How time flies! And before we know it, the school holidays
are here and we are busy preparing for the year-end
festivities. So why not start your planning now…
In this inaugural issue of Dream Vacation, we have specially
included a vacation planner, aptly called the “We PLAN 4U”
planner (p. 14) where you “book” your vacation plans and we
“block” the rooms for you. For prudent planners, here’s an
excellent road trip idea for those travelling down south (p.
01). But if jetting off to another country is your cup of tea,
then check out our write-up on Spain (p. 02), the country
that gives us ‘matador’, ‘flamenco’ and ‘paella’.
As we continue to improve and innovate to offer
uncompromising quality of service that you deserve, we
look forward to bringing you more new affiliated resorts (p.
10), more events, more travel tips, and more magical
experiences to smart travelers like you.
Thank you for your support!

for the
Year-end Rush
“A good plan is like a road
map: it shows the final
destination and usually the
best way to get there.”

Visit the Golden Triangle of Art
(Madrid City Centre)
Take time to visit the galleries & museums that
contain some of the world’s foremost artworks.
Have fun at La Tomatina
(Buñol, near Valencia)
This annual, fun food fight festival
celebrates the ripening of the tomato
harvest. Get together in your worst clothes
to throw tomatoes at each other! There is
also music, fireworks & a paella cooking
contest.
Attend the Running of the Bulls
(Pamplona)
You’d be crazy to want to participate, but equally
crazy to miss the chance of seeing it! Witness brave
Spanish men queue in the streets for a glorious
chance to outrun huge wild bulls. The event lasts 9
days & with many injuries – definitely not for the
weak stomach. Dance at the Sonar Music
Festival (Barcelona)
Hailed as the forefront of modern day
electronic music production in one of the
hippest cities in the world!
Explore Barcelona
Take the opportunity to wander around
this incredible city while you’re there -
from the skeletal buildings of Art
Nouveau architect Gaudí to the massive
Camp Nou football stadium.
Experience
the Flamenco
(Andalusia)
Probably the most hypnotic
dance form in Spain, the
Flamenco is comprised of
the Cante (song),Toque
(guitar) & Baile (dance).
The singing is melancholy
with a lot of wailing, foot
stamping & clacking of
castanets.
Party in the Balearic
Island of Ibiza
Not only is Ibiza fundamental to
the creation of dance music over
the last 2 decades with
incredible clubs, it has amazing
beach-side scenery where you
can watch the sunset with a
glass of sangria.
Go see Pablo Picasso’s
Guernica painting (Madrid)
Housed in the Museo Reina Sofia within
the GoldenTriangle of Art, Picasso’s huge
and troubling artwork captures the
anguish of that time when Spanish
Nationalist Forces asked the Germans
and Italians to bomb Guernica.

fortress is perhaps the finest of them with
exquisite decoration, courtyards & gardens.

(Santiago de Compostela)
As one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites,
the Way of St. James pilgrim route is among
the most meaningful walks you will ever take.

Cadiz (South
West)
As the oldest city in
Western Europe, the
best time to visit Cadiz is
during its world famous
carnival in the spring
when the streets are
alive with all sorts of
costumed groups.
Go to the Semana Santa
Festival (Málaga)
It’s worth seeing as they have
incredible candlelit processions &
Málaga is one of the most exciting
places to watch the festivities.

small dishes of local
delicacies like fried
calamares, olives &

down with a good Spanish
wine like Rioja.
See Mount Teide

This towering volcano at
3,000 metres high is Spain’s
highest peak & is part of a
large national park. You can

