Healthcare system is a country’s system of delivering services for the
prevention and treatment of diseases and for the promotion of
physical and mental well being.
Health service management involves planning, organizing,
coordinating and providing leadership in a variety of health services
setting.

Private sectors are those which falls outside the direct control of
government.
• Informal private sectors:(Usually small scale providers including drug
shops)
-Unlicensed and unregulated
• Formal private sector:(Multinational, national enterprises, private
qualified individuals)
-Legally registered and recognized by government.
5. BACKGROUND
Health service delivery is now being controlled by private hospitals and
pharmaceutical companies. Health care is also being sold at private sectors.
The Health For All introduced the importance of private sectors in health.
• In Nepal, seventh five year plan had made policy provision for encouraging
private sectors participation in development of health sectors.
• National Health Policy, 1991 opened the door for private sector to play in
health. It occurred in the name of greater involvement of private sectors.
• The Ninth five year plan directed NGO sector to provide services based on
rural and geographical region.” and increased private sector involvement in
the development of specialist oriented health services.
6. ROLE OF PRIVATE SECTORS IN HEALTH
SERVICES AND MANAGEMENT
The private sectors provide a mix of goods and services. Some of the
roles are:
Direct provision of health services.
Provision of medicines and medical products.
Training of the health workforce.
To scale up the delivery of essential interventions to achieve
international health targets .
To enhance the effectiveness of health care delivery with the use of
innovative and flexible models.

To enhance well connected members and entry of young
professionals.
To control of foreign funds by introducing registration or permission.
Emphasizing well defined role and provision of services and service

• The private healthcare sector plays a major role delivering healthcare.
Owing to reasons such as availability of technology and expertise;
ease to access; private ventures (profit and non-profit organization)
are increasingly becoming the centre for high-quality healthcare
services.
• The private sector is the engine of growth. Private sectors helps to
improve the economical status of country by Successful businesses
drive growth, creating jobs and paying the taxes that finance services
and investment.
10. LOCAL LEVEL PROGRAMS
Local level programmes are services provided by local health agencies such
as primary health care centers, health posts, mothers group.
Immunization: National immunization program(NIP) provides equitable
services to the geographically, economically hard to reach, marginalized
community.
-National immunization program(NIP) is the priority 1 (p1) program of Nepal.
-Currently immunization program is conducted through more than 16000
outreach clinics in Nepal.
-Currently 7 types of vaccines are given according to EPI schedule in Nepal.

FP/MCH: Family Planning services are available at local health
facilities including contraceptive measures, counselling services.
-MCH programmes provides multiple streamline and improve care,
both for women and child through health post and primary health care
centers and up to the community level.
-MCH programs includes ANC services, Safe delivery services and PNC
services.
-Local health facilities such as Health Post(HP), Primary Health Care
Centers(PHCCs), with support from NGO have been able to provide the
Family Planning, ANC, PNC, growth monitoring and counselling services
at local level.

Nutrition: Nutrition programmes at local level aims to enhance
nutritional well being, reduce child and maternal mortality.
- Improved nutrition programs are implemented by health posts,
primary health care centers in collaboration with relevant sectors.
-Nutrition programmes are designed to improve the nutrition situation
particularly of children and women.
-The Nutrition program aims to increase calorie intake, protein and
micronutrients thereby reducing anemia, underweight and stunting
among target population.

HIV/AIDS: Health sectors plays the lead role in coordinating the response
to the epidemic at national level and local level by raising awareness,
providing ART clinics at local level, Increasing access to HIV/AIDS services.
-Effective prevention interventions such as condom distribution, HIV/AIDS
counselling at local level.
- The program increases access to prevention measures, testing and
treatment of HIV/AIDS at local level.
Other programmes: Water Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH), School Health
Programmes etc.
