  6. 6. Study of the social influences on behavior How people’s behavior is shaped by their (social) environment and their social characteristics What are the effects of internet use on loneliness? Does living in an ethnically mixed neighborhood can make people less prejudiced against immigrants ? 6

Three main sociological themes  Social inequality ~ poverty, equal chances in education, … • Do the children of the high educated more likely choose a bilingual secondary education program?  Social cohesion ~ criminality, voluntary work, intergroup relations • Which refugee groups integrate better in the host society and why?  Rationalization ~ globalization, secularization, … • Are insecure jobs causing people to experience more stress and symptoms of depression?
