This is a small sample of what you've always
wanted to know about diamonds (or not ...)
FACTS ABOUT DIAMONDS
 The Diamond is the hardest substance known to man
and it is made of a crystallized carbon that has unique
  powers of light reflection.
FACTS ABOUT DIAMONDS
• Since diamonds are composed of a single element, they
are the purest of all gemstones.
DIAMOND HISTORY

 The Greek word "Adamas" meaning
unconquerable and indestructible is the root
 word of diamond.
DIAMOND HISTORY
 The first river-bed diamonds were probably discovered
in India, in around 800 B.C. The volcanic source of these
diamonds was never discovered, but the alluvial(1)
deposits were rich enough to supply most of the world’s
  diamonds.

(1)the formation of new land by deposition of sediment by the sea or a river.
DIAMOND HISTORY

 In 1477, Archduke Maximilian of Austria
gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy, thus
beginning the tradition of diamond engagement rings.
The reason a woman wears it on the third finger of her
left hand dates back to the Egyptian belief that the “vena
amoris” (vein of love) ran directly from the heart to the
 top of that finger.
THE VALUE OF A DIAMOND: THE FOUR C’S
 Cut (Shape ): The cut is the factor that determines the
brilliance of a diamond. A classic round brilliant cut
diamond has 58 facets. There are twelve popular cuts of
 diamonds.
SHAPE AND CUT
 The principal shapes of diamond.

      Round Princess Emerald Asscher

       Oval Trillion Marquise Heart
THE VALUE OF A DIAMOND: THE FOUR C’S
 Colour: Colourless and near-colourless diamonds are the
most valuable. Though most diamonds may appear
colourless to the naked eye, the majority of diamonds
contain slight traces or yellow or light brown when
  viewed under a jeweller's loupe.
 There are diamonds of all the colours.

Very yellow Red diamond Intense green Deep yellow Black Brown yellow
THE VALUE OF A DIAMOND: THE FOUR C’S
 Carat Weight: a Carat is a standard unit of weight for
diamonds. Carats are divided into points. There are 100
 points to a carat.
THE VALUE OF A DIAMOND: THE FOUR C’S
 Clarity: The clarity of a diamond is based on the
inclusions found in the stone. The fewer inclusions the
diamond has; the clearer, more brilliant and more
 expensive the diamond will be.
