2. Current Roles and Responsibilities
As Design Manager over Home and Gift I manage a team of thirteen designers/graphic
designers, producing numerous publications to agreed scheduled dates following
signed off graphics packs.
Within the production process we create concepts and graphics packs all backed up
with test photography which are presented to marketing for sign off prior to
commencing artwork.
Currently we have produced page templates/grids to provide a consistant look
throughout the gift books to help speed up the process and working closely with our
photographic studio we are looking into a consistant look and feel for all home
photography to provide a digital first approach and reduce costs by not shooting
products multiple times.
Working alongside production when it comes to the schedules which constantly move,
having to adapt and keep the design teams and photographic studios upto date,
regular team updates and an approachable style helps keep things on track Im an
advocate of open and constant dialogue.
Responsible for financial management of set budgets, liaising with various photographic
studios, design studios and freelancers to ensure all quotes are accurate and to brief.

Job Purpose
Manage the team of Graphic Designers in the Design Studio, ensuring that all catalogue
and leaflet publications, briefed to the studio, are produced on time, to the agreed brief
and meet the required creative standards this included all leaflets, specialogues and
value books.
Principle Accountabilities
Effectively work along side colleagues in Marketing and Buying.
Improve the creative propositions of all company publications going through the studio.
Improve the quality and reduce the turn around time for designing leaflet/catalogue
publications.
Improve and manage the efficiency of the workflow within the design studio.
Develop standardised briefing documents for the studio.
Recruit, assess, train and manage Design Studio staff.
Work to production schedules and ensure all artwork meets its respective repro
deadline.
Minimise the number of pages going externally for production and thereby reduce
costs.
Support the Design Managers and Creative Head in the production of catalogue work.
Attend period review meetings and undertake the development work for leaflet
style-setters.
Challenge existing working practices, introduce new standard service level agreements
and manage those processes and procedures to improve efficiency.
Support the Marketing Manager-Design in the development of the departments
systems, infrastructure and workflow.

Brought in as studio design manager, to run a department of 45 graphic designers,
typesetters, co-ordinators, proof-readers and Image team producing 4 main books and
over 300 leaflets per year. Responsible for recruiting and training staff, improving creative
propositions of all publications going through the studio, implementing a new catalogue
management system and design manager for all non-fashion pages.
