Though everyone has a different definition on Humanism, humanism can simply be
described as a philosophical idea that emphasizes on the worth and dignity of an individual. The
term is often used to describe a cultural and literary movement that spread among many cities in
the fourteenth and fifteenth century’s. The movement involved the revival of the studies of the
ancient Greek and Latin authors and trying to decipher what they actuary meant. This time
within which humanism developed and grew is called the renaissance period, this meant rebirth.
The idea of humanism expressed confidence in the ability of humanity to exact some control
over nature or shape the society followings its needs and desires. The impact that humanism had
on Christianity during the fifteenth century is huge and far-reaching.
Though ther are different kind of humanism, christain humanisn has its uniqueness since
it contributwed to faith and culture of many nations in the world. During the era of the fifteenth
century, humanism brought uteted and they considered each other os fellow humans, for
instance, every man had his right to freedom, happiness and development of his talents and
aptitudes (Howard Spodek 2008, p56). The only centers of knowledge that existed at that time
were the temples and the churches, the humanists preached of the importance of knowledge,
culture and self-perfection. The idea that the humanists had was one of a harmonious person.
They accentuated the great importance of self-development driving it to become possible through
learning and study (Howard Spodek 2008, p56).
Humanism pushed Christians to revival and renovation. Many of the conceptions,
principles of the church and the role of man as well, were all revised. The changes, overall, were
positive and this happened for the eventual development of the Christian doctrine. The fifteenth
century forms a very important part in the history of Christianity and world history.