15Customs & Etiquette in Spain
every visitor should know
Mind your words…
1 When addressing elderly Spaniards or those you’re
not well-acquainted with, use the formal usted rather
than the familiar tu.
2 Address new colleagues with the formal usted if you
speak Spanish; then follow their lead in switching to
the familiar tu once a working relationship has been
established.
3 Learn a little of the local language by just mastering
a few basic words & terms will make chatting with the
locals more rewarding.
4 Spanish is not the principal language in all of Spain:
the Basques speak Euskera; Catalan in Catalonia;
Gallego in Galicia & Valenciano in Valencia. Local
radio & television stations may broadcast in their
respective languages & road signs may be
printed/spray-painted over with the preferred
regional language.
5 Learn at least the following basic phrases:
- buenos días (hello - until 2pm)
- buenas tardes (good afternoon - until 8pm)
- buenas noches (hello - after dark)
- por favor (please)
- gracias (thank you)
- adiós (goodbye)
- sí (yes)
- no (no)
- los servicios (the toilets)
- la cuenta (bill/check)
- habla inglés? (do you speak English?)
- no comprendo (I don't understand)
6 If your Spanish breaks down, you should have no
trouble finding people who speak English in major
cities & coastal resorts, but don’t count on the bus
driver or the passer-by on the street. You might have
better luck with people under 30.
Dress to impress…
7 No swimsuits in public spaces. It’s common sense – if
you’re unlikely be allowed entry in a restaurant wearing
swimming attire back home, don't do it when overseas.
8 Be respectful when visiting churches. Casual dressing is
fine if it's not flashy or messy. Men shall not go bare-
chested anywhere other than the beach or poolside.
9 Casual-smart dressing is generally accepted in most
places these days.
10 Smart dressing for business meetings is the norm in
Spain.
Timing is everything…
11 Most shops outside of major cities close from 2-5pm
when shopkeepers go home for their main meal of the
day or to take a nap.You might want to join them by
taking a quick siesta after lunch in preparation for a long
night out on the town.
12 Spanish office hours can be confusing - some offices
stay open continuously from 9am-3pm, with a very short
lunch break. Others open in the morning, break-up the
day with a long lunch break of 2-3 hours & re-open at 4 or
5pm until 7 or 8pm.
13 Spaniards’ lack of punctuality has changed dramati-
cally in recent years, so you’re expected to show up for
meetings on time.
Dining manners…
14 Dining hours are often misunderstood: lunch to the
Spanish is no earlier than 1:30pm (preferably after 2pm) &
not before 9pm for dinner. Dining out on the weekend
can begin at 10pm or even later. Some restaurants
operate a bit earlier in popular tourist areas.
15 Anti-smoking laws introduced in 2006 requiring bars &
clubs to provide at least 100sqm of non-smoking section;
whereas smoking isn’t allowed at all in most of the better
restaurants.

DREAM VACATION12
1 Did I order that? Check the items on your bill. Make sure it
matches to what you have ordered and no extra items
have been added.
2 Card or cash? Stick to cash especially at places with high
chances of credit card fraud. Never let a waiter/waitress,
shopkeeper, hotel staff or anyone take your card out of
your sight.
3 Is that locker really locked? You might be surprised that
some appear locked, but if you pull the unit away from
the wall or lift it from the floor, they might be backless or
even bottomless!
4 No thanks, I can carry myself. Don't let anyone carry your
luggage, even if they're wearing an official-looking badge.
At best, they'll expect payment; at worst they'll disappear
with it, or use you as an unsuspecting courier.
5 Taxi! Whichever part of the world, dishonest taxi drivers
overcharge, give lesser change or take longer routes.
Research fares beforehand so you know exactly how
much a trip should cost. Never allow drivers to load your
luggage until you've agreed on a price.
6 Beware of pick-pockets! The best way to prevent
pick-pocketing is to understand the most common tactics
used by pickpockets. They can operate individually or in
pairs and even in groups, employing various tactics to
distract you such as posing as a beggar or a tourist and
even as a concerned local pretending to be helpful.
Always be on the lookout and learn more on pickpockets’
modus operandi to better protect your belongings and
safety while travelling. www.wikihow.com/Pickpocket
7 Is your ticket for real? Buy only from official vendors to
ensure you won't be denied entry, fined or worse --
getting arrested!
8 Missing mobile phone credit. A favourite scam of dodgy
electronics shops is to sell you mobile phone credit & say
you'll receive a text message confirming your top-up
soon, but the message & credit never reach you.
9 Separate your sources of money. Keep at least one in a
different place, preferably not on you.
10 Scan all your major documents. Scan your travel
documents & email them to yourself. Or simply take a
picture and keep them in your mobile phone. That way,
your documents won't go missing even if your bags do.
11 Don't trust local strangers (too much). Limit how much
you should trust the locals when it comes to your personal
safety, money & consuming their food or drink.
12 Avoid PDAs. We mean Public Displays of Affluence (not
affection). Flashing that gold jewellery or carrying a
RM2,000 camera around your neck only makes you a
target for thieves.
13 Some things are best learned at home. Let’s be real --
teaching yourself to ride a motorbike or jet-ski in a
foreign country is probably unwise as some travel
insurance policies won't cover should there be any
injuries.
14 Check the fine print & certificates of instructors. If you're
doing a specialist course (scuba diving) or something risky
(bungee jumping), check that the operators have
legitimate qualifications & a good safety record.
15 Give it up. Here’s a simple rule that people find hard to
follow: give up their valuables when mugged. Just do it &
walk away unharmed.

