RICHARDSON PROJECTS LIMITED l Corporate Profile
Richardson & Co. (Ceylon) Ltd., was
incorporated in Sri Lanka in 1962 as a
manufacturers’and exporters’representative.
The company was associated with its parent
- Richardson & Co. (London) Ltd., an export
buying house based in the UK. As one of the
largest shippers to former commonwealth
countries, including Sri Lanka, it was
deemed necessary at the time to set up
a localized operation. Richardson & Co.
(Ceylon) Ltd., functioned as the Sri Lankan
office until regulations brought in by the
local government in 1970 turned it into a Sri
Lankan owned company.
During the first 15 years of operation, R&Co.,
was primarily engaged in trading and indent
sales of electrical switchgear, construction
materials and industrial machinery. In 1980,
the company embarked on a focused
drive to provide solutions to the Medium
& High Voltage electrical segments, from
reputed manufacturers in the U.K. and
Europe. Within a short span, the company
was successful in securing several supply
contracts for many electrification projects,
which were completed under the Mahaweli
Development Scheme, one of the largest
infrastructure programme initiated by the
government of Sri Lanka.
During the early 90’s, new opportunities in
infrastructural projects based on BOO/ BOT
models and donor assisted development
programmes, created a demand for local
companies to handle projects on a turnkey
basis. Richardson Projects was set up in
1995 for this purpose and the company has
played a key role since then in several major
national power Transmission & Distribution
projects.
Our History
The company’s association with world class
manufacturers of Medium/High Voltage
equipment, have helped the company to
raise its own quality standards. This has
enabled Richardson to deliver a far superior
service and have earned a reputation
for reliability and consistency with our
customers locally.
Inearly2000thecompanydecidedtoexpand
into the low voltage electrical segment
and so incorporated Richardson Electric.
The primary focus of this new company
was to identify market requirements
in the manufacturing and building
automation sectors, in order to promote
the comprehensive range of electrical
switchgears and building automation
products manufactured by principals such
as - Moeller GmbH of Germany.
With the expansion into the low voltage
segment, the company also embarked into
lightning protection, with a tie up with
the world renowned Lightning & Surge
Protection company - W. J. Furse of Wilford,
Nottingham, U.K. Today, Richardson Electric
is a leading solution provider for lightning
protection and has successfully completed
several projects for blue chip clients and
leading telecommunication providers in Sri
Lanka.
Richardson is proud of this history of
achievement and steady growth. We
now look forward to establishing strong
international joint venture partnerships for
the manufacture of electrical products for
export.

growth in the last few years, to become Sri

product portfolio made up of some of the
top electrical brands/manufacturers, backed
by the strong engineering services offered
by our highly trained and professional sales
team, we can proudly stake our claim to be
the industry leader, setting the benchmark
and establishing the highest standards in all

Having had experience in representing
pioneer manufacturers in the electrical
industry such as English Electrical Fusegear
Ltd (EEF); Midland Electrical Manufacturing
Co. Ltd., (MEM); British Insulated Calendars
& Cables Ltd (BICC); during my tenure as a
Director in a premier engineering company
in Sri Lanka, Colombo Commercial Co.
(Engineers) Ltd. (CCC), I observed that clients
were not provided with sufficient technical
support for selection and operation of
their electrical systems. When I rejoined
Richardson in 1976, my intention was to
provide our customers with reliable electrical
switchgear, backed with technical support
and dependable after-sales-service, creating
a win-win situation for all.
Today, technical support and customer
service are the fundamental pillars of success
of any organization. I am pleased to see that
the senior management of the company,
have taken great strides to ensure that the
customer is provided not only with the best

Lightning Protection Systems
With the support of W J Furse of UK, we offer
years of experience in lightning protection
systems; designing, installing and
commissioning such systems for primary
and secondary lightning strikes. Major
projects we have completed in this area are
the earthing and installation of transient
protectors for 85 Base Stations for Dialog
Telekom, 50 Base Stations for Celltel and the
direct earthing system for Ceylinco Celestial
Towers. Our key customers are mobile
telephone service providers, TV and radio
stations and building projects of every scale.
Panel Assembly
Supported by Moeller, Germany, REPL also
designs, fabricates, installs and commissions
main distribution boards, motor control
centres, and automatic changeover panels.
