2. Introduction to Munsell
 Munsell Color Theory is based on a three-dimensional model in which each
color is comprised of three attributes of hue (color itself), value
(lightness/darkness) and chroma (color saturation or brilliance).
 The Munsell Color system is set up as a numerical scale with visually uniform
steps for each of the three color attributes—in Munsell color notation, each
color has a logical and visual relationship to all other colors.

3. Munsell Tree
• The Munsell Color Tree is an
attractive, three-dimensional model
that makes seeing how colors relate
to one another fun, easy, and
informative. The model represents
Munsell's three attributes of color:
• Hue – color such as red, orange,
yellow, etc.
• Value – the lightness or darkness of
a color
• Chroma – the saturation or
brilliance of a color

4. Munsell Tree Branches
• Each branch of the color tree
represents a hue, the color itself:
• Red (R)
• Red-Purple (RP)
• Purple (P)
• Purple-Blue (PB)
• Blue (B)
• Blue-Green (BG)
• Green (G)
• Green-Yellow (GY)
• Yellow (Y)
• Yellow-Red (TR)

5. Ostwald color system
• In colorimetry, the Ostwald
color system is a color space
that was invented by the Baltic
German chemist Wilhelm
Ostwald. Associated with The
Color Harmony Manual, it
comprises a set of paint chips
representing the Ostwald color
space. There are four different
editions of the Color Harmony
Manual. Each manual is made
up of charts, with each chart
being a different color space.

6. Ostwald chart
• The Color Harmony Manual is made
up of charts of colored chips
representing a color space. The
overall shape of a chart is an
equilateral triangle made up of 28
samples. Each chart is made up of
samples of approximately the same
hue. Each chart has one sample
with the greatest purity. This
sample is the far point of the
triangle. A series of five samples
with increasing reflectance and
decreasing purity are on the upper
edge of the triangle.

7. DIN
• DIN Standard DIN 47100 regulated
the color-coding for the
identification of cores in
telecommunication cables. The
standard was withdrawn without a
replacement in November 1998,
but remains in widespread use by
cable manufacturers.
• The isolations of the several wires
in a cable are either solidly
colored in one color, or striped
lengthwise in two colors. Use of
the three-colored wires numbered
45 and up is rare.

8. CIE Color system
• The CIE color model is a color space
model created by the International
Commission on Illumination known as
the Commission Internationale de
l’Elcairage (CIE). It is also known as the
CIE XYZ color space or the CIE 1931 XYZ
color space.
• The CIE color model is a mapping system
that uses tristimulus (a combination of 3
color values that are close to
red/green/blue) values, which are
plotted on a 3D space. When these
values are combined, they can
reproduce any color that a human eye
can perceive. The CIE specification is
supposed to be able to accurately
represent every single color the human
eye can perceive.

9. NCS
• NCS – Natural Color System® is a
scientifically based color system
that allows for accurate cross-
industrial color communication
for designers and manufacturers,
retailers and customers. Since
NCS is based on how we perceive
color visually, the system allows
you to describe color on all
imaginable surfaces. This has
made the color system a global
standard for definition, quality
assurance and communication of
color. All surface colors can be
described with a NCS Notation.
