NYC restaurant actually banned photographing food, because it was interrupting the experience (flashing phones, etc.).
Once the photo or the comment is made, then it is broadcast en masse to review sites, social media (twitter, facebook, pinterest, foursquare, etc.) for all the world to read/consume.