DREAM VACATION18
OUR ANDALUCIAN HOLIDAY (14 – 22 February 2014)
MEMBER’S HOLIDAY DIARIES
Our Andalucian holiday started on the 14th
February 2014 when we flew from KL to Paris
on Air France at 11.40 pm, to arrive in Charles
de Gaulle airport at 6.10 the following
morning. At 10.30 am on the same day we flew
to Malaga on Air Europa. and arrived at 1pm.
Our daughter and her husband who were on
their honeymoon, arrived in Malaga a day
earlier. They picked us from the airport in a car
rented from SIXT car rental.
We checked-in at Club La Costa (CLC) World Resort in Mijas
Costa without much hassle. The reception staff was very polite
and was already expecting our arrival. We were very fortunate
to be given two 1-bedroom apartments at the San Diego
Suites. The resort is about 27 km from Malaga airport and 32
km from Malaga city centre. It was very well equipped with
excellent cooking facilities (induction stove, microwave oven
and electric oven), refrigerator, dishwasher and a washing
machine. The induction stove proved to be very useful as we
were able to prepare some home-cooked meals instead of
having to eat at restaurants. An electric kettle and toaster were
also provided.
There was also a central heating which was very useful, as the
nights could get very cold. In fact we had the heating on all the
time for as long as we were in the apartment. We also
discovered that the sofa in the living area could be converted
into a double bed for additional guests.
Each apartment has a balcony with a garden table and 4 chairs.
Both apartments were facing the swimming pool and
surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean green plants and
hibiscus hedges. The CLC management even provided us with
breakfast on our first day comprising bread, milk, butter, jam,
coffee, tea and sugar.
The facilities in CLC suites included an outdoor swimming pool,
fitness centre, and a clubhouse. There is also a smaller heated
outdoor swimming pool. Other facilities in CLC resort include
restaurants, a convenience store and pastry shop. A
tractor-drawn road train that goes round the resort every half
hour is a good way to see the whole place without tiring ones
feet
Having a rented car to drive to places of interest was
something that we couldn’t have done without. Malaga is
almost equidistant from Seville, Cordoba, Granada and
Gibraltar. These were places of our interest with each being
about a two-hour drive from the Resort. The nearest
interesting sites like Mijas and the city of Malaga were less
than half an hour away from the Resort. With so many
interesting sites to visit, it was a great pity indeed that we
didn’t spend much time to enjoy the excellent facilities at CLC.
We were just too busy every day visiting the historical remains
of the 700-year Islamic (Moors) Ottoman Empire that ruled
Spain from mid-8th to mid-15th Century AD.
The highlights of our visit were the Nasrid Palaces in
AlHambra, Granada to see the remains of the beautiful Islamic
architecture in Spain, the Alcazaba fortress and museum
showing the remains of the Moors in Malaga, the Mesquita
which is the grandiest and most beautiful mosque built by the
Moors in Cordoba which now used as Church, the Toros in
Seville which is the second oldest bullfight ring in Spain and the
famous rock of Gibraltar. Apart from visiting these historical
places, we also had the opportunity to do some shopping. In
Mijas, which we visited on the second last day of our stay in
Andalucia, we had English tea with scones in a tea-house
operated by an English couple. A visit to Ronda, another
interesting city situated on a rocky mountainous area, an
hour’s drive from Malaga, with beautiful and breathtaking cliffs
was one of the highlights of our tour.

DREAM VACATION 19
My family and I decided to have a short
gateway to Phuket to celebrate my
granddaughter’s 4th birthday in February. It
was quite a last minute plan, but nevertheless
we managed to grab the flight tickets on 9th
Feb to 14th Feb 2014 as well as booked for
accommodations via Palace Vacation Club.
To our surprise, we were offered to stay in a Royal lighthouse
(private villa) with 3 spacious bedrooms which could
accommodate the 6 of us comfortably. The villa was fully self
contained with all the necessities. This has made our stay a
memorable one and to this day we still talk about the
memories we had during our short stay at the villa.
It was an ad hoc decision to go for a short
trip to cameron highland with the whole
family. Luckily even though i placed the
bookings within a week time the PVC staff
is so accommodative and efficient.
By the 2nd day I had my confirmation bookings ready and it
was so convenient. I booked at equatorial hotel cameron
highland. When we reached there the check-in was smooth and
easy. Just show the confirmation print out you will get your key
card. The apartment at the hotel is so cozy with 2 spacious
rooms and a hall. The location is very strategic (next to the very
famous Kea Farm).
While we were there even though for a short trip we managed
to go to the "pasar malam", kea farm of course, strawberry
plucking which my daughter enjoyed so much. Taste a unique
sets of tea at sungai palas boh tea plantation, visited the
butterfly farm and ate the best steamboat ever at snack corner.
Lastly we closed the trip with a nice refreshing picnic at Lata
Iskandar before heading back home with all the sweet
memories.
My daughter said she had the best ever time on this trip. So
when she's happy I'm happy :)
Thank you PVC for being part of my great vacation.

