Automation helps humans automate certain tasks that can save time and
result in efficient & productive outcomes. Hyper-automation deals with
the use of advanced technologies like machine learning and artificial
intelligence to increasingly automate the processes, and involves a
combination of tools, including robotic process automation (RPA),
intelligent business management software (iBPMS) and AI, with a goal of
increasingly AI-driven decision making.However, hyper-automation

#1: Hyper-automation

According to Gartner, ‘multi-experience is about designing
and developing seamless and effortless experiences across
apps, digital touchpoints, and interaction modalities’.
Currently, multi experience focuses on immersive
experiences that use augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed
reality, multichannel human-machine interfaces, and sensing
technologies, but in the future, it is expected to become
‘ambient experience’.

Democratisation of technology provides the users with easy
access to technical or business expertise without extensive
training. Often referred to as ‘citizen access’, it focuses on
four key areas, viz., application development, data, and

#3: Democratisation of technology

Gartner describes human augmentation as ‘the use of
technology to enhance a person’s cognitive and physical
experiences’. While physical augmentation refers to the
technology (such as wearables) that can change the
inherent capability of the human body, cognitive
augmentation refers to technology that can enhance a
human being’s ability to think and make better decisions.

Evolving technology has led to the generation of a huge amount of
data, which includes information of the users as well. The
technological advancements have led to a trust crisis, paving way
for rules and regulations, and legislation like GDPR, to be

According to Gartner, ‘this trend requires a focus on six key
elements of trust: Ethics, integrity, openness, accountability,

According to IBM, ‘edge computing brings enterprise applications
closer to where the data is produced – either by IoT devices or local
edge servers – and actions need to be taken’.
Brian Burke, research vice president at Gartner says, “edge computing
will become a dominant factor across virtually all industries and use
cases as the edge is empowered with increasingly more sophisticated
and specialised compute resources, and more data storage. Complex
edge devices, including robots, drones, autonomous vehicles, and
operational systems will accelerate this shift.”

The centralised public cloud is on the way to evolution to a
distributed public cloud, marking the beginning of a new era
in cloud computing. According to Gartner, ‘a distributed cloud
is the distribution of public cloud services to different
locations while the originating public cloud provider assumes
responsibility for the operation, governance, updates to and
evolution of the services’.

Autonomous things refer to physical devices like drones, robots,
ships, and appliances, which use artificial intelligence to automate
functions or tasks, usually performed by humans. Autonomous
things are predicted to be increasingly deployed in uncontrolled
public spaces, with the evolving technology, resulting in growing
social acceptance and an increase in regulation permits.
