6. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Identify a substance by its
properties;
2. Compare and contrast the chemical
and physical properties; and
3. Distinguish the intensive and
extensive property.
7. TWO TYPES OF PROPERTIES OF
MATTER
1. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
2.CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
8. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
A property that can be observed and measured
without changing the composition of the
material.
Example: Size, Texture, colors, weight and height.
9. CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
A property that can only be observed by
changing the composition of the material.
Example: ability to burn, decompose, ferment,
and react with.
10. TWO TYPES OF PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Extensive properties – it depends on the amount
of matter in the sample. : Size, mass, volume, length,
and height.
Example: Size, mass, volume, length, and height.
Intensive properties – It depends on type of
matter, not the amount of matter in the sample.
Example: Colors, texture, taste, and smell.