Phuket is indeed a heavenly place to relax and distress. We
visited Phi Phi Island for snorkeling and swimming, The
breath-taking view og Maya Bay and the crystal clear water in
Phi Phi Island, Patong Beach & all beaches will always be in our
memories. My granddaughter enjoyed the most at the Phuket
Fantasea dinner show. The performance was magnificent
according to her.
In short, we enjoyed our vacation tremendously, and it was one
of the best birthday celebration my granddaughter will ever
had. Thank you Palace Vacation Club for making our holiday an
unforgettable one..

MEMBER’S HOLIDAY DIARIES
Tentang hotel, alhamdulillah sangat berpuas hati. ..
Kami melawat Legoland hari kedua. Anak-anaklah yang paling
seronok sekali. Terasa masuk ke dunia imaginasi
tambah-tambah lagi untuk pecinta LEGO. Siapa yang tak suka
kan?
Terserlah sungguh
kegembiraan mereka. Nampak
gaya ada harapan untuk ulang
pergi ke Johor lagi cuti-cuti di
sana :D.
Terima kasih Palace Vacation!

LEGOLAND – USS: MOST EXCITING & FUN TRIP EVER!! (^_^)
DREAM VACATION 21
Dear PVC,
We were very happy with this vacation. Being married for 6 years with 2 kids, this
vacation was definitely our second honeymoon after Krabi. The place was very nice and
beautiful. The scenery was simply mind-blowing. We were able to spend quality time
for each other and release our stress these few days. We also managed to bring back
this beautiful Red Amaryllis from Borneo Highlands.
We would like to thank Palace Vacation Club for giving us
this free vacation. We also would like to thank the person in
charge, Ms. Habibah for her effort that makes it possible for
us to enjoy this great holiday.

Dear PVC,
We have been members of Palace Vacation Club (PVC) for few years now. It was always a
holiday trip that we looked forward each year. From Penang, up the mountains of
Cameron Highlands, east coast of Kuantan and down to Johor we were able to explore
because PVC is part of it. Being provided with superior accommodation for my entire
family removed any anxieties and helped our holiday get off to a tremendous start.
Out of all the places we’ve been, Cameron Highland is a place that made us always feel
“HOME”. Cool weather paired with varieties scrumptious food who would resist with
that (we don’t!). The accommodation at Equatorial Hotel was superb! We stayed in a low
rise two-bedroom apartment with an English architectural style building overlooking a
magnificent view of green hills (amazing!) and mountains (breathtaking!).
Staffs showed great customer care and we had no troubles upon arrival. Though we had
some inconvenience with the first apartment provided, they were able to assist
promptly and we manage to settle on the next apartment swiftly. The room had good
amenities and facilities. The balcony would always be the best part.
As this is our second time in this paradise, we explore new places and sites we haven’t
seen and discovered. The tranquillity place of Lavender Park was great experience. We
also tried to explore the Parit Falls however as rain and dark clouds came, we didn’t
manage to carry on. A picturesque of a unique coffee place – Earth House was a new
discovery. Also, we visited a Boh Tea Plantation at Sungai Palas.
We explored the mountains of Mt. Brinchang where one can view the sunrise however
due to the bad weather that morning; we are not able to see anything. Alternatively, we
travel around the Mossy Forest with chilly weather and slight drastic wind (we walk with
clenching jaws!) – Definitely the highlight of the best experienced we had!
We wouldn’t miss any good foods! Strawberries, sweet potatoes (we had lots!), fried
veggies, steamed and grilled corn, we all had those. A trip to the night market
wouldn’t be neglected. Charcoal steamed boat - hot soup, good meats and
fresh veggies, everything is full and satisfying!
It was another holiday filled with adventure and extreme happiness for
us. We would always be back to this blissful place. Cameron Highland is
definitely a “TREASURE” of Malaysia!
Cheers for more discovery and adventures with Palace Vacation Club!
Stayed November 20-23 2013, travelled as a OHANA.

