• THE STUDENT IS LIVING IN 2-4 FAMILIES
• CLOSELY RELATED TO A ROTARY CLUB AND THE YEO – IT’S A
GREAT NETWORK

We have 3 distinct groups to promote to
• Rotarians and their clubs
• Potential Outbound
Students
• Potential Host families
MOST EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES TO REACH ROTARIANS
-Foster club participation and then Gain Enthusiastic support
-Get help from District folks---Governor, Assistant Governors
-In many Districts only 50% of the clubs are involved.
How?
• Train and develop Rotarians
• Develop & leverage a Public Relations Plan
• Two clubs can share one student
• Invite students and Youth Exchange Officiers of clubs who
have student to do programs at
clubs not involved.

• The successful recruitment of qualified host
families is a constant, ongoing process.
• It is not a once or twice a year effort.
• Need to define goals, develop methods, and
commit the necessary resources and time to
meet the goals.
HOST FAMILIES
• Contact past host families
• Involve alumni students – ask for names
• Can Rotarians recommend a family
• Encourage Rotarians to host a student
• Contact teachers, sport leaders, relatives
etc.
• Outbound student families—will they host?
• Make host families feel special so they will
want to do it again.

  • 3. • We are the premier worldwide service organization OUR PROGRAM IS : • ECONOMICAL, WELL ORGANIZED, BASED ON VOLUNTEER WORK • SAFE AND SECURE • THE STUDENT IS LIVING IN 2-4 FAMILIES • CLOSELY RELATED TO A ROTARY CLUB AND THE YEO – IT’S A GREAT NETWORK • WE HAVE RULES AND REGULATIONS • THE ROTARY YE PROGRAM HAS SEVERAL ADVANTAGES COMPARED TO COMPETING ALTERNATIVES So why do we need to promote our program….
  • 4. TELL THE ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE STORY ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO TELL THEIR RYE STORY ! • LET PEOPLE KNOW WHY THEY LOVE THE PROGRAM • HOW IT HAS CHANGED THEIR LIFE Rotary Youth Exchange ALUMNI ARE OUR BEST PR AGENTS!
  • 5. We have 3 distinct groups to promote to • Rotarians and their clubs • Potential Outbound Students • Potential Host families
  • 6. MOST EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES TO REACH ROTARIANS -Foster club participation and then Gain Enthusiastic support -Get help from District folks---Governor, Assistant Governors -In many Districts only 50% of the clubs are involved. How? • Train and develop Rotarians • Develop & leverage a Public Relations Plan • Two clubs can share one student • Invite students and Youth Exchange Officiers of clubs who have student to do programs at clubs not involved.

  • 10. MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO REACH POTENTIAL HOST FAMILIES • Network/Communicate • Utilize Local Media • Contact former families • Contact school officials • Encourage Rotarians to host. • Contact local churches, organizations • Contact former Outbound Families
  • 11. Recruitment of Host Families • The successful recruitment of qualified host families is a constant, ongoing process. • It is not a once or twice a year effort. • Need to define goals, develop methods, and commit the necessary resources and time to meet the goals.
  • 12. HOST FAMILIES • Contact past host families • Involve alumni students – ask for names • Can Rotarians recommend a family • Encourage Rotarians to host a student • Contact teachers, sport leaders, relatives etc. • Outbound student families—will they host? • Make host families feel special so they will want to do it again.
  • 13. The most effective ways to reach people is by Telling your Rotary Story Once you have a marketing plan and you know who you need to target… • How do you tell your Rotary Story? • People love to hear stories—what are the important components of your story?
  • 14. Telling Your StorY… The key to story-telling is understanding that values inspire action through emotion.
