140 million people Volunteer each year
That’s the equivalent of 20.8 million full time paid workers
A conservative estimate suggests these volunteers make up $400 million in global GDP
Building
Providing Education
Improving Health
Providing Sustainability Programs
Personal Development and Lifestyle Training
Address Gender Equality
Events, Fundraising and Marketing
Campaigns Providing Equipment
Research Volunteers (E.g. Geology field volunteers Etc.)
Reduce Workload for all Good Causes
Increase number of new projects and add more value to existing
Increase funding for good causes
Increase Hands On and Virtual volunteering globally
Make it easier for volunteers to find opportunities
Give more information to volunteers
Increase transparency of donations
More power for Non Profits to leave a lasting Legacy.
Provide platform for Virtual Training and Education Programs
Help grow skill base in developing countries
Help individuals use new skills to start up new businesses
No integral platform for Non Profits
Singular Website SEO makes them difficult to find
Some databases exist giving them space with no interaction
Some websites exist to list projects and are still only a databases with no interaction
Middle men volunteer organisations do not support grass root non profits
Over half their working week is spent finding volunteers and funding.
Limited on time to look for the right skills and take what comes along.
Reducing time = more productivity and more projects
Getting Volunteers:
Advertising position
Receiving applications
Vetting Skills
Managing
Training and Orientation
Getting Funding:
Multiple sources - Major Donors, Individual Donors, Campaigns, Local Fundraising Events and online via social media
No consistent donators
Time consuming applications
Many rejections
Other help:
Web Design and Updating,
Data Entry and Marketing
Translation
Legal or Accountancy
Promoting the organisation via Website, Social Media or Blogging
Needs:
Large funding deficits occurred after credit crunch mainly from 2008 and 2009 when the global financial crisis hit and set in but only marginal improvements in the years since.
All NPOs always need funds to do the great work they do.
Their backers can come and go leaving it a constant task to generate more income
Crowd Funding Statistics
Extremely trendy way fund projects, an estimated number of crowd funding platforms in 2012 was 536
Estimated volume of funds raised in 2012 was $2.7b and expected to be up to $5.1b in 2013
The Social Causes category is the largest category and represents 30% of the total market.
The donation social causes category has seen the smallest growth at 43%.
Conclusions
The platform will give all NGOs, NPOs and Charities a stronger voice and a new revenue stream in the form of a trendy way to raise funds that´s less time consuming always there.
Spend more time on Identification, Making the project, legitimacy, and evaluation. Looking for new partnerships and Strategic Planning.
The result is they will be more efficient and focussed on doing more of the good work they set out to do (More Projects). They currently spend more of their time administrating.
Administration and looking for fundraising is incredibly time consuming

Work with the local community and Identify the need
In this example a school needs skills in General Structure, Solar Power, Electrician and Plumbing
Project profile is raised and volunteers skills in their profile are matched.
The Local NPO identifies locals who want to learn new skills. The locals work alongside the skilled volunteers and learn new skills.
Once the project is completed The NPO works out a continued learning program for the locals wanting to learn.
The local gets to a level where he can start his own Building, Solar Power, Electrician or plumbing business and with the help of the NGO can go and look for start up business crowd funding via the platform.
The school is built and needs teachers.
Volunteer teachers in multiple fields can be raised as a new project in the platform and organised to coincide with the completion of the school.
Decrease time spent looking for, vetting and managing volunteers
Decrease the time spent looking for funding
Increase Donations
Reduce the need to go looking for other forms of help
Reduce on site training and orientation
Stop the need to use multiple online sources for all the above tasks
Reduce the fact people can’t find their singular site by increasing SEO
No Centralised place for volunteers to use
Its very time consuming to find anything online
A large amount of websites to join, money to pay, applications to complete and still not find anything.
Middle men organisations can charge large fees with not even a third going to the Non Profit itself.
25% of volunteers end up “giving up” and not volunteering because it´s so time consuming and difficult.
85% of potential volunteers feel the whole process of volunteering should be easier.
Very time consuming process
Google searches throw up a massive amount of information which is not always relevant
Good cause websites are scattered across many pages and are often far down the SEO list
It´s necessary to pay companies for the use of their websites which are really just databases
Middle men organisations can charge up to $1,000 or more per week so exclusive unless your rich putting people off
The whole process is time consuming and expensive and often results in people giving up when their intentions were good
People join and pay for access to 4 or more websites not always giving them results
Conclusions
One clear conclusion there is a massive need for a “One Stop Shop” for anyone who wants to volunteer their Skills, Time, Energy or Money to good causes.
No one should ever give up because the technology is not good enough to make it easy.
Create a Useable Platform - Give Volunteers a usable platform and a “One Stop Shop”
Global opportunities matched to their skills – Cross Referencing searching (Job matching/dating websites)
Non Profit ranking so they know what they’re getting into – Trip Advisor
Messaging Facility - Allows them to communicate with past volunteers (Facebook)
Follow a Non Profit or project of interest - Twitter
Up front information to know what's expected and start on arrival – Uploaded information such as training and orientation to reduce time for non profits on volunteers arrival
Ongoing Contact - Allow them to still be in touch with and a part of the organisation once the projects completed
Build Platform
Use Existing technologies and what third party API’s could be leveraged. Combination of Social Media, Profile Databases, Project Databases, Skill Matching and Secure donating
Attract Users and Market
Create Video, Viral advertising, Get Non Profits to sign up and start raising projects. Get Volunteers to complete profiles. Match
Create Project Donation section
Use the space created for the projects to have essentially a crowdfunding section to increase funding and projects
Platform Development
Develop professional Virtual Volunteers network, Classrooms using Skype and Google Hangouts. Resources Centre – Information of interest to Non Profits like LinkedIn professional magazines to members. Have a feedback option, listen to users and create the one stop shop. Develop apps and ability to connect to other existing platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Vision and Achieve Goal
Create a platform that has similarities to LinkedIn but for good causes. Also use Skype to develop more depth to the offer
I would love to turn round and say this platform was built by Volunteers for Volunteers
But I can’t do that without technical help
The idea is fully down on paper
I would love the first volunteers to be you
It would be my pleasure to put your names on the platform and credit you all as the architects forever
In a competitive tech market, this could be something of significant value to have on your CV/Resume and help you stand out