Bhd. No. 15, Jalan 6/118C, Desa Tun Razak, Cheras, 56000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia How time flies! And before we know it, the school holidays are here and we are busy preparing for the year-end festivities. So why not start your planning now… In this inaugural issue of Dream Vacation, we have specially included a vacation planner, aptly called the “We PLAN 4U” planner (p. 14) where you “book” your vacation plans and we “block” the rooms for you. For prudent planners, here’s an excellent road trip idea for those travelling down south (p. 01). But if jetting off to another country is your cup of tea, then check out our write-up on Spain (p. 02), the country that gives us ‘matador’, ‘flamenco’ and ‘paella’. As we continue to improve and innovate to offer uncompromising quality of service that you deserve, we look forward to bringing you more new affiliated resorts (p. 10), more events, more travel tips, and more magical experiences to smart travelers like you. Thank you for your support! Planning for the Year-end Rush “A good plan is like a road map: it shows the final destination and usually the best way to get there.” H. Stanley Judd

  • 4. DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT – FOREIGN LAND DREAM VACATION2 Visit the Golden Triangle of Art (Madrid City Centre) Take time to visit the galleries & museums that contain some of the world’s foremost artworks. Have fun at La Tomatina (Buñol, near Valencia) This annual, fun food fight festival celebrates the ripening of the tomato harvest. Get together in your worst clothes to throw tomatoes at each other! There is also music, fireworks & a paella cooking contest. Attend the Running of the Bulls (Pamplona) You’d be crazy to want to participate, but equally crazy to miss the chance of seeing it! Witness brave Spanish men queue in the streets for a glorious chance to outrun huge wild bulls. The event lasts 9 days & with many injuries – definitely not for the weak stomach. Dance at the Sonar Music Festival (Barcelona) Hailed as the forefront of modern day electronic music production in one of the hippest cities in the world! Explore Barcelona Take the opportunity to wander around this incredible city while you’re there - from the skeletal buildings of Art Nouveau architect Gaudí to the massive Camp Nou football stadium. Experience the Flamenco (Andalusia) Probably the most hypnotic dance form in Spain, the Flamenco is comprised of the Cante (song),Toque (guitar) & Baile (dance). The singing is melancholy with a lot of wailing, foot stamping & clacking of castanets. Party in the Balearic Island of Ibiza Not only is Ibiza fundamental to the creation of dance music over the last 2 decades with incredible clubs, it has amazing beach-side scenery where you can watch the sunset with a glass of sangria. Go see Pablo Picasso’s Guernica painting (Madrid) Housed in the Museo Reina Sofia within the GoldenTriangle of Art, Picasso’s huge and troubling artwork captures the anguish of that time when Spanish Nationalist Forces asked the Germans and Italians to bomb Guernica. SPAIN
  • 5. DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT – FOREIGN LAND DREAM VACATION 3 Read more at: http://www.offtoeurope.com/15-things-everyone-should-do-in-spain/ Visit the Alhambra (Granada) Spain retains many beautiful buildings from the period of Moorish occupation. This old fortress is perhaps the finest of them with exquisite decoration, courtyards & gardens. Enjoy the Costa Brava No one could resist visiting the Rugged Coast - an alternative to the crowded beaches in the south. This is a place for walking rather than sunbathing & is an area of outstanding natural beauty! Walk the Way of St. James (Santiago de Compostela) As one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Way of St. James pilgrim route is among the most meaningful walks you will ever take. Experience