I have spent much of the last 5 years trying to tell (warn) people that distributed learning is coming. My colleagues around the globe tell me that I am riding a dead horse because distributed learning is already here and we should be dealing with that instead. Common wisdom says that if you discover that you are riding a dead horse the best strategy is to get off the horse. I will try to stay away from technical discussions as much as possible unless that truly is the interest of the group. Too often discussions about distance learning focuses neither on the distance nor the learning but the technologies that we plug into walls. Just once I would like someone to come to me and say: “Robert, I am doing a DE course but I need to be able to talk/see my students once/month.” What I do hear is: “Robert, I have to do a videoconference course.” Why videoconferencing?
