1. NEW DOCUMENT
➤ To start off I created a new, blank photoshop document that I
would create my sonder poster on.
2. BACKGROUND PHOTO
➤ Next I added my chosen background photograph as a new
layer in the workspace. I had previously taken some time into
deciding which image I wanted to use. I decided on an image I
had taken in the northern quarter of Manchester.
3. CROPPING AND SCALING
➤ Next I used the cropping tool from the side-bar to crop the
image down to the size I required. By holding the shift key on
the keyboard I was able to scale the image while keeping it’s
original ratio proportions.
4. BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST
➤ At this point I wanted to edit the image to make it look as good
as possible before adding any text or logos. I started this photo
editing process by changing the images brightness and
contrast. I did this by opening the brightness and contrast
panel from the adjustments section and used the slider bar to
increase the brightness and decrease the contrast.
5. HUES AND SATURATION
➤ Then I opened the hues and saturation panel from the
adjustments section and increased the saturation of the
colours in the image. I wanted to make the colours stand out
as much as possible at this stage so that the mask layer
wouldn't take all of the colour out of the image later on.
➤ For the final stage of editing the background photograph I
used the curves adjustment to lift the highlights in the image
and drop the lowlights and shadows.
➤ After finalising the look of the background photograph I moved
onto the design of the logo. For this I wanted to keep the
original logo but remove the white background.
8. REMOVING BACKGROUND COLOUR
➤ To do this I used the magic wand tool from the sidebar to
select all the white in the image and then deleted all of those
areas making the background transparent.
9. CROPPING AND SCALING
➤ After this I used the same crop tool as before to crop the
image down to the size that I required.
10. ADDING THE LOGO
➤ Then I drag and dropped the logo onto the background photo.
With the white now removed the background image could still
be seen underneath. I positioned the logo in various different
places util I decided on its final position at the top of the
11. MASK LAYER
➤ After placing the logo I decided I needed to tone down the
background image in some way so that the text I would be
adding next would be readable. I placed a rectangle over the
whole image to act as a mask layer which I then made semi-
transparent so that the background image would be visible but
duller than before.
12. IMPORTANT TEXT
➤ By going onto the sonder website I was able to find all the
important information that needed to be put on the poster. I
used the text box tool to copy the lists of bands, headline acts,
prices and dates onto the page. Once again I changed the
positioning of the text boxes multiple times before the final
13. SONDER DEFINITION
➤ Another important feature that I wanted to make sure was on
the poster was the definition of the word Sonder. I put this at
the very top of the poster above the logo.
14. FINISHING TOUCHES
➤ To finish off the poster i made sure that all of the assets were
in the correct positions and just generally that everything was
in the right place. I double checked that all the assets were
above the mask layer that I had made so that they were clear
to read. With these final stages complete the poster was
