Cape Jervis | Here's a summary of what we heard in 2020
When Council last conducted a community forum with the
Cape Jervis Township, it discovered nine ‘top themes’ of
dicussion, and these were explored in more detail to become
a shared understanding of what is important for Cape Jervis
(2020).
For the first half of the meeting, everyone was invited to
consider the question What are your hopes and
dreams for our district in 2030 and beyond?
FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN
» More facilities for children and young families, keeping
the future of town improvement for all - Support a
children’s way of life in Cape Jervis, including play
facilities and public conveniences, bike tracks
» Support of business to better improve prospects of
employment for our children
» Connecting young people to community services and
meeting places eg. Youth centre at Yank and Cape
Jervis Community Centre
TRANSPORT AND ACCESS TO CAPE JERVIS
» Increased frequency and accessibility of public
transport options to Adelaide; help the local
community live in Cape Jervis and work or study
elsewhere
» Safe to walk streets and safe in our own homes
» Regular transport to services within the District and
region (eg. Normanville, Yankalilla, Victor Harbor for
doctors, chemist and specialist, shopping.
POSITIVE CONNECTED COMMUNITY
» More united local community
» Do a neighbour watch/support number list
» More caring community to look after each other
including community connection, pride groups.
HEALTH SERVICES
» Investigate a model to have health services available
in the township on a more regular basis. Including a
visiting doctor a few days a week, Counselling services,
community development facilities, community grants
to improve/add to facilities
BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
» Work/business opportunities that provide sustainable
reasons to stay in Cape Jervis.
» Work for young families, sport
» Sustainable development support to enable
» investment and support employment
» opportunities.
PORT FACILITIES
» Boat ramp upgrade
» Boat ramp complete refurbishments, perhaps even
berths for larger boats
» Port facilities for all users
TOURISM
» To capture the traffic before it goes to KI to develop
our community; make Cape Jervis a destination in it’s
own right (no K-Mart etc.)
» Heritage of Cape Jervis to be shared to improve
knowledge of local tourists
COMMUNICATION ABOUT CHANGES/ IMPROVEMENT
» Have a defined strategy of ambition/ achievement in
mind when looking to deliver change
» Improved and informed advocacy for issues facing
Cape Jrvis and its infrastructure
