type: Rufat’s opposite Insights type is the Supporter, Jung’s “Introverted Feeling” type. Supporters are affable, amiable, steady, loyal individuals who get on well with others. They build a close relationship with a small group of associates in the work environment. Rufat will see the Supporter’s efforts being directed at retaining the familiar and predictable. Supporters look for constant appreciation from others and may be slow to adapt to change. They will often go the “extra mile” to help someone they consider as a friend. Rufat may suspect the Supporter requires assistance in eliminating the old and embracing the new. Supporters are cautious, conventional, diplomatic and sincere and may avoid decision making until many of the facts and details are available to them. The Supporter is intent on maintaining a low profile. In order to perform well, the Supporter needs specific and detailed instructions before starting a job. Rufat will experience frustration when the Supporter, if challenged, becomes stubborn and defiant. Supporters are easy going and low key people and like to feel needed and significant in other peoples’ lives. Even if a mistake has been made by someone else the Supporter may spend a lot of time sympathising and attempting to diffuse responsibility. Disagreements or opposing views can be stressful to Supporters. If the conflict in the workplace becomes too great they may become restless and uneasy, often withdrawing to avoid further conflict.
