2. Style 1: Spacing Out
This is when someone is talking to us but we ignore them because our
mind is wandering off to another place. That person may have something
important to say but we don’t here them because we are caught up in our
own world.
3. STYLE 2: Pretend Listening
– This style is much more common. We still aren’t paying attention to
the person, but we pretend we’re making insightful comments, such as
“yea”, “uh-huh”, “cool”, “sounds great”. The person speaking will get
the hint and will feel there not important enough to be heard.
4. Style 3: Selective listening
This style is when you only pay attention to parts of the
conversation that interests us. You only want to talk
about what you wanna talk about, not what the other
person wants to talk about.
5. Style 4: Word listening
– This occurs when we do pay
attention but we only listen
to words, not body language
or feeling or the true
meaning behind these words.
6. Style 5: Self-Centered Listening
– We see this from one point of view We don’t stand
in the other persons shoe’s, only our own. This is
pretty much judging other people. We listen to the
other person, but we make comments in our heads.
