Peter Kuperman, founder and CEO of coding education business Hatch
Canada, considers himself a secular humanist, placing a great deal of
importance on people and striving to make the world a better place. To
this end, Peter Kuperman supports a range of organizations and
initiatives, including the Plan International “Because I Am a Girl”
campaign.
Thanks to the work of Plan International and “Because I am a Girl,” the
African country of Malawi recently outlawed child marriage. The
amendment, voted through on February 14, 2017, is the result of a year-
long campaign held by Plan International and other groups.
Prior to this amendment, child marriage laws maintained a loophole that
allowed children between the ages of 15 and 18 to be married with
parental consent. Parliamentarians in Malawi voted 131 to 2 in favor of
the amendment and have now ensured better futures for Malawian girls.
