Indonesia currently have four Unicorn-class startups, one of them is the Online Travel Agency
Traveloka. Even though current trends point towards E-commerce and Fintech as the most active
subvertical among Indonesian startup investors, the Travel subvertical certainly cannot be easily
ignored. What's more is the tendency among upper-midddle class in Indonesia to spend more of
their disposable income on “experiences” (chiefly among them travel & vacation) rather than
“material goods” such as gadgets and the like.
This survey conducted by DailySocial.id in cooperation with JakPat Mobile Survey Platform was
carried out on February 2018, administered to a panel of 2013 respondents proportionally sampled
from the JakPat survey respondents pool of smartphone users spread throughout Indonesia.

Over 80 percent of respondents report having traveled either out of town or out of the country at least once within the past six months. That said
over 75.98% of traveling respondents can be considered light travelers, in that they have traveled at most 6 times or less.

(OTA) as businesses that offer travel-related services such as train
tickets, airplane tickets, and hotel tickets, through the Internet.
Over 71.44% of our respondents have used OTA’s for their travel
needs. This would suggest that respondents rely more on OTA’s for
their travel needs than on conventional travel agencies or other
