3. (A) Classification Of Objects
Light Source Glass Slab
If a glass slab is kept in the path of
light, it allows light to pass through it.
Such objects which allow light to pass
through them are called transparent
objects. They do not form shadow. eg.
glass.
4. Translucent
Light Source Butter Paper Faint Shadow
If a butter paper is kept in the path of
light, it allows some light to pass
through it. Such objects which allow
only partial light to pass through them
are called translucent objects. They
form faint shadows eg. butter paper
5. Opaque
Light Source
If a book is kept in the path of light, it
does not allow any light to pass
through it. Such objects which do not
allow any light to pass through them
are called opaque object. They form
dark shadows. eg. book, brick
6. (B)Properties of Shadows
1) Formation of Shadows
Light Source
Shadow is always formed in the
opposite direction to the source
of light.
7. 2) Object at Less Distance
Light Source Big & Faint Shadow
If the distance between the source of
light and the object is less, the shadow
formed is faint and bigger in size than
the object.
8. 3) Object at More Distance
Light Source Sharp & Small Shadow
If the distance between the source of
light and the object is more, the
shadow formed is sharp and smaller in
size than the object
9. 4) Movement of Shadow
Light Source
Shadow moves if the source of light
moves and the object is stationary and
vice versa.
10. C) Movement of Earth & Moon
1) Rotation
Our earth rotates on its
own axis from west to
east. The movement of
earth on its own axis is
called rotation. Day and
night are formed due to
this rotation of earth.
Te earth completes one
rotation in 24 hours
11. C)Movement of Earth & Moon
2) Revolution
Our earth also moves
around the sun. This
movement of earth
around the sun is called
Revolution. Different
seasons occur due to
this revolution of earth.
The earth completes
one revolution around
the sun in one year.
The moon revolves
around the earth.

12. D) Eclipse
1) Lunar Eclipse
Moon
When the sun, earth and moon are in a
straight line and earth is in the middle
such that the completely dark shadow
of earth falls on the moon, a lunar
eclipse occur. It occurs on purnima
night only.
EarthSUN
13. 2) Solar Eclipse
When the sun, moon and the earth are
in a straight line and moon is in the
middle such that the shadow of moon
falls on the earth, a solar eclipse
occur. It occurs on Amavasya night
only.