Cadiz (South West) As the oldest city in Western Europe, the best time to visit Cadiz is during its world famous carnival in the spring when the streets are alive with all sorts of costumed groups. Go to the Semana Santa Festival (Málaga) It’s worth seeing as they have incredible candlelit processions & Málaga is one of the most exciting places to watch the festivities. Eat tapas & drink wine Try Spain’s special tapas, small dishes of local delicacies like fried calamares, olives & cheeses. Best to wash down with a good Spanish wine like Rioja. See Mount Teide (Tenerife) This towering volcano at 3,000 metres high is Spain’s highest peak & is part of a large national park. You can even see the other Canary Islands in the distance.
  • 6. DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT – FOREIGN LAND DREAM VACATION4 Source: http://www.fodors.com/news/story_3900.html 15Customs & Etiquette in Spain every visitor should know Mind your words… 1 When addressing elderly Spaniards or those you’re not well-acquainted with, use the formal usted rather than the familiar tu. 2 Address new colleagues with the formal usted if you speak Spanish; then follow their lead in switching to the familiar tu once a working relationship has been established. 3 Learn a little of the local language by just mastering a few basic words & terms will make chatting with the locals more rewarding. 4 Spanish is not the principal language in all of Spain: the Basques speak Euskera; Catalan in Catalonia; Gallego in Galicia & Valenciano in Valencia. Local radio & television stations may broadcast in their respective languages & road signs may be printed/spray-painted over with the preferred regional language. 5 Learn at least the following basic phrases: - buenos días (hello - until 2pm) - buenas tardes (good afternoon - until 8pm) - buenas noches (hello - after dark) - por favor (please) - gracias (thank you) - adiós (goodbye) - sí (yes) - no (no) - los servicios (the toilets) - la cuenta (bill/check) - habla inglés? (do you speak English?) - no comprendo (I don't understand) 6 If your Spanish breaks down, you should have no trouble finding people who speak English in major cities & coastal resorts, but don’t count on the bus driver or the passer-by on the street. You might have better luck with people under 30. Dress to impress… 7 No swimsuits in public spaces. It’s common sense – if you’re unlikely be allowed entry in a restaurant wearing swimming attire back home, don't do it when overseas. 8 Be respectful when visiting churches. Casual dressing is fine if it's not flashy or messy. Men shall not go bare- chested anywhere other than the beach or poolside. 9 Casual-smart dressing is generally accepted in most places these days. 10 Smart dressing for business meetings is the norm in Spain. Timing is everything… 11 Most shops outside of major cities close from 2-5pm when shopkeepers go home for their main meal of the day or to take a nap.You might want to join them by taking a quick siesta after lunch in preparation for a long night out on the town. 12 Spanish office hours can be confusing - some offices stay open continuously from 9am-3pm, with a very short lunch break. Others open in the morning, break-up the day with a long lunch break of 2-3 hours & re-open at 4 or 5pm until 7 or 8pm. 13 Spaniards’ lack of punctuality has changed dramati- cally in recent years, so you’re expected to show up for meetings on time. Dining manners… 14 Dining hours are often misunderstood: lunch to the Spanish is no earlier than 1:30pm (preferably after 2pm) & not before 9pm for dinner. Dining out on the weekend can begin at 10pm or even later. Some restaurants operate a bit earlier in popular tourist areas. 15 Anti-smoking laws introduced in 2006 requiring bars & clubs to provide at least 100sqm of non-smoking section; whereas smoking isn’t allowed at all in most of the better restaurants.

