How many of you have a to do list on sticky notes, a notepad and/or on your phone or computer?
The funny thing is that I bet you that most of the people you are around are in awe of all you get done. They think of you as together, organized, on top of everything and successful. The problem is often ourselves and how we feel – in or out of control.
I took myself to a great therapist, myself, to analyze and answer this question. I wanted to live what I call The Plum Life.
If our mothers could do it – and most did it well – why does it feel so complicated now? Why can’t I be calm, cool, collected like my mother always was?
Salary.com did a survey back in 2005 and determined that women spend an average of 44 hours per week at their paid job and 50 hours per week on their work at home.
I started with Food Service. What else? Maintenance and Repair, Housekeeping,
It is sort of like swatting at that one mosquito that flies around your ear at night.
Step One: Acknowledge that the WORK of running a household and family is a full time job – not a series of small tasks or, even a part time job.
Step Two: Organize the details in a way that others can get to them and help you with them.
Remind yourself to buy the present…
If someone has to step into your job at work – a substitute teacher, for example – you want to leave instructions that help her know what you would do if you were there so your students do not lose ground while you are out. The same is true for the work you do at home.
Step Three: Set up a system to communicate all of this information to others so that they can be successful (making you feel successful).
