2. Two scholarships of $3,000 each are offered to students enrolled in a course of study leading to a bachelor's or
master's degree in Business Administration. In addition, scholarship recipients will be offered an opportunity for one 4-
month internship employment during their period of study.

Year End Event Recap
The chapter closed out 2008 on December 2nd with an event featuring 2 dynamic speakers.
Keith Wyche, President of U.S. Operations at Pitney-Bowes, thought leader, career coach and author of Good Is Not
Enough shared strategies to help the audience develop and excel in their career or business endeavors
Michael Woods, President & CEO of Ashtae Products, a multicultural hair-care distribution company headquartered in
North Carolina, provided insights into the many challenges and opportunities associated with building and expanding a
small business.

Chapter Executive Profile: Jelani Greene
Currently Jelani Greene works as a Business Analyst with Tridel Corporation, the largest
condominium developer in Canada, which specializes in land development and creating up
scale retail properties. As a Business Analyst, Jelani is responsible for the development,
management and production lifecycle of in house applications, as well as researching and
deploying vendor products.
In 2006 a project Jelani manages for Tridel Corporation, called "Zero Invoicing," won a gold
medal at the Canadian Information Productivity Awards, in the category of "Organizational Transformation".
He received his Master's in Business Administration from York University's Schulich School Business and his
Honour's B.Sc from the University of Western Ontario in Computer Science, with a Specialization in Software
Engineering.
Jelani Greene is also the director of E-Marketing for the Toronto NBMBAA Chapter. In this function it is his
responsibility to establish the strategic direction of e-marketing, including the development of a three year
plan identifying areas of e-marketing focus, such as search engine optimization and online media
campaigns in Canada.

3. The chapter held two events at the beginning of the year to provide members and friends with an
opportunity to have some "winter fun" as well as participate in a unique cultural event.
On January 31st, 2009, the chapter hosted a Blue Mountain Ski Trip. The event featured a mix of beginners as
well as seasoned professionals on the slopes. The group also featured a combination both of skiers and
snowboarders.
On February 28th, 2009 the chapter coordinated a group outing to see the "The Damnation of Faust" Opera
at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Attendees were taken backstage after the show to meet Jamaican
board bass baritone Sir Willard White who played the role of Mephistopheles in the opera.

Pathways to the Top: CEO Speaker Series: Kevin Warren - Xerox Canada
On Feb. 26th 2009 Kevin M. Warren, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Xerox Canada hosted a speaking engagement at Rotman School of Management's
Fleck Atrium on the campus of the University of Toronto.
Kevin, one of the top 100 most powerful executives as named by Black Enterprise Magazine,
provided the audience with food for thought on the topic of Leadership & Insights into Corporate
America & Canada. In a significant example of corporate leadership and on the occasion of
Black History month, Kevin announced the $3000 Undergraduate and the $3000 Graduate
Xerox/NBMBAA minority scholarships and internships with a closing date of May 15, 2009.

Member Profile: Michael Ballard
It is not ever day you meet an entrepreneur who decides to start a business while he is in the
midst of fighting for his life. Yet that's exactly when Michael decided to start Resiliency for Life.
Michael has thrived despite two bouts of cancer, and a midnight emergency surgery.
Resiliency is a positive asset approach to life. When we chose to live resiliently it makes a
powerful, and positive impact on our relationships, education, career, income, health and
community.
Organizations hire Michael and his associates to assist professionals and staff with issues such as low morale, team

Leaders of Tomorrow / LOT
The Toronto chapter's pilot LOT program kickoff took place on March 28th, 2009 in the 35th floor boardroom of the TD
Canada Trust tower in the heart of the Bay Street financial district. Students from Sir Sanford Fleming Academy
participated in a four hour session that focused on personal and financial management.