  • 14. DREAM VACATION12 1 Did I order that? Check the items on your bill. Make sure it matches to what you have ordered and no extra items have been added. 2 Card or cash? Stick to cash especially at places with high chances of credit card fraud. Never let a waiter/waitress, shopkeeper, hotel staff or anyone take your card out of your sight. 3 Is that locker really locked? You might be surprised that some appear locked, but if you pull the unit away from the wall or lift it from the floor, they might be backless or even bottomless! 4 No thanks, I can carry myself. Don't let anyone carry your luggage, even if they're wearing an official-looking badge. At best, they'll expect payment; at worst they'll disappear with it, or use you as an unsuspecting courier. 5 Taxi! Whichever part of the world, dishonest taxi drivers overcharge, give lesser change or take longer routes. Research fares beforehand so you know exactly how much a trip should cost. Never allow drivers to load your luggage until you've agreed on a price. 6 Beware of pick-pockets! The best way to prevent pick-pocketing is to understand the most common tactics used by pickpockets. They can operate individually or in pairs and even in groups, employing various tactics to distract you such as posing as a beggar or a tourist and even as a concerned local pretending to be helpful. Always be on the lookout and learn more on pickpockets’ modus operandi to better protect your belongings and safety while travelling. www.wikihow.com/Pickpocket 7 Is your ticket for real? Buy only from official vendors to ensure you won't be denied entry, fined or worse -- getting arrested! 8 Missing mobile phone credit. A favourite scam of dodgy electronics shops is to sell you mobile phone credit & say you'll receive a text message confirming your top-up soon, but the message & credit never reach you. 9 Separate your sources of money. Keep at least one in a different place, preferably not on you. 10 Scan all your major documents. Scan your travel documents & email them to yourself. Or simply take a picture and keep them in your mobile phone. That way, your documents won't go missing even if your bags do. 11 Don't trust local strangers (too much). Limit how much you should trust the locals when it comes to your personal safety, money & consuming their food or drink. 12 Avoid PDAs. We mean Public Displays of Affluence (not affection). Flashing that gold jewellery or carrying a RM2,000 camera around your neck only makes you a target for thieves. 13 Some things are best learned at home. Let’s be real -- teaching yourself to ride a motorbike or jet-ski in a foreign country is probably unwise as some travel insurance policies won't cover should there be any injuries. 14 Check the fine print & certificates of instructors. If you're doing a specialist course (scuba diving) or something risky (bungee jumping), check that the operators have legitimate qualifications & a good safety record. 15 Give it up. Here’s a simple rule that people find hard to follow: give up their valuables when mugged. Just do it & walk away unharmed. • 20. DREAM VACATION18 OUR ANDALUCIAN HOLIDAY (14 – 22 February 2014) MEMBER’S HOLIDAY DIARIES Our Andalucian holiday started on the 14th February 2014 when we flew from KL to Paris on Air France at 11.40 pm, to arrive in Charles de Gaulle airport at 6.10 the following morning. At 10.30 am on the same day we flew to Malaga on Air Europa. and arrived at 1pm. Our daughter and her husband who were on their honeymoon, arrived in Malaga a day earlier. They picked us from the airport in a car rented from SIXT car rental. We checked-in at Club La Costa (CLC) World Resort in Mijas Costa without much hassle. The reception staff was very polite and was already expecting our arrival. We were very fortunate to be given two 1-bedroom apartments at the San Diego Suites. The resort is about 27 km from Malaga airport and 32 km from Malaga city centre. It was very well equipped with excellent cooking facilities (induction stove, microwave oven and electric oven), refrigerator, dishwasher and a washing machine. The induction stove proved to be very useful as we were able to prepare some home-cooked meals instead of having to eat at restaurants. An electric kettle and toaster were also provided. There was also a central heating which was very useful, as the nights could get very cold. In fact we had the heating on all the time for as long as we were in the apartment. We also discovered that the sofa in the living area could be converted into a double bed for additional guests. Each apartment has a balcony with a garden table and 4 chairs. Both apartments were facing the swimming pool and surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean green plants and hibiscus hedges. The CLC management even provided us with breakfast on our first day comprising bread, milk, butter, jam, coffee, tea and sugar. The facilities in CLC suites included an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, and a clubhouse. There is also a smaller heated outdoor swimming pool. Other facilities in CLC resort include restaurants, a convenience store and pastry shop. A tractor-drawn road train that goes round the resort every half hour is a good way to see the whole place without tiring ones feet Having a rented car to drive to places of interest was something that we couldn’t have done without. Malaga is almost equidistant from Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Gibraltar. These were places of our interest with each being about a two-hour drive from the Resort. The nearest interesting sites like Mijas and the city of Malaga were less than half an hour away from the Resort. With so many interesting sites to visit, it was a great pity indeed that we didn’t spend much time to enjoy the excellent facilities at CLC. We were just too busy every day visiting the historical remains of the 700-year Islamic (Moors) Ottoman Empire that ruled Spain from mid-8th to mid-15th Century AD. The highlights of our visit were the Nasrid Palaces in AlHambra, Granada to see the remains of the beautiful Islamic architecture in Spain, the Alcazaba fortress and museum showing the remains of the Moors in Malaga, the Mesquita which is the grandiest and most beautiful mosque built by the Moors in Cordoba which now used as Church, the Toros in Seville which is the second oldest bullfight ring in Spain and the famous rock of Gibraltar. Apart from visiting these historical places, we also had the opportunity to do some shopping. In Mijas, which we visited on the second last day of our stay in Andalucia, we had English tea with scones in a tea-house operated by an English couple. A visit to Ronda, another interesting city situated on a rocky mountainous area, an hour’s drive from Malaga, with beautiful and breathtaking cliffs was one of the highlights of our tour. Regards, Samad Solbai Member since 19/06/2001
