This document discusses taking risks and acting instead of dwelling on "what ifs". It encourages the reader to reflect on past opportunities and risks not taken. Using what ifs can prevent living fully if taken too far. The document advocates taking calculated risks going forward by pursuing goals and challenges instead of worrying about possible outcomes. It aims to prevent readers regretting not taking chances later in life and encourages participating in a 30 day challenge to act instead.
2. What If
Welcome to this chapter.
In the previous two chapters (depending if you read everything in order) I talked about
time management.
I talked about procrastination and the title of this chapter is what if?
Have you ever thought, what if I had done something, how my life would have
changed?
What if I had left the office 10 minutes early or 10 minutes later? How could my life have
changed?
One of the problems with what if is that it will eat you up inside.
What if I'd gone for that job?
What if I had asked that girl or guy out what if I had gone to the party? What would have
happened?
If you use what if too much and you don't live a full life, what happens is you're going to
think in 10, 15 years' time, what if I had done this or that?
I guess one of the hardest challenges that I ever had was back in 2011 when I applied
for a job in Barcelona for a training position in Barcelona with an international company.
And I thought, what if I do this? What if I get the job?
Those thoughts nearly pushed me away from actually applying for the job, but I did
apply for the job. I did get the job and I did move and it was a perfect move because I
traveled the world with this company and I met many great people and I learned a lot
about life and different cultures and I was happy.
But then I started to think, what if I had stayed in Ireland?
Would my daughter be different?

3. What If
Would my relationship with my daughter be different?
What if I had stayed? Would I be happier? Would I be sad?
What if I had decided, well, I'll go to Barcelona for three years and then I returned to our
lives. What if I. What if I got a transfer back to Ireland? The problem is we can't live with
what if. If it's a strong enough desire, you need to do it. You need to take the chance.
You procrastinate and say, well, "I won't do it," but you have to be responsible for your
actions because you need to take responsibility and say, "okay, I'm going to do this. I'm
going to go. I'm going to make that move."
"I'm going to go."
"I'm going to make that phone call. I'm not going to think what if I. What if this happens?
What if the other thing happens? What if the next thing happens?"
You see a lot of the times what we fear actually never happens, so I want you to think
about that. I want you to reflect a little bit, but not too much!, about all the what ifs
you've had in your life and you've thought, what if I had done that? What if I'd done
this? You didn't.
You're in the right place right now on you're on the right path, and from this point
forward, you are going to take the calculated risks.
We're going to do what you want on. You're not going to be afraid because you don't
want to look back in your life in 10 years time and say, well, what if I'd actually listened
to Richard? What if I'd actually done the 30 day challenge? What if I'd actually written at
goals and tried to pursue them? I want you to do it.
