12. Academic History
Along with my required GCSE subjects (Maths, English
Language/Literature, Science etc.), I chose to study Art & Design
and Creative Media Production. Both subjects I did well in. I
especially enjoyed the media course as I found it quite easy
sailing. I picked up skills quite quickly and got an overall great
grade (Distinction*, Distinction*, Distinction). This led me to the
decision of pursuing this skill further and taking a Creative Media
Production course at college.
During the 3-year course of my GCSE media studies, I produced
many different products, such as Magazine Posters, Short Films,
Case Studies etc.
13. Current Study
The course I have chosen to pursue at college (Creative Media
Production and Technology). It has helped me to prepare for my
chosen courses at university as I have expanded my skills with
media software such as premier pro and photoshop which will
help me with the foundation knowledge I will need to pursue my
degree at university. The skills in which I have picked up along
the way of my first year at college include masking on premier
pro, visual effects such as realistic drop shadows on photoshop,
cut out tool and lighting effects etc.
I enjoy being creative and artistic and therefore I am happy with
my current course and want to pursue a similar subject in further
education.
14. The Future
I have thought a lot about the career path I would like to take in the
future. However, I am still willing to keep my options open as there are
many different job opportunities in the creative media field.
On the one hand, working in Film/TV is very appealing to me as I have
always appreciated cinematography and the amount of effort and
creativity that goes into film production. Studying a filmmaking course
at university would help me to open my boundaries and progress my
media skills and give me many opportunities to work in this field
successfully.
On the other hand, I would like to explore the Digital Media field and
potentially take that career path. This means that I will be studying the
culture of social media and digital communications. I have always had
a keen interest in the arts of social media and the way in which is so
heavily influences society in today's day and age and therefore working
as a social media marketer or something like that is something I am
interested in.
15. Outside College
Outside of college I have a part time job as a sales assistant
which I work most days outside of college and therefore I don’t
usually have much time for many hobbies. However, when given
the chance, I enjoy taking photos if I am in a nice setting and I
quite often take portrait photos of my family members and I
know how to use a camera correctly and toggle with lighting
effects and therefore the photos often turn out well.
Photography is something I enjoy, and I have even thought about
potentially pursuing it as a career.
My busy schedule shows that I am dedicated to my workplace
and therefore may show that I am a good, hardworking
candidate for university.
16. Conclusion
I have always wanted to attend university and I believe that it
will open my career opportunities and give me even more time
to decide which future career I will end up with. I believe that
university is the first step into having your own responsibilities
whilst also being able to socialise with new people and continue
studies in more depth.
19. Which projects have you enjoyed most
this year & why?
The project I have enjoyed the most this year was probably my
Final Major Project. This is because I felt as though I had full
creative responsibility throughout and I noticed the rewards of
hard work a lot more whilst working on this project than I had
with any prior projects. This is because the format of the whole
product/design was completely up to me and therefore seeing
the final product, after all the alterations and editing, felt
rewarding and satisfying. Overall, I liked the concept that I
created for my FMP and had a lot of fun since there were so
many aspects that needed to be thought of when designing a
perfume brand and the tv advertisement that comes along with
it.
20. Which projects have you least enjoyed
[& why]?
The project I probably least enjoyed this year has got to be the
audio soundscape project. This is because I believe that my
creative skills lie mostly in the artistic design element and
obviously when working with audio, that element doesn’t exist.
Therefore, I lacked whilst producing my soundscape as I felt
bored throughout as I was not applying the skills that I am used
to and enjoy most.
21. What is your biggest success
My biggest success of the year has been the result I got for
my FMP evaluation as it was the highest mark I had received all
year and at the start of year 1 I believed that my evaluation skills
were my biggest lack and never would've thought that by the
end of the year that would be what elevated my grade, and to
me, I would consider that a success. Now, I have noticed the
change in detail to my writing and feel a sense of
accomplishment after a large amount.
22. What has been your biggest mistake in
coursework
The biggest mistake I have made this year is my lack of effort at
the start of the year. I did not put in 100% effort and therefore
brought down my grade average for year 1. On top of this, my
punctuality was not ideal and caused a few mishaps in my
projects due to falling behind slightly and then having to spend
extra time catching up on work. I hope to fix both mistakes next
year and start the year with a fresh mindset and ensure I put in
enough effort into my college life.
23. Which skills do you think you have
developed most?
One skill that I have developed the most this year has got to be
my evaluation skill. This is because I have noticed a huge change
in my quality of writing and ability to consciously take not of my
mistakes and highlight how I can improve the quality of my
projects. I can also speak widely about a product's target
audience and the steps taken to please the audience and the
importance of having a satisfied consumer – which is incredibly
useful in the whole media field.
Another skill that I have developed the most this year is
my editing skills on Adobe Photoshop. This is because I now have
a much deeper understanding of the software and have picked
up different techniques that help me to produce an artistic
design that fits my product.
24. What area are aiming to specialise in
during Year 2?
I am aiming to specialise in photography and design moving
forward next year as these are the two skills that I want to
master in media. I see myself working in the media marketing
field (hopefully for a fashion/lifestyle brand) and therefore want
to perfect the aesthetics of different products and how to sell
and advertise that product to an audience.
Notas do Editor
