2. Lord David Puttnam
• May the force be with you- Sunderland university in the
Murray Library on 10/10/2022-
• David Putnam is a former member of the house of
lords and Is now also a well known producer and
executive known for his work on the films Chariots of
fire, The Mission, Midnight Express and The Killing
Fields, he has won oscars and been nominated for
many more for his work on these films and for his work
in the roles of which he helped create these films.
3. • While at this event I learned that the growth and evolution is a
pivotal part of the media industry as it allows films to be made
in a shorter time to keep up with the media consumerism we
have in today's norm of binge-watching and wanting more
content quicker and whilst this is a nice way to get content out
to consumers and helps mass produce more content in a short
amount of time, it buries the smaller
more unrecognised companies that can't afford this advancing
technology while continuing to feed the big film empires with
more money and recognition that it doesn't need
• In conclusion I learned that while technology is growing quickly
is a good thing, it comes at the cost of many smaller companies
trying to produce the same type of quality
entertainment but failing due to the small timeframe they may
have to be able to keep up with companies such as
Netflix or Disney
4. Zara
Mcdermott
talk
• 12/12/2022- Sunderland College Bede Campus- The Living
Staircase
• Ex-love island star turned social media personality Zara
Mcdermott talked about her experiences on love island and
what life was like during and after love island as well as both
the positive and negative comments she experienced on social
media, whether its comments of people being nice on social
media as well as the hate speech and comments typically used
and known of in the online community of social medias, we
were told about her experiences and shown a documentary
about other people whose mental issues where affected for
the worse by people spreading hate on social media due to
the judgmental comments made regarding those peoples
physical appearances as well as people's mental health being
affected for the worse due to the fabrication of social media
posts made to get attention, likes and showing a façade of a
perfect life in order to make themselves looks as good as
possible without realising how that can affect others
5. • I learned from this experience that you can't trust
everything you see on social media and how the
simplest thing like posting an image online or simply
posting a comment whether made in a joking or
serious manner can affect other people's mental
health for the worse and how these comments can
lead to people worsening their own mental health
due to people believing that their life isn't as good as
the poster of an image or video even if that video is
all fake and set up to look as perfect as possible and
setting an unnecessary bar that people on social
media feel like they need to reach, I learned not to
believe everything you see and that any form of
media can affect someones mental health which is
why you need to take caution on what you post to
the eye of the public
6. DigiFin- Lee
Axon
• Sunderland College-Living Staircase
• At this event Lee Axon talked to us about his experiences
working as a professional photography and videography
company digital finish or digifin, he taught us about the
things hes done with the simple technology of a phone
camera before investing in things like drone technology to
help further his work, he taught us about the connections
he's made with many different professional and major
companies by making advertisements for them using a
phone camera and an editing software on a modern
smartphone, he taught us about different camera
techniques and tricks we can use to make the same level of
professional looking projects that he's made
7. • At this event I learned that by simply
investing in a decent smartphone you
can make advertisements or projects in
general look as good as big media
companies with expensive cameras, I
learned that through dedication and the
right techniques you can become a real
success in the media industry by
yourself by investing in the right
technology and getting connections
with the right people

exactly you want to do and where in the country you
want to do it, out of the selected options that is, she
even showed us a video message from BBC
weatherman Paul Mooney, this has shown me a good
choice for what I could possibly do after college, as she
told us she also has the option to do the apprenticeship
part time so she can also pursue her university
education in design engineering technology in
Newcastle
