APRIL 23RD, 2014
The Oakville Community Foundation’s vision is to make our
community stronger, and our shared quality of life better now,
and for the long term.
Our mission is to strengthen the fabric of our community
through effective management of our donors’ everlasting
gifts and provide an active leadership role within Oakville.
We are proud to say that in 2013, along with the support
of our Fundholders, we were able to issue over 400 grants
locally and throughout Ontario and outside Provinces.

THE ROLE OF THE
FOUNDATION IN OUR
COMMUNITY
PLANNED GIVING AND
OUR LEGACY CIRCLE
It’s easier than you think to make a permanent, lasting gift to support
your community: join a group of like-minded people who share a
common interest in planning for the well-being of our community
and who choose to do this through the Oakville Community Foundation
with a planned gift.
HOW TO START
Here are just a few ways you
can give tomorrow for today.
RRIF/RRSP Contributions
- designate a charity as the
beneficiary of your RRSP/RRIF
- enjoy the tax advantages
Life insurance policies
offer flexible charitable
giving options. A gift to the
Foundation can be made
through a specific bequest,
a bequest of the residue or
part of the residue of the
donor’s estate, or a bequest
subject to the life interest
of another.
Trusts can be established
to ensure that the donor’s
ultimate charitable intent
is carried out, without neglecting interim financial responsibilities or wishes
regarding dependents, and without compromising personal financial security.

THE OAKVILLE
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
IS SMART CARING
As we approach our country’s 150th birthday in 2017, Governor
General David Johnston has challenged Canadians to imagine our
country as it could be – a “smart and caring nation” that holds promise
for everyone. Community foundations across Canada are rising to that
challenge with Smart Caring Communities – a vision that will see
more communities served by community foundations and will connect
our communities by establishing Smart Caring Community initiatives
from coast to coast to coast.
At the Oakville Community
Foundation, we are excited to
be joining this national movement,
and launching our own Smart
 Caring Initiatives. We continue
to explore ways to make our
Foundation assets work smarter
and we want to thank the wide
range of smart and caring people
dedicated to operating our
successful community foundation.
These include our Board of
Directors, committee members, community advisors, staff members
and all of our Fundholders and supporters.
As we move into our 20th Anniversary year, we will be launching
the Oakville Community Foundation Smart Caring Community Fund
- in support of a multi-year pilot project focused on transforming
people’s lives. We’ll be announcing our first recipient this coming June,
along with their program details and the role it will play in transforming
lives and supporting the well-being of our community.

COMMUNITY VISIONARY
R.A.K.: A DAY, A PURPOSE
- SO MANY MEANINGS!
Random Act of Kindness Day is one chosen day where our community
comes together to celebrate being a community by engaging people
to do something deliberate, purposeful and thoughtful for someone
else. This initiative began 3 years ago as the result of discussions
with many of our local agency charities in Oakville. They were
concerned that kindness - in particular charitable giving and
volunteerism - was stagnating, and so they set out to find a way
to actively engage the community in supporting the needs of the
community - launching RAK Day.
Over the course of its short history, Random
Act of Kindness Day in Oakville has continued
to see growing participation, with many people
benefiting from the kindness and generosity
of others - and often it continues to be paid
forward after our one designated day is over.
The RAK organizing group is made up of
representatives from United Way Oakville,
Oakville Chamber of Commerce, The YMCA
Oakville, both the Public and Separate School
Boards for Halton, Oakville Hospital, Tourism
Oakville, and our Foundation team.
In 2013, over 12 groups of volunteers, aptly named “Kindness Crews,”
went out into the community and helped out. Here’s a list of some of
the things these amazing volunteers did:
Visited the Humane Society • Handed out free giveaways at Whole Foods
• Increased community spirit in downtown Oakville • Helped set up for
The Oakville Hospital Foundation gala • Helped people load their groceries
in their cars • Handed out free cupcakes • Helped people pump gas and wash
their windshields • Volunteered at Community Living Oakville • Appreciated
volunteers and staff at Acclaim Health • Brought treats to firefighters •
Volunteered at Kerr Street Ministries • Put coins in laundry machines at local
laundry mat • Held the door for shoppers at Oakville Place • Put coins in
expired parking meters • Appreciated volunteers at the hospital • Volunteered
at The May Court Club Nearly New store • Bought lunch for someone

  • 3. PLANNED GIVING AND OUR LEGACY CIRCLE It’s easier than you think to make a permanent, lasting gift to support your community: join a group of like-minded people who share a common interest in planning for the well-being of our community and who choose to do this through the Oakville Community Foundation with a planned gift. HOW TO START Here are just a few ways you can give tomorrow for today. RRIF/RRSP Contributions - designate a charity as the beneficiary of your RRSP/RRIF - enjoy the tax advantages Life insurance policies  offer flexible charitable giving options. Community foundations across Canada are rising to that challenge with Smart Caring Communities – a vision that will see more communities served by community foundations and will connect our communities by establishing Smart Caring Community initiatives from coast to coast to coast. At the Oakville Community Foundation, we are excited to be joining this national movement, and launching our own Smart Caring Initiatives. We continue to explore ways to make our Foundation assets work smarter and we want to thank the wide range of smart and caring people dedicated to operating our successful community foundation. These include our Board of Directors, committee members, community advisors, staff members and all of our Fundholders and supporters. As we move into our 20th Anniversary year, we will be launching the Oakville Community Foundation Smart Caring Community Fund - in support of a multi-year pilot project focused on transforming people’s lives. We’ll be announcing our first recipient this coming June, along with their program details and the role it will play in transforming lives and supporting the well-being of our community.

  • 7. R.A.K.: A DAY, A PURPOSE - SO MANY MEANINGS! Random Act of Kindness Day is one chosen day where our community comes together to celebrate being a community by engaging people to do something deliberate, purposeful and thoughtful for someone else. This initiative began 3 years ago as the result of discussions with many of our local agency charities in Oakville. They were concerned that kindness - in particular charitable giving and volunteerism - was stagnating, and so they set out to find a way to actively engage the community in supporting the needs of the community - launching RAK Day. Over the course of its short history, Random Act of Kindness Day in Oakville has continued to see growing participation, with many people benefiting from the kindness and generosity of others - and often it continues to be paid forward after our one designated day is over. The RAK organizing group is made up of representatives from United Way Oakville, Oakville Chamber of Commerce, The YMCA Oakville, both the Public and Separate School Boards for Halton, Oakville Hospital, Tourism Oakville, and our Foundation team. In 2013, over 12 groups of volunteers, aptly named “Kindness Crews,” went out into the community and helped out. Here’s a list of some of the things these amazing volunteers did: Visited the Humane Society • Handed out free giveaways at Whole Foods • Increased community spirit in downtown Oakville • Helped set up for The Oakville Hospital Foundation gala • Helped people load their groceries in their cars • Handed out free cupcakes • Helped people pump gas and wash their windshields • Volunteered at Community Living Oakville • Appreciated volunteers and staff at Acclaim Health • Brought treats to firefighters • Volunteered at Kerr Street Ministries • Put coins in laundry machines at local laundry mat • Held the door for shoppers at Oakville Place • Put coins in expired parking meters • Appreciated volunteers at the hospital • Volunteered at The May Court Club Nearly New store • Bought lunch for someone Your legacy starts today.
