Personal Statement work 2.pptx

  1. 1. Personal Statement Work
  2. 2. • A personal statement is used to sell yourself as best as possible to the universities you are choosing to apply to, you need to make yourself sound as good as possible for a chance to be given an offer from a university • a good personal statement should include reasons why you're interested in the course, reasons for why you're excited to apply for the course, past education and experience, why you think you belong on the course and why you'd do well on the course as well as your past inspirations and why you've chosen media for your education and career of choice
  3. 3. • The best ways to make your personal statement as effective as you can is to; talk about the achievements you're proud of, talk about roles of responsibility you have or have had in or out of school and include the things that make you interesting • Work experiences and future plans are important to include. Include examples of your past jobs, placements, work experience and voluntary work, especially if its included to the course as its shows a good work ethic and shows you're hardworking • Mention how you'll use the skills and experience you'll gain to help launch your career in your chosen subject
  4. 4. • Including your inspirations can help get your point across about how you want to be on the chosen course it can also help explain as to what interested you onto the subject and as to why you wanted to pursue it as an education and as why you want to pursue it as a career choice • Another important aspect of a personal statement is the professionalism it represents, it will show your professionalism so it's important to make sure your personal statement is as professional looking as possible with correct spelling, punctuation and capitalisation of certain words, it's important to proof read your personal statement to fix any of these issues as a spelling mistake can hurt your chances of getting an offer from your chosen university
  5. 5. • Personal statement draft 1 page 1 • The subject interests me as I have always had an interest with movies, growing up watching these movies has inspired me learning of the insight to how much work goes into one scene and how even the most insignificant seeming role can be crucial to a films production. It also fascinates me seeing how different directors can come up with their own unique products like Tim Burton, John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper who all have created memorable films that made a mark in the industry inspiring causing the world of film and media to become a fascinating subject for me kickstarting my passion for the said industry's. Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are movies that are not only two examples of great work in film, and even though they were released almost half a century ago, they stood the test of time and hold up as both innovative and creative movies from whereas even with today's modern horror films using advanced film making techniques, they aren't as good as the classics that led the way and made the horror genre as big as it is today. The fact that these films are a good argument as to what inspired many predecessors after it is why I'm so interested in film and media, to gain those skills and knowledge to hopefully be in a media-related career so I can grow up to be like those directors who inspired me and my path onto my path into media. • I think I'm suitable for this course because of my passion for media and films, I'm willing to put in the work necessary to learn as much on this course as possible as well as put the skills I already have to use and gain more information to make those already used skills to use and I'm eager to learn new skills that can be paired with my other skills to make my overall work as good as it can be my previous/current course is creative media level 3, it is relevant to the course(s) I have chosen because it’s all to do with film and media work, whether its journalism, social media, blog posts or film/tv, it all ties into the course I am wanting to apply to
  6. 6. • my skills vary from cinematography work as well as some experience with photography meaning I have knowledge on many different camera angles and have put them into practice in college projects as part of my course. I also have experience working outside of the classroom to complete my various assignments and projects, as well as my exposure to making and adding to my own blog that I use to document my work and a YouTube channel that I use to have as further online documentation of my filming work, first drafts and final drafts of my projects, as well idea pitches, idea feedback recordings and B-roll footage used in some of my projects, meaning I am used to keeping my work up to date inside and outside of the class room proving my organisational skills I worked at Young Asian Voices where i did photography and social media work for them and working on the media side of it, i learned how to work with people from a wide variety of ages, cultures and backgrounds, this is important as you'll never know who you'll be working with in the media industry, it also helped me learn more and put more practice into my photography skills, it also taught me patience and persistence with my work and collaborating with others to expand on my ideas or make my ideas better with the knowledge i have gained i would like to go into a role in film such as director, producer or go into photographer as that has been my dream since i was little and i would love a chance to be a part of the media industry to add to its history and be more people's inspiration for going down the media career path Personal statement draft 1 page 2
