What theory
did Charles
Darwin devise?
The theory
of Evolution
Charles Darwin
Darwin was born on February 12th 1809 in
Shrewsbury
 In 1831, he joined a five year scientific
expedition on the survey ship HMS Beagle
 He is renowned for being on the greatest
scientists to ever live

Early Life
He was born into a wealth and well
connected family with his paternal
grandfather Erasmus Darwin who was one
of the most clever people of 18th century.
 He originally planned to become a
doctor but switched to Science

Early Life continued
At School he was of normal intelligence
and quite ordinary
 He also had a great love of nature when
he was a child

HMS Beagle
Charles Darwin went on an exploration of
South Hemisphere on a ship called HMS
Beagle
 The voyage was to last five years

Origin of Species
The Origin of Species was the book that
was written by Charles Darwin so he could
publish his theory
 Although before it was published John
Murray who was his publisher said that
there would be a big outcry so only 1250
copies were printed

Christians vs Darwin
Christians
Christians were outraged because it
denied the truth of the bible.
In the Bible if you read genesis when god
explained how the world was made in 6
days and then on the 7th day he rested
Darwin's theory consequently went against
the whole scriptures of the Bible

Darwin
His theory was that animals evolved from
each other and because of Evolution he
said that it was survival of the fittest on
Planet Earth. Survival of the fittest is that the
animals (or plants) best suited to their
environment are more likely to survive and
reproduce, passing on the characteristics,
which helped them survive to their offspring.
Gradually, the species changes over time
