Online tutors have a great deal of tasks. In a
very concise way, and based on the What
does a facilitator of an online learning
trajectory do? text, I will list 5 of them. Those
are items that have caught my attention
• Be there, interact
• Give feedback/immediacy
• Build a sense of presence
• Be ready to go the extra mile, work long
hours
AND, FINALLY …
• Don’t get discouraged!
Be social, establish connections
Monitor progress
Establish a sense of presence and rapport. Yes,
we can establish rapport online!!
It’s for a good cause though!
Online students may act as lurkers and not engage as
actively as we would like ... We have to find strategies to
avoid that, which might be not so easy. Or not?
I think this quote represents more or less how I
am feeling:
“It's always funny to see that people who are
experienced facilitators face-to-face are so
scared for an online process. And then
suddenly they see they can use the same
basic facilitation skills online.”
