2. What happen in Commonwealth Period?
The Commonwealth Period is the 10 year transitional of the
Philippine History from 1935 to 1945 in preparation for the
independence Act or popularly known as the Tydings-Mc
Duffie Law
-an act to provide for the complete independence of the
Philippine Islands, to provide for the adaptation of a constitution
and a form of government for the islands , and for other
porpuses.
3. However, in January 2, 1942 the commonwealth has been
interrupted by the Japanese as they invaded Philippines in
during World War 2
They planned to occupy the Philippines as part of their plan for a
“Greater East Asia War”
4. Manuel L. Quezon

5. - Manuel L. Quezon and Sergio Osmeña lead the
Commonwealth Government, they went into exile in the
United States. However, Quezon died in exile due to his
tuberculosis so that Sergio Osmeña took over as a
President. Manuel L. Quezon was elected President of
the Commonwealth on September 15, 1935 but it was
formally established on November 15, 1935 and Sergio
Osmeña replace him as a President after he died due to
tuberculosis and he is the second President of the
Philippine Commonwealth and then led the country in
his initial stage of political maturation and selfless
devotion to public service of the Filipino people.

10. Reconquering Manila • February 3, 1945 – the American
soldiers together with their Filipino comrades were
within 15 miles of Manila • August 6, 1945 – Hiroshima
was bombed • August 9, 1945 – Nagasaki was bombed •
September 2, 1945 – Emperor Hirohito of Japan had
accepted the unconditional surrender offered by the
allied forces and the war in the Asia Pacific was over

11. The Japanese army established a puppet
government in Manila led by Jose P. laurel as
President then occupied second Philippine
Republic. On October 20, 1944 , the allies led
by Gen. Douglas Mc Arthur landed on leyte
island to free the Philippines from the
Japanese. Japan officially surrendered on
September 2, 1945 all the Japanese forces
then went back to their homeland as they
taste defeat.