  • 21. DREAM VACATION 19 My family and I decided to have a short gateway to Phuket to celebrate my granddaughter’s 4th birthday in February. It was quite a last minute plan, but nevertheless we managed to grab the flight tickets on 9th Feb to 14th Feb 2014 as well as booked for accommodations via Palace Vacation Club. To our surprise, we were offered to stay in a Royal lighthouse (private villa) with 3 spacious bedrooms which could accommodate the 6 of us comfortably. The villa was fully self contained with all the necessities. This has made our stay a memorable one and to this day we still talk about the memories we had during our short stay at the villa. It was an ad hoc decision to go for a short trip to cameron highland with the whole family. Luckily even though i placed the bookings within a week time the PVC staff is so accommodative and efficient. By the 2nd day I had my confirmation bookings ready and it was so convenient. I booked at equatorial hotel cameron highland. When we reached there the check-in was smooth and easy. Just show the confirmation print out you will get your key card. The apartment at the hotel is so cozy with 2 spacious rooms and a hall. The location is very strategic (next to the very famous Kea Farm). While we were there even though for a short trip we managed to go to the "pasar malam", kea farm of course, strawberry plucking which my daughter enjoyed so much. Taste a unique sets of tea at sungai palas boh tea plantation, visited the butterfly farm and ate the best steamboat ever at snack corner. Lastly we closed the trip with a nice refreshing picnic at Lata Iskandar before heading back home with all the sweet memories. My daughter said she had the best ever time on this trip. So when she's happy I'm happy :) Thank you PVC for being part of my great vacation. Puan Sharifah Shahira Wafa Member since 23/04/2013 Phuket is indeed a heavenly place to relax and distress. We visited Phi Phi Island for snorkeling and swimming, The breath-taking view og Maya Bay and the crystal clear water in Phi Phi Island, Patong Beach & all beaches will always be in our memories. My granddaughter enjoyed the most at the Phuket Fantasea dinner show. The performance was magnificent according to her. In short, we enjoyed our vacation tremendously, and it was one of the best birthday celebration my granddaughter will ever had. Thank you Palace Vacation Club for making our holiday an unforgettable one.. From Jamaliah & family Member since 01/05/2002 Resort: Royal Lighthouse Villa at Boat Lagoon
  • 22. DREAM VACATION20 MEMBER’S HOLIDAY DIARIES Tentang hotel, alhamdulillah sangat berpuas hati. .. Terima kasih Palace Vacation! En. Zamily + Pn. Suzie Member since 20/07/2008 Resort: Hotel Mutiara, Johor Bahru (2-5 Nov 2013) LEGOLAND – USS: MOST EXCITING & FUN TRIP EVER!!
  • 23. DREAM VACATION 21 Dear PVC, We were very happy with this vacation. Being married for 6 years with 2 kids, this vacation was definitely our second honeymoon after Krabi. The place was very nice and beautiful. The scenery was simply mind-blowing. We were able to spend quality time for each other and release our stress these few days. We also managed to bring back this beautiful Red Amaryllis from Borneo Highlands. We would like to thank Palace Vacation Club for giving us this free vacation. We also would like to thank the person in charge, Ms. Habibah for her effort that makes it possible for us to enjoy this great holiday. Regards, T. Menaka A/P Veerachari Member since 31/08/2012 Dear PVC, We have been members of Palace Vacation Club (PVC) for few years now. It was always a holiday trip that we looked forward each year. From Penang, up the mountains of Cameron Highlands, east coast of Kuantan and down to Johor we were able to explore because PVC is part of it. Being provided with superior accommodation for my entire family removed any anxieties and helped our holiday get off to a tremendous start. Out of all the places we’ve been, Cameron Highland is a place that made us always feel “HOME”. Cool weather paired with varieties scrumptious food who would resist with that (we don’t!). The accommodation at Equatorial Hotel was superb! We stayed in a low rise two-bedroom apartment with an English architectural style building overlooking a magnificent view of green hills (amazing!) and mountains (breathtaking!). Staffs showed great customer care and we had no troubles upon arrival. Though we had some inconvenience with the first apartment provided, they were able to assist promptly and we manage to settle on the next apartment swiftly. The room had good amenities and facilities. The balcony would always be the best part. As this is our second time in this paradise, we explore new places and sites we haven’t seen and discovered. The tranquillity place of Lavender Park was great experience. We also tried to explore the Parit Falls however as rain and dark clouds came, we didn’t manage to carry on. A picturesque of a unique coffee place – Earth House was a new discovery. Also, we visited a Boh Tea Plantation at Sungai Palas. We explored the mountains of Mt. Brinchang where one can view the sunrise however due to the bad weather that morning; we are not able to see anything. Alternatively, we travel around the Mossy Forest with chilly weather and slight drastic wind (we walk with clenching jaws!) – Definitely the highlight of the best experienced we had! We wouldn’t miss any good foods! Strawberries, sweet potatoes (we had lots!), fried veggies, steamed and grilled corn, we all had those. A trip to the night market wouldn’t be neglected. Charcoal steamed boat - hot soup, good meats and fresh veggies, everything is full and satisfying! It was another holiday filled with adventure and extreme happiness for us. We would always be back to this blissful place. Cameron Highland is definitely a “TREASURE” of Malaysia! Cheers for more discovery and adventures with Palace Vacation Club! Stayed November 20-23 2013, travelled as a OHANA. Foo Tee Haw Member since 10/08/2003
